A fire broke out aboard the US Navy aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln on Tuesday. Nine sailors had "minor" injures, a Navy official told Insider, with six suffering from dehydration. It's the latest incident to plague the Lincoln, which reported polluted drinking water last month. The fire started Tuesday morning while the carrier was 30 miles off shore, but it was "quickly identified and extinguished" by the crew, according to a Navy statement. The injuries suffered by the sailors were classified as "minor injuries" in the Navy statement.
It's important to get on well with your colleagues, the superyacht crew told Insider. For the crew, however, it's a rather different story: they must spend months working very long days before going to sleep in tiny cabins tucked away on the vessel. The crew cabins are hidden away at the rear of the main deck. Rijeka told Insider she's trying to save as possible to achieve her dream of opening a bar in Hawaii. GooletsThe captain's right-hand man Zoran Vidović, 39, told Insider that working on a superyacht can be very enjoyable but is often quite demanding.
The report found that the FBI and DHS continue to spend more on international terrorism, despite saying for years that domestic terrorism now poses a greater threat to Americans. The report said a change in how the FBI categorizes domestic terrorism ideologies has been a hindrance to understanding the problem. In 2017, FBI created a new category of domestic terrorism ideology called “Black Identity Extremists,” but then stopped using it. The report also criticized the FBI and DHS as having been conservative in hunting for threat intelligence posted publicly on social media. Research conducted by MIT’s Technology Review found that “users consistently migrate from milder to more extreme content” on YouTube.

The US Navy found drinking water on an aircraft carrier was polluted with bacteria and bilge water. Videos shared with Insider by a USS Abraham Lincoln sailor show murky water bubbling out of drinking fountains and sinks on September 21-22. The sailor told Insider that the water smelled and tasted "horrible" and said "you can't escape it." One sailor told Insider "it was horrible" and that at times the water the crew used to drink, bathe, and cook appeared "black." The Lincoln is the second aircraft carrier to deal with water contamination within the last few weeks.
The US Navy found last month that the water on an aircraft carrier had an "odor and cloudy appearance." The service said early last week it didn't know why the water looked and smelled strange. Those tanks were immediately isolated and secured from the potable water system," Naval Air Forces Cmdr. A sailor on the ship — and their parents — told Insider that the issue was worse than what the Navy originally revealed to the public. Navy and Marine Corps veterans told Insider that sailors on Navy flattops, aircraft carriers and amphibious assault ships, have been drinking and bathing in water contaminated by jet fuel for decades.
The crew of a US Navy aircraft carrier recently discovered jet fuel contaminating the water supply. In doing this, the crew has to physically connect the ship's potable water system to its fuel oil system through piping. Aligning the potable water system and the fuel system involves opening valves that are normally locked shut in order to allow the two systems to connect. The fuel system is supposed to be depressurized, and the potable system should be pressurized. "Normally, if you flush out your fuel oil tanks — or your fuel oil system, any part of your fuel oil system — you should be watching for this problem, because you've connected the two systems.
The Navy discovered last month that the water on the USS Abraham Lincoln looked and smelled strange. Testing found E. coli in the water, but Navy officials said it was unrelated to the odor and cloudiness. Nearly a month later, the Navy still has no idea what caused issues with the ship's water. Sailors on the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln first noticed on September 21 that the water they drink and bathe in had an "odor and cloudy appearance." The day after the unusual smell and appearance were detected, testing of the water supply revealed the presence of E. coli bacteria in a few of the ship's water tanks.
The US Navy said it recently found E. coli bacteria in the drinking water of the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln. Contaminated water on Navy ships is not unique to the Abraham Lincoln, which discovered its contaminated water shortly after another aircraft carrier did the same. "When you go to take a shower, it smells a lot like jet fuel. It tastes like jet fuel. It was terrible," recalled one veteran sailor who served on the Forrestal-class carrier USS Ranger in the 1980s.
In a 1,000-word memo sent to Shopee employees on September 15, Forrest Li — the billionaire founder, chairman, and CEO of Shopee — outlined drastic cost-cutting measures the company will be taking. "Our number one objective for the next 12-18 months is achieving self-sufficiency," Li wrote in the memo. Shopee parent Sea Limited has lost around $170 billion of market value since an October 2021 high, per Bloomberg. Shopee was founded in 2015 in seven markets across Southeast Asia and has since expanded operations into 13 markets total. In addition, the leadership team has decided that we will not take any cash compensation until the company achieves self-sufficiency.
On September 15, Shopee CEO Forrest Li told employees the company would be restricting expense policies. Layoff conversations began September 19, affecting a low-single-digit percentage of Shopee employees. Forrest Li, the company's billionaire founder, chairman, and CEO, told employees a tightened expense policy would be instituted from October 1 onwards. Li's memo came a few days before conversations began to lay off a low single-digit percentage of Shopee employees. Singapore-based Shopee was launched in seven Southeast Asia markets in 2015 and now operates in 13 countries across Southeast Asia, Latin America and Europe, including Brazil, Poland, and China.

SAN DIEGO — According to prosecutors, Ryan Sawyer Mays was a young, arrogant sailor angry about being assigned to deck duty after failing to become a Navy SEAL — and he made the Navy pay in a big way. Barthel said the Navy’s case relies largely on the account of a fellow sailor who has acknowledged changing it repeatedly. Still, he said he is speaking out because the Navy case is unjust. Navy leaders disciplined more than 20 senior officers and sailors in connection with what it described as widespread leadership failures that contributed to the disaster. The Navy spread blame across a wide range of ranks and responsibilities and directly faulted the ship’s three top officers.
Semiconductor chips are the tiny brains that power our technological world, from cars and cellphones to fighter jets and advanced missile systems. Right now China is awash in money for tech, but you need the right people and customers that trust you. Why China needs the chipsThe Chinese economy is big, but it isn't wealthy. In other words, China needs a more lucrative line of business the same way someone with credit-card debt needs a raise. The Made in China 2025 plan lays out a goal for domestically manufactured chips to meet 70% of China's semiconductor needs within three years.

North Jutland, DenmarkSouthern Europe swells with crowds during summer, and it can also get hot to the point of extremely uncomfortable in July and August. Temperatures in Seville and other spots in southern Spain recently exceeded the 110˚ Fahrenheit mark (43.3 Celsius). MontenegroLeave Croatia’s jam-packed Dubrovnik to the hordes of “Game of Thrones” hangers-on and make for less-trampled spots in neighboring Montenegro instead. It’s just 40 minutes from the popular beaches of Taormina, which are flooded with “White Lotus” fans this summer. There are beaches all around the peninsula, but if you only hit two, Mylopotamos and Fakistra on the Aegean side are the can’t-miss spots.

But she said the root of the problem is not the shipyard, or the ship itself, but “toxic leadership” on the George Washington.

President Trump's campaign ended July with $120 million, about three times more than the roughly $39 million it reported at this point in 2016. This doesn't cost Trump's campaign anything but helps get his message to voters. In addition to the Trump campaign, the Republican National Committee and several pro-Trump super PACs have planned heavy spending before Election Day. The Trump campaign ended July with more than $120 million, compared with about $99 million for Biden. Some areas of Trump campaign spending have even dropped from 2016 to 2020.
