Afterward his visit, Trump Jr. told reporters that the list of legal cases facing the former president will ultimately boosts his political cause. Trump has said he expects to win Iowa big as he defies the typical strategy of lowering expectations. Ron DeSantis, who is campaigning aggressively in Iowa, has criticized Trump for skipping the series of Republican presidential debates and campaigning only before large audiences. “In a time of war, and great heartache and trial, criticizing the leadership of our strongest Middle Eastern ally?” Brown said. “This guy was in the middle of watching moms and dads weeping over their little babies who had just been killed.”

Former U.S. President Donald Trump attends the Trump Organization civil fraud trial, in New York State Supreme Court in the Manhattan borough of New York City, October 25, 2023. Donald Trump is set to testify Nov. 6 at his New York civil fraud trial, following his three eldest children to the witness stand in a case that threatens to disrupt their family's real estate empire, state lawyers said Friday. It was already expected that the former president and sons Donald Jr. and Eric would testify. The case could strip Trump of some of his corporate holdings and marquee properties such as Trump Tower. In a surprise preview, Donald Trump ended up briefly testifying Wednesday to answer Engoron's questions about whether an out-of-court comment was aimed at his law clerk.

NEW YORK (AP) — Days after former President Donald Trump got a taste of the witness stand, his New York civil business fraud trial is turning to the question of whether his daughter Ivanka will have to testify, too. Ivanka Trump has been dismissed from the case, and lawyers for her family and its business contend that she shouldn't have to take the stand. It's unclear how soon Judge Arthur Engoron will decide, or when Ivanka Trump would testify if ordered to do so. Ivanka Trump's lawyer argued in court papers that it's unreasonable to make her take the stand. Ivanka Trump announced in January 2017, ahead of her father's inauguration, that she was stepping away from her Trump Organization job.

New York (CNN) — Ivanka Trump must testify at her father’s New York civil fraud trial, the judge overseeing the case ruled on Friday. Ivanka Trump’s attorney had argued that she should not be forced to appear after an appellate court removed her as a defendant in the case. The judge also said Ivanka Trump should have submitted an affidavit asserting that she does not live or work in the state presently. Ivanka Trump was still identified by the New York attorney general’s office as a potential witness they could call in the case. Another Trump attorney, Cliff Robert, said Eric Trump is willing to be the corporate representative for the Trump Organization because he’s going to be testifying at trial anyway.

The AG's office contended that Ivanka Trump, a former White House official, still has information important to their case. Ivanka Trump's siblings Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump and their father are all expected to testify in the case and have been listed as witnesses by both the AG and the defense. The AG is suing Trump for allegedly inflating his assets in financial statements to secure more cost-effective loans and insurance policies.

NEW YORK (AP) — Donald Trump isn’t used to constraints. Trump is not only a former president, but also the leading candidate for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. Just days ago, he was fined $5,000 for violating the same gag order, which Engoron imposed after Trump targeted his principal law clerk on social media. Indeed, things are likely to get much more complicated for Trump in the coming months as his four criminal trials get underway. New York court officials have beefed up security for judges and court personnel involved in Trump matters in the wake of the threats.

Former U.S. President Donald Trump attends the Trump Organization civil fraud trial, in New York State Supreme Court in the Manhattan borough of New York City, U.S., October 25, 2023. In that case, Trump is prohibited from publicly targeting Smith or potential witnesses, both of whom he has frequently referenced online and on the campaign trail. "He is a judge that found me GUILTY before the trial even started," Trump said of Engoron in his social media screed Thursday. Engoron fined Trump $5,000 in that instance and warned him that future violations would yield more severe sanctions, potentially including imprisonment. Engoron asked Trump if he would like to be on the witness stand. Trump didn’t hesitate, pushing back his seat at the defense table instantly to stand and walk into the witness box. Once Trump was on the stand, Engoron put on his lawyer hat and launched into a calm interrogation of the former president, reading back what Trump had told reporters outside the courtroom only hours earlier. “You and Cohen,” Trump said. “We won this trial,” Trump said before leaving the hallway.

New York CNN —An apparent backtrack by Donald Trump’s ex-lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen threw the New York civil fraud trial into more chaos Wednesday afternoon. But after lunch, Cliff Robert, another Trump attorney, pressed Cohen further on his congressional testimony, and Cohen had a different response, saying that the testimony was not false. “The witness just admitted that we won the trial,” Trump told reporters in the hallway. “And the judge should end this trial immediately.”The New York attorney general’s lawyers asked Cohen in follow up questions to clarify his response. New York Attorney General Letitia James downplayed Cohen’s significance to her case against Trump in comments to reporters at the conclusion of Cohen’s two-day testimony.

