Mike Pompeo has launched digital ads through his PAC in early voting presidential primary states. Pompeo has said a Trump presidential bid alone would not keep him out of the race. Pompeo has said a Trump 2024 presidential bid would not alone keep him from entering the race. He said he'd vote for Trump with "no hesitation" if Trump were to win the 2024 GOP presidential nomination. To date, none have formally announced 2024 presidential bids.

Crop Watch corn fields were harvested last week: Nebraska and eastern Iowa. The eastern Iowa corn finished at 4.25, down a quarter-point from earlier predictions and a half-point below last year. The Nebraska corn is irrigated this year, but the producer would score his dryland corn yield around 1.5. Change Research conducted the online survey of 715 adult Black women voters who were recruited via web and text message. The majority of Black women who responded felt they are “under-represented,” or that “more representation” is needed. Black women represent 53% of Black eligible voters, slightly higher than all eligible voters (51%) in the country. Many gave mixed answers, expressing both excitement and optimism about the advances Black women have made and their power, as well as frustration about the state of the country and how Black women are treated. There are currently no Black women in the Senate after former California Sen. Kamala Harris won the vice presidency.

President Biden’s plan would forgive up to $20,000 of student debt for borrowers making under $125,000, or $250,000 for a married couple. Attorneys for the Biden administration and states challenging the president’s student-debt cancellation plan squared off at a federal court hearing Wednesday that left the fate of the loan forgiveness in limbo. The roughly two-hour hearing in a Missouri federal court came in a case brought by Republican-elected leaders in six states—Missouri, Nebraska, Arkansas, South Carolina, Kansas and Iowa—who are seeking to stop the administration’s effort to write off hundreds of billions of dollars in student debt. Those states are seeking a preliminary injunction that would block the administration from moving forward.

Since the program began, more than 106 people have moved to Quincy, according to city data. Altogether, nearly 60% of these newcomers found jobs in industries that drive Quincy's economy, such as manufacturing, healthcare, and education. Many programs launched in cities like Quincy, which offer newcomers a lower cost of living compared to major metropolises. The couple were approved for the relocation program "very quickly," Seguette said. The Great River Economic Development Foundation, a nonprofit business organization that serves all of Illinois' Adams County— which includes Quincy — is also advertising the relocation program under its "Quincy's Calling" campaign.

And sports gambling, which is now legal in nearly half the US, is emerging as a market opportunity for brands and broadcasters alike. Legalized sports gambling in the US will generate $2.1 billion in revenues this year. It also tallies states with active sports gambling legislation as well as those with no legislation or dead legislation. As of May 2021, sports gambling was legal and active in 21 states plus the District of Columbia. In addition, MGM Resorts International projects that sports gambling will generate $13.5 billion by 2025, with 38 US states participating by that time.

Researchers focused on 10 categories related to voting, including registration, inconvenience, early voting, polling hours and absentee voting. The state also stopped using special voting deputies, officials whose tasks had sometimes included conducting voter registration drives, according to the study. To assess the voting laws passed after the 2020 election, this year’s Cost of Voting Index study added new categories and scoring. While the political debate surrounding new election laws has centered on ballots and the voting process, the Cost of Voting Index also gives heavy weight to the ease of voter registration. States rank higher in the index if they allow voter registration drives, provide automatic voter registration, offer same-day registration and maintain longer periods in which to register.

Now, in response to the 1619 Project and its examination of slavery, Texas leaders have created an alternative project that highlights their state’s contributions. Greg Abbott approved a 15-page draft of a document titled the Texas 1836 Project, which is named for the year that Texas declared its independence from Mexico. Nikole Hannah-Jones, creator of the 1619 Project, said the Texas project was a tactic to limit the discussion of slavery. In addition to approving the Texas 1836 Project, in June 2021 Abbott signed a critical race theory bill limiting the teaching of race relations in schools.
