Sweaty startups are blue-collar businesses, often in unglamorous or laborious fields like septic services, car washes, or lawn care. It's what your grandparents would've just called a small business, but it was a tongue-in-cheek answer to the Silicon Valley-style entrepreneurship being glorified in culture at that time. Still, some small businesses look to private equity to scale their businesses in different markets, even if that means overhauling operations in some cases. "Small businesses partner with private-equity firms because they provide access to capital and organizational support to help companies grow," Drew Maloney, the council's president and CEO, told BI. Noah Lyles, the brash American with dreams of Olympic gold in Paris, rarely cedes the spotlight. He is, after all, the biggest star in what historically has been track and field’s most high-profile event, the men’s 100-meter dash. The men’s 100 might not even be the premier event in the sport anymore. The men’s 100 is steeped in history. “I think it was the worst pressure you could ever be put under,” British former sprinter Allan Wells, who won 100m gold at the 1980 Moscow Olympics, told CNN Sport. “You run through it in your head thousands of times – the start, the gun going off,” Wells added. “It was the worst feeling you could ever have but still be in control of what you were hoping to achieve,” said Wells, one of only three British sprinters to win 100m gold at the Olympics. The legendary Bolt, winner of three consecutive 100m gold medal between 2008 and 2016, said that he would try not to overthink things. What’s Uniting, and Dividing, Native Voters in ArizonaNative American voters were key to helping Democrats clinch Arizona in 2020. But in this election, many Native voters say they feel exhausted, disappointed and torn about how to vote. But overall it was frustration and anxiety that we heard as we talked with more than four dozen voters around Phoenix and on the Navajo Nation, the country’s largest reservation, about their concerns. Many voters felt like they had been left out of the state’s growing economy, with unemployment for Native Americans almost double the national average. Most of the voters we spoke to said no, but some were willing to give him another shot.

But Lyles is aiming to do the opposite of cramming his listed 5-foot-10 frame and 6-foot-9 personality into a traditional box. You have all these other athletes as stars, rock stars, popular wherever they go. Still, Noahstradamus predicted he’d win gold in both the 100 and the 200 in Paris. Shyamalan's biggest cinematic failure was "The Last Airbender," an adaptation of a beloved animated series. Together, with Katara (Nicola Peltz Beckham) and Sokka (Jackson Rathbone), Aang fends off enemies, including Prince Zuko (Dev Patel), seeking to control and harness his powers. While the film's source material is generally considered one of the best animated series of the 2000s, M. Night Shyamalan's adaptation was derided as a boring, slow-moving mess that woefully underutilized Patel, a talented performer who had catapulted to stardom two years earlier with "Slumdog Millionaire." "It is incredible how awful the once feted director M. Night Shyamalan has become and how he is still allowed to make big-budget films," wrote The Guardian's Peter Bradshaw. "I didn't think it was possible for him to make something worse than his 'Lady in the Water' or 'The Happening.'

Tokyo Reuters —The Japanese government ordered Toyota Motor on Wednesday to make “drastic reforms” after discovering new violations in the automaker’s vehicle certification procedures. In a so-called corrective order, the Transport Ministry said on-site inspections had uncovered widespread, intentional misconduct and irregularities in seven additional models that had not been previously disclosed. Toyota and four other vehicle makers admitted in June they had submitted either flawed or manipulated data when applying for certification of vehicles. Toyota said it was planning to resume production of these models from the beginning of September after the Transport Ministry confirmed they met compliance requirements. The ministry said six of the seven additional Toyota models with irregularities were also certified in other countries, and it had alerted overseas authorities about the issues.

The Basic Income Guaranteed: Los Angeles Economic Assistance Pilot, or BIG:LEAP, gave over 3,200 households $1,000 in monthly no-strings-attached cash payments for 12 months starting in January 2022. BIG:LEAP compared the outcomes of households receiving cash payments to nearly 5,000 households with similar incomes and family situations in the control group. In the last six months, participants were more likely to establish proximate safety and work toward protecting themselves in the future. Overall, it stands in contrast to what some critics of basic income argue, including that cash payments majorly reduce employment or don't prepare participants for the future. Housing cost burdens decreased among all study participants.

Paris CNN —Days before taking part in the Paris Olympics, Tom Daley already felt like he had won a gold medal, such was his joy at having his kids at the competition with him. On Monday, the British diver got his hands on an actual medal, too, winning silver alongside partner Noah Williams in the men’s synchronized 10-meter platform. That marked the fourth medal of Daley’s long Olympic career, dating all the way back to the Beijing Games in 2008 when he competed as a fresh-faced 14-year-old. “It’s the happiest I’ve been in diving in all these years because diving wasn’t necessarily my top priority,” he told reporters. The silver medal adds to the gold and two bronzes that Daley already owns, but the 30-year-old has many titles besides Olympic medal winner.

The Olympics are always about the athletes, and as usual the focus this year will be on the brightest ones: Simone Biles, Katie Ledecky, Noah Lyles, Novak Djokovic, LeBron James.