REUTERS/Dado Ruvic/Illustration/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsNEW YORK, Oct 24 (Reuters) - Crypto lender Genesis Global said on Tuesday a New York civil fraud lawsuit could lead to a bankruptcy liquidation that does not resolve its claims against parent company Digital Currency Group (DCG). Rather than await the outcome of the lawsuit, Genesis intends to propose a "no deal" bankruptcy plan to distribute available crypto assets to customers and set up a process to preserve litigation claims against DCG and others, Genesis attorney Sean O'Neal said at a court hearing in New York. "It's not an easy decision, but it is an obvious decision," he told U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Sean Lane. Genesis believes creditors would be better off under a bankruptcy plan that includes a DCG settlement, but the company is running out of time to finalize a plan and send it to creditors for a vote, O'Neal said. Genesis Global filed for bankruptcy in January after the collapse of key counterparties including FTX caused it to freeze customer redemptions in November 2022.

With Trump sitting feet away, Trump’s one-time lawyer and fixer described how he manipulated Trump’s financial statements – “reverse-engineering” them to hit an arbitrary net worth. We’re not worried at all about his testimony,” Trump said during a lunch break. The tense questioning is going to continue into Wednesday, as Habba hadn’t even started on the substance of Cohen’s testimony in the civil fraud trial. In the July 2014 letter submitting a bid to buy the Bills, Trump claimed his net worth was $8 billion. Before Engoron’s ruling, the state attorneys and Trump’s lawyers clashed over Michael Cohen’s testimony about the letter.

The judge in Donald Trump's New York civil fraud trial had threatened 'possible imprisonment' over Trump's violation of a gag order. The offending Trump post attacked the judge's law clerk and had remained on his campaign website after Trump removed it from social media. The fine is Trump's penalty for violating an October 3 gag order banning him from attacks on the judge's legal staff online or in spoken statements. But the judge asked Trump's attorneys "why this blatant violation of the gag order should not result in serious financial penalties holding the defendant in contempt and possible imprisonment."

CNN —Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday decried the gag order issued on him by the federal judge overseeing his federal 2020 election subversion case, claiming she “took away my right to speak.”“We’re being railroaded. I’m a candidate that’s running for office and I’m not allowed to speak,” Trump said, referring to the partial gag order issued Monday by US District Judge Tanya Chutkan. The gag order restricts Trump’s ability to publicly target court personnel, potential witnesses or special counsel Jack Smith and his staff. “This is not about whether I like the language Mr. Trump uses,” Chutkan said in court Monday as she announced the order. Tuesday’s proceedings in the New York civil fraud case will include more testimony from Donna Kidder, the Trump Organization’s assistant controller.

“This is not about whether I like the language Mr. Trump uses,” Judge Tanya Chutkan said. Trump will appeal Chutkan’s order, he said in a post on his social media website Truth Social. In a pretrial court filing, James’ office estimated that Trump exaggerated his wealth by as much as $3.6 billion. They've also called accountants Donald Bender and Camron Harris, whose firms Trump hired to prepare his financial statements. A retired Deutsche Bank official testified the financial statements were key to Trump securing hundreds of millions of dollars in loans. Weisselberg acknowledged that information in Trump’s financial statements wasn’t always accurate, such as valuing his penthouse based on the wrong size. In a decision last month, Engoron resolved the lawsuit's top claim, ruling that Trump committed years of fraud by inflating the value of assets in his financial statements.

NEW YORK (AP) — Donald Trump will back in court next week for his New York civil fraud trial, a person familiar with the former president’s plans told The Associated Press on Thursday, setting up a potential face-to-face showdown with fixer-turned-foe Michael Cohen, who is expected to testify. Trump is expected to attend the non-jury trial Tuesday through Thursday next week, according to the person who confirmed the plans, which were first reported by news website The Messenger. Outside, Trump decried the civil trial a “sham,” a “scam,” and “a continuation of the single greatest witch hunt of all time.” His campaign, meanwhile, attempted to capitalize with fundraising appeals tied to the proceedings. Trump isn’t required to be in court for the civil trial until he is called to testify in the few weeks. The civil trial, which doesn't have a jury because one is not required under the law, concerns allegations of conspiracy, insurance fraud and falsifying business records.

For 2 days, Deutsche Banks' in-house Trump credit reports flashed on screens at his NY fraud trial. For a second day on Thursday, a former Deutsche Bank executive sat on the witness stand as years of his firm's confidential Trump "credit reports" flashed across two big screens. Trump's longtime finance chief, Allen Weisselberg, acknowledged in testimony Tuesday that information in the financial statements wasn't always accurate. The disclaimers say, among other things, that the financial statements aren't audited and that others “might reach different conclusions” about Trump's financial position if they had more information. It’s the first time a bank official has testified in court about the impact Trump’s financial statements had on his ability to obtain loans. Haigh said he reviewed Trump’s financial statements before approving the loans and, at the time, had no reason to doubt their validity. “I assumed that the representations of the assets and liabilities were broadly accurate," Haigh said of Trump’s financial statements.
