Florida Governor Ron DeSantis dropped out of the GOP presidential race on Sunday. The one-time rival to Trump used a purported Winston Churchill quote in his announcement video. According to the International Churchill Society, the quote is fake. Ron DeSantis ended his 2024 presidential campaign on Sunday and endorsed former President Donald Trump. Much like his disappointing campaign itself, arguably one of the worst in history, DeSantis' video announcing the suspension missed the mark by including an apparently fake Winston Churchill quote.

Now there’s roughly a 50/50 chance that the Fed could either cut rates or hold them steady in March, according to futures. A few developments this past week tempered investors’ optimism, and now the possibility of a rate cut in March could be completely thrown out the window, according to economists. He echoed other Fed officials who’ve recently said that beginning to cut rates in March is just not realistic. In addition to officials’ comments, recent economic data also doesn’t bode well for a March rate cut. Markets are expecting twice as many rate cuts this year than what Fed officials themselves estimated in their latest economic projections released in December.

Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley has been throwing harder punches at GOP frontrunner Donald Trump, days before her make-or-break New Hampshire primary on Tuesday. The former U.N. ambassador on Sunday took shots at Trump's mental acuity, his cozy relations with foreign dictators and his position as an establishment figure. Haley took aim at Trump's mental fitness after footage from one of his rallies showed him attributing the Jan. 6 insurrection to Haley, repeating her name four times, apparently mistaking her for former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Trump has invigorated an initially lackluster White House bid by leveraging his multiple criminal indictments to create a narrative of political persecution. On Thursday, CNN’s congressional team reported that senators trying to cut an immigration deal with the White House are running into a problem: Trump. The aid measure is being held up by the immigration showdown to which it was linked — perhaps unwisely many Democrats now think — by the White House. It has caused particular consternation in Europe after the transatlantic alliance was constantly rattled by Trump during his White House term. ATLANTA (AP) — Donald Trump used his social media platform Friday to mock Nikki Haley 's birth name, the latest example of the former president keying on race and ethnicity to attack people of color, especially his political rivals. She has always gone by her middle name, “Nikki.” She took the surname “Haley” upon her marriage in 1996. Haley has dismissed Trump's latest attacks as proof that she threatens his bid for a third consecutive nomination. Trump has a long history of using race, ethnicity and immigrant heritage as a cudgel. He was born in Hawaii, though Trump spent years asserting Obama had manufactured the story and a birth certificate to support it.

Like so many sexual assault victims and survivors, Carroll’s ongoing pursuit of justice, the court proceedings and the response of her alleged abuser have been re-traumatizing. The US Department of Veterans reports that one in three victims of sexual assault will experience post-traumatic stress disorder sometime during their lives. Like so many survivors, Carroll likely knew what was coming when she chose to bring a case against the former president not once but twice.
