The national household median income grew by about 4% between 2022 and 2023, according to the latest Census Bureau Current Population Survey estimates. That may not seem like much, but it's the first significant annual increase Americans have seen since 2019, the Bureau reports. From 2018 to 2019, the median household income nationally grew about 7%. The median household income there was $81,740 in 2023, up from $69,850 in 2022, according to Census Bureau data. That's $11,890 more, or an increase of 17%.

The potential debate would take place on Oct. 23 and be hosted by CNN, Harris campaign chair Jennifer O’Malley Dillon said in a statement. “The American people deserve another opportunity to see Vice President Kamala Harris and Donald Trump debate before they cast their ballots,” O’Malley Dillon said, adding, “Donald Trump should have no problem agreeing to this debate. The Federal Bureau of Investigation boarded a vessel managed by the same company whose cargo ship caused the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge, according to a statement published Saturday. NBC News has reached out to the owner of the vessel Grace Ocean Private Limited, and its operator, Synergy Marine Group for comment. NBC News has also reached out to the U.S. Attorney's Office in Maryland and U.S. Coast Guard for comment. A spokesperson for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency would not comment further on the matter. Six construction workers died when the bridge went crumbling down into the Patapsco River.

New Zealand pilot Phillip Mehrtens has been freed more than 19 months in Indonesia’s Papua, authorities said on Saturday. Indonesia’s Metro TV showed him tearfully speaking to his family by phone. New Zealand Foreign Minister Winston Peters said, “We are pleased and relieved to confirm that Phillip Mehrtens is safe and well and has been able to talk with his family. This news must be an enormous relief for his friends and loved ones.”A range of New Zealand government agencies had been working with Indonesian authorities and others towards securing Mehrtens’ release, Peters said in a statement. Another New Zealand pilot, Glen Malcolm Conning, was killed by separatist rebels in Papua in August after landing his helicopter in a remote area, authorities said at the time.

The U.S. Commerce Department is expected on Monday to propose prohibiting Chinese software and hardware in connected and autonomous vehicles on U.S. roads due to national security concerns, sources told Reuters. The Biden administration has raised serious concerns about the collection of data by Chinese companies on U.S. drivers and infrastructure as well as the potential foreign manipulation of connected vehicles. The proposed regulation would ban the import and sale of vehicles from China with key communications or automated driving system software or hardware. The department plans to give the public 30 days to comment before any finalization of the rules, the sources said, adding that the department plans to propose making the prohibitions on software effective in the 2027 model year and the prohibitions on hardware would take effect in January 2029. The Commerce Department declined to comment on Saturday.
