We’re having an incredible year.”Red Bull team principal Christian Horner and Max Verstappen celebrate on the podium. McLaren's Lando Norris and Australian rookie Oscar Piastri, on a grand prix podium for the first time, finished second and third. The constructors' title was Red Bull's sixth since they entered the sport in 2005 and they did it at a circuit owned by engine partner Honda. "Max, that was absolutely fantastic," said team boss Christian Horner over the radio in congratulating Verstappen on a 48th career win and Red Bull's 15th of the season. Verstappen defended against the McLarens at the start, with Norris seizing the opportunity to pass Piastri and slot into second place. His final retirement ended Red Bull's 100% finishing record for the season.

Opinion | What Thoreau Heard in the Song of the Crickets
  + stars: | 2023-09-23 | by ( Lewis Hyde | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +3 min
It all seems quite hurried, the way each season must fall forward into the next until the final freeze. “Walden” opens with him asking his neighbors whether their condition “cannot be improved” and follows up with considerable advice. Spring, summer, fall and winter — our seasons are spun into being by the earth circling the sun; the earth herself, however, is not seasonal. Taking that larger view allows Thoreau, in the second part of his fable, to reframe the cricket’s song as an “earth song,” a reminder not of life’s brevity but of eternal return. Of having no “trivial and hurried pursuits.” Of having “your engagements so few, your attention so free, your existence so mundane” that you can always hear their song.

Wolff says F1 risks disarray if Massa succeeds in title bid

Sept 19 (Reuters) - Formula One risks disarray in the unlikely event of Felipe Massa winning a threatened legal claim for the 2008 world championship, according to Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff. The Brazilian lost that title by a point to Britain's Lewis Hamilton, then at McLaren and now at Mercedes and a seven-time world champion. "I don't think he has a case, to be honest," Wolff told reporters at the latest edition of the Singapore Grand Prix last weekend. "For me this is like watching a telenovela or soap opera playing out in front of me," added the Austrian. Wolff had said earlier that Massa's case was sure to set a precedent and Mercedes were watching "with curiosity".

"We nailed the race," said Sainz after his second career win for the Italian team and first since Silverstone last year. The Spaniard eked out his hard tyres for 42 laps, winning at the slowest possible speed, for Ferrari's first victory since Charles Leclerc triumphed in Austria in July last year. No team has ever won every race in a season of more than 10 rounds but Red Bull had looked capable of doing so until Singapore struck. Mercedes trimmed Red Bull's lead in the constructors' standings to 308 points, keeping them waiting at least another weekend for the title. Verstappen, who started on the hard tyres, moved up to second with Perez fourth but they were soon overhauled and plunged down the field after stopping under normal conditions.

CNN —It has been a while since Red Bull failed to win a Formula One race so the Singapore Grand Prix gave fans some unexpected variety when Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz secured victory in Sunday’s night race. Such has been Red Bull’s dominance, the last time one of their drivers failed to win a race was in November 2022, when Mercedes’ George Russell won the Brazilian Grand Prix. Red Bull’s qualifying struggles opened the door for others on Sunday and it was Sainz who capitalized, claiming victory from pole position to end Red Bull’s hopes of winning every race this year. McLaren’s Lando Norris was second, while Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton was third, finishing over a second behind the Spaniard who celebrated his second win for Ferrari. “We nailed the race,” Sainz told reporters.

Marko, 80, apologised last week after referring to Perez as a "South American" who was less focused than dominant Red Bull team mate Max Verstappen or the team's now-retired champion Sebastian Vettel. "We can confirm that Helmut Marko has received a written warning and been reminded of his responsibilities as a public figure in motor sport in line with the FIA Code of Ethics," said an FIA spokesman at the Singapore Grand Prix. Perez said on Thursday he had accepted a personal apology from Marko, whose comments continued to provoke a strong reaction in the paddock. It was not the first time Marko had referred to Perez as a South American, although the Mexican comes from Guadalajara which is geographically in North America. "I'm Italian so I know that sometimes we have been facing the same comments," said Alfa Romeo's Alessandro Alunni Bravi.

The 80-year-old Austrian later apologized for his remarks, and Pérez, speaking ahead of this weekend’s Singapore Grand Prix, said that he had also received a personal apology. “It’s completely unacceptable what he said,” Mercedes driver Hamilton, who has long spoken out against racial discrimination in Formula One, told Sky Sports when asked about Marko’s comments. “I think it just highlights firstly the work that still needs to be done. When you have a personal relationship with someone, I think it’s a feeling you’re going to have.”CNN has contacted Red Bull for comment. Verstappen is aiming to win a record-extending 11th consecutive race in Singapore on Sunday, though he said this week that he doesn’t think Red Bull is as competitive on street circuits compared to other tracks.

Mercedes watching Massa case with interest, says Wolff
  + stars: | 2023-09-15 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
Former Ferrari driver Massa lost that title by a point to Lewis Hamilton, now at Mercedes and a seven-time world champion. The Brazilian, 42, says an alleged "conspiracy" denied him the title because the sport's leaders knew the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix was manipulated but took no action until a year later. Wolff suggested that outcome could also be challenged if Massa were to succeed with his case. "The FIA commented on the 2021 race with a clear statement so that's why we are looking at it with interest," he said. The governing FIA said in March 2022 after an enquiry that "the results of the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix and the FIA Formula One World Championship are valid, final and cannot now be changed."

SINGAPORE, Sept 14 (Reuters) - Lewis Hamilton slammed Red Bull motorsport adviser Helmut Marko on Thursday for "completely unacceptable" comments blaming Mexican Formula One driver Sergio Perez's fluctuating form on his ethnicity. Perez told reporters separately at the Singapore Grand Prix that he had accepted a personal apology from the 80-year-old Austrian, an influential member of his dominant Formula One team's leadership. "I got an apology from him, a direct apology, which to me was the most important one," Perez told reporters. That to me is what matters," added the 33-year-old, who joined Red Bull in 2021 and has won two races so far this season.
