British counterterrorism police charged seven people with violent disorder on Tuesday, after a group of pro-Palestinian demonstrators forced their way into a building owned by an Israeli defense firm in southwest England. Seven people ages 20 to 51 were charged with criminal damage and violent disorder, the police said in a statement. One man, age 22, was also charged with assault. The Crown Prosecution Service, the public prosecutor for England and Wales, said it would argue in a court hearing on Tuesday “that these offenses have a terrorist connection.”The seven individuals are accused of taking part in a raid in the early hours of Aug. 6 that targeted Elbit, an Israeli defense firm whose British subsidiaries employ around 700 people across 16 sites.

For weeks, the signs did not look good for Kamala Harris in Michigan. The leader of a well-to-do neighborhood association told me that the way Ms. Harris got nominated resembled “entrapment.” And, at a street fair, I chatted with Tamika Daniels, an activist who was working to register formerly incarcerated people to vote. Ms. Daniels expressed skepticism about Ms. Harris because the vice president had once been a prosecutor. There was no sign of such skepticism at the Harris rally near the Detroit airport last Wednesday, where roughly 15,000 excited people waited hours to see her. If the Harris campaign is unable to address this thorny issue in a way that feels like substance, then Democrats may not get the unity they’ll need to win in November.

CNN —All 62 bodies have been recovered from the site of the deadly plane crash outside São Paulo on Friday afternoon, according to the state government. The bodies of 34 men and 28 women were recovered, according to the São Paulo government, who said that only two - the pilot and co-pilot - have been identified so far. The passenger plane crashed outside São Paulo on Friday afternoon, killing everyone on board after dropping 17,000 feet in just one minute – but it is not yet clear why. The flight had left Cascavel, in the Brazilian state of Parana, and was en route to Guarulhos, in São Paulo state. I have not been the biggest fan of Kamala Harris, but to my surprise, the candidate who underwhelmed in 2020 is gone. What I took away: Kamala Harris is a different candidate than we saw four years ago. That is hard for any candidate but it is an almost impossible tightrope for a Black female candidate to walk. Americans crave the performance of authenticity as a sign that our values are in safe hands — hands just like ours. Political candidates have to negotiate ideas about identity with an audience’s expectations of who should be in power.

PARIS — Rapper Travis Scott has been arrested following an alleged fight involving a security guard and his own bodyguard at a luxury hotel in central Paris, French authorities said on Friday. "I can confirm that on August 9, 2024, police officers were called to the George V hotel and arrested the rapper nicknamed Travis Scott for assaulting a security guard," the Paris prosecutor's officer said in a statement. "The security guard had intervened to separate the rapper from his bodyguard. Scott was subsequently arrested for “violence against another person,” according to a police spokesman. He was arrested for “violence against a security guard,” the Paris prosecutor’s office said later on Friday. As his murder trial began in December 2009, Arvel Marshall made a desperate plea to his lawyer: Ask for surveillance videos of the Brooklyn street where he was accused of fatally shooting a 22-year-old man. Mr. Marshall’s lawyer made a halfhearted request for the footage. The prosecutor said initially that it did not exist, then that it was not accessible, and the judge moved the trial along. Mr. Marshall was convicted and sentenced to 25 years to life in prison. The video in question, captured from a nearby building, showed two men, neither of them Mr. Marshall, walking down a Crown Heights street toward where Moustapha Oumaria was sitting outside his home with three friends.
