CNN —The iconic puffy white suits that astronauts have donned for decades as they step outside the International Space Station are rapidly aging — but NASA is now without concrete plans to replace them. Astronauts currently wear spacesuits — called Extravehicular Activity, or EVA, suits — designed more than 40 years ago when conducting spacewalks. Collins Aerospace’s Next-Gen spacesuit, intended for use at the International Space Station, is seen during the design process. NASA plans to retire the space station sometime within the next several years. But Roscosmos, the Russian space agency, has only guaranteed its participation through “at least 2028.”

CNN —A posted sign in a kitchen reads “Every Second Counts,” but “The Bear” is clearly in no hurry during its third season, proceeding at the slow-cooked pace of a show simmered in accolades and Emmys. The latest season’s first episode nicely sets the table for the nine episodes to come, playing almost like a visual poem while reintroducing the characters. Ricky Staffieri, Jeremy Allen White and Matty Matheson in "The Bear." What “The Bear” has lost is the element of surprise that greeted its arrival. “The Bear” launched its third season June 26 on Hulu.

It would latch onto the International Space Station — a nearly 1 million-pound structure roughly the size of a football field — and guide the craft as it plunges out of Earth’s orbit. The federal agency operates the International Space Station alongside Roscosmos, the Russian space agency, which controls a key wing of the station and propulsion modules. The Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, or JAXA, the European Space Agency and the Canadian Space Agency also play roles in its operations. But the space agency stipulated that it would only require that the vehicle be ready by 2029. In the news release, NASA noted that it is committed to continuing space station operations through 2030.

NASA officials called off the spacewalk because of a water leak in the cooling unit of one of the astronauts’ spacesuits. The leak, which affected the suit donned by NASA astronaut Tracy Dyson, sprang up just after the suits were transferred to battery power just before they exited the space station. Today's spacewalk with @NASA_Astronauts Tracy C. Dyson and Mike Barratt has been cancelled due to a spacesuit cooling unit water leak. The delayed spacewalk is only the latest in a string of setbacks around operations on the International Space Station in recent weeks. The Starliner spacecraft has been on its first crewed test flight to the space station.

However, I was raised in a household where it was deeply ingrained that we were to be generous and help others at all costs. While I do want to help my family, this messaging isn't conducive to tucking funds away for Future Me and putting my own financial needs and goals top of mind. By taking care of your financial needs, you'll be in a much better place to care for your loved ones. Depending on your situation, you not only need to know your wants and needs, but you also might need to know your family's wants and needs. If you want help with your financial situation and juggling your needs and your family's needs, consider working with a financial advisor.

Spaceflight veterans Suni Williams and Butch Wilmore arrived at the space station aboard the Starliner on June 6. It’s not uncommon for astronauts to unexpectedly extend their stay aboard the space station — for days, weeks or even months. But the situation makes for a moment of uncertainty and embarrassment that joins a long list of similar blunders by the Boeing Starliner program, which is already years behind schedule. The Starliner spacecraft on NASA's Boeing Crew Flight Test is pictured docked to the Harmony module's forward port on June 13 as the International Space Station orbited 262 miles above Egypt's Mediterranean coast. The first Starliner test mission, flown without crew in late 2019, was riddled with missteps.

SINGAPORE — The ornate, colorful "shophouses" that line the streets in some old neighborhoods of Singapore are not what immediately comes to mind when people think of the city-state. In a country where land is scarce and public housing can cost more than a million, these two- or three-story shophouses can cost tens of millions. Shophouses are colonial-era buildings — with some built as early as the 1840s — that are under a government conservation program. From Jack Ma's wife to Hong Kong superstar Jackie Chan, as well as Spanish tycoon Ricardo Portabella Peralta, the rich and famous are reportedly among the buyers of Singapore's shophouses. Renowned Bridgewater founder Ray Dalio was also recently identified as a buyer of two shophouses along Singapore's Club Street.

This article is part of "My Financial Life," a series helping people live and spend better. This as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with Prisca Benson, a 34-year-old writer for the blog Our Green Life. Last year my husband's work slowed down; he basically worked the equivalent of about five or six months out of the year. It's a testament to intentional spending in the long term. Because this could be literally devastating — if you were living paycheck to paycheck, a loss of 25%, 30%, 40% of your income would decimate you.

Read previewBird flu is flying wild, and it has many infectious disease experts more worried now than ever. The H5N1 avian influenza virus has killed tens of millions of birds across the planet and more than 40,000 sea lions and seals. Most people seem to have very little chance, if any, of catching H5N1 avian influenza right now. Jim Vondruska/ReutersBut infectious disease experts are increasingly concerned that the H5N1 virus could make a sustained jump into humans and start spreading among us. This virus is a leading candidate for the next pandemic, and four developments in the past month have experts worried.

CNN —USA Basketball’s decision to omit Caitlin Clark from the Olympic roster was initially met with some shock. However, USA Basketball has made a “terrible decision,” according to CNN Sport analyst Christine Brennan, by omitting a phenomenon like Clark from the roster. Breanna Stewart, a two-time WNBA champion, Brittney Griner, a nine-time All Star and A’ja Wilson, a two-time MVP, have all represented Team USA at an Olympic Games before. “She’s the biggest thing in sports, not just women’s basketball in the United States,” Brennan said of why Clark should be included. With or without Clark, Team USA is the overwhelming favorite to win gold in Paris and continue its unbeaten Olympic record stretching back to 1992.

Fanatics wants to expand the sports trading card industry. Now it's aiming to meet high-end collectors through a new partnership with Sotheby's that will create a collection of auctions for trading cards valued at more than $100,000. Fanatics has quickly moved into the trading card space, acquiring Topps in 2022 and signing several exclusive card licensing deals across professional leagues, including the NBA, NFL and MLB. "It's also an opportunity to really elevate sports trading cards, and create these moments with some of the most important and prestigious cards." Sotheby's has increasingly leaned into sports, something that Brahm Wachter, Sotheby's head of Modern Collectables, said is one of the auction house's fastest-growing categories.

CNN —SpaceX’s Starship, the most powerful launch vehicle ever built has lifted off on its fourth flight test on Thursday. The flight test comes two days after the Federal Aviation Administration, which licenses commercial rocket launches, gave SpaceX its approval. “The fourth flight of Starship will aim to bring us closer to the rapidly reusable future on the horizon,” according to SpaceX. After the explosive first and second Starship test flights, the company immediately sought to frame these mishaps as successes. But both the Starship spacecraft and booster made it farther into flight than the two previous tests in 2023.

“War” by Sebastian Junger, “End Times” by Peter Turchin and “The Unwinding,” the fabulous book by illustrator/writer Jackie Morris. No one should be surprised by a writer’s library. We all read well beyond the literary forms for which we are known. However, a friend was scanning my shelves and asked, “Why do you have that book on cocaine?” Dominic Streatfeild’s “Cocaine: An Unauthorized Biography” is a terrific book — I read it for background research. Sometimes my mother would comment, “I think that book will mean more to you when you’re older, love.”

Boeing’s Starliner sits on the launchpad at sunset, at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida, on Friday, May 31. The entire stack, including the rocket and spacecraft, was rolled back from the launchpad for testing and repairs. Several issues also cropped up during the June 1 launch attempt, which was called with less than four minutes left on the countdown clock prior to liftoff. But moments before liftoff, the ground launch sequencer — the computer that tells the rocket to launch — triggered an automatic hold that prevented the launch. The United Launch Alliance team investigated the issue and replaced the computer over the weekend, and deemed Starliner ready to fly once more.
