Read previewUkraine and Israel are exploring cost-effective ways of countering drones as they both face repeated attacks from their determined adversaries. Israel has one of the world's most advanced air defense networks but is still having trouble countering these drones. Zinchenko/Getty ImagesUkraine needs a cost-effective solution to defeat the thousands of Russian one-way drone attacks that have forced Kyiv to expend large quantities of its expensive air defense missiles to shoot down. Related storiesCEPA's Borsari believes the M61 cannon could be an "interesting solution" for countering certain drones. "In principle, its use in both fixed and mobile applications is not new and is conceptually similar to many other anti-aircraft guns that have been used for counter-drone purposes in Ukraine," Borsari said.

Although recent reports suggest the plans have been scaled back, the 2.4km still due to be built will be the largest linear city in existence if it is completed. The Spanish architect Arturo Soria is widely credited with designing the first linear city, "La Ciudad Lineal," in 1882 on the outskirts of Madrid. "Linear cities are an extreme form of urban dispersal — community development and social cohesion still need centrality," Gold told BI. A linear city may not have this capability," explained Lovgreen. In my opinion, linear city schemes are best left as design exercises for third-year architectural students," Gold said.

The next generation of the "Internet of Bodies," or IOB, could bring technological devices and the human body closer together than ever before. Academic and author Andrea M. Matwyshyn, who coined the term in 2016, describes it as "a network of human bodies whose integrity and functionality rely at least in part on the internet and related technologies, such as artificial intelligence." Smart glasses, which can function as cameras, headphones or monitors, are another example of early IOB devices. These devices completely merge with the body while maintaining a real-time connection to an external machine and the internet. "As bits and bodies meld and as human flesh becomes permanently entwined with hardware, software, and algorithms, IOB will test our norms and values as a society," she wrote.

Part of the slow spending approach is coming from the fact that senior executives are looking at gen AI the wrong way, said Sreekanth Menon, global leader, AI and machine learning at Genpact. The research showed that about half of the executives are framing gen AI solely as a productivity tool. "The infancy of gen AI, combined with a warped conception of its potential, has led to reluctant budgetary spending." The research from Genpact and HFS showed that business leaders are dedicating up to 10% of their IT budgets to gen AI projects. "To successfully move AI from a pilot stage to production, organizations need to pause and ensure their gen AI plan is aligned with specific business objectives, not just productivity," he said.

Like many flags and historical symbols, the Appeal to Heaven flag has multiple meanings and has been used in differing capacities. What is ‘An Appeal to Heaven?’The Appeal to Heaven flag, or “Pine Tree” flag, features a green pine tree on a white field, with the words “An Appeal to Heaven” in black text above it. The pine tree retained this meaning of resistance, and has appeared on some state flags and seals. However, the polarizing recent history of the Appeal to Heaven flag is starting to become known. This week, the city of San Francisco made the decision to remove an “Appeal to Heaven” flag that flew alongside several other flags over City Hall.

What is the internet of bodies?

You've heard the term "Internet of Things" – where inanimate objects can be connected to the internet and each other. But in 2016, academic and author Dr. Andrea M. Matwyshyn took it one step further, coining the term, "Internet of Bodies," or IoB. She describes it as "a network of human bodies whose integrity and functionality rely at least in part on the Internet and related technologies, such as artificial intelligence." These devices completely merge with the body while maintaining a real-time connection to an external machine and the internet. However, there are some existing laws that could be extended to safeguard IoB data.

Although artificial intelligence has powered some of the iPhone’s experiences for years, such as Live Text and improved autocorrect, generative AI could unlock new levels of interaction and personalization. The debut of an AI iPhone could also entice consumers to upgrade at a time when they’ve been holding onto older models longer. Now all eyes shift to Apple for its take on generative AI. Expediting AIBehind the scenes, Apple reportedly has been working on its on-device generative AI capabilities and acquiring companies for awhile, such as Canadian startup DarwinAI. But now it needs to show it’s going all in on artificial intelligence to stay relevant in a rapidly evolving industry.

“It is time to break it up.”It is difficult to overstate just how thoroughly Live Nation, which acquired Ticketmaster more than a decade ago, controls live entertainment in America. Through Ticketmaster, Live Nation controls 80% of venues’ primary ticketing for concerts. There’s a fine line between vertical integration and all-out monopoly, and Live Nation is, at minimum, very clearly toeing it. Artists, fans and venues have been complaining about Live Nation and Ticketmaster pretty much since they agreed to merge in 2009. Live Nation, Wolfson said, is likely to come out swinging.

The U.S. Department of Justice is suing to break up Live Nation, the parent company of Ticketmaster, over alleged antitrust violations. "The DOJ's complaint attempts to portray Live Nation and Ticketmaster as the cause of fan frustration with the live entertainment industry. Live Nation and Ticketmaster merged in 2010, creating a dominant entity in the live event industry. Through Ticketmaster, Live Nation controls roughly 80% or more of major concert venues' primary ticketing for concerts, the complaint said. Live Nation earlier this month reported its "biggest Q1 ever," citing first-quarter revenue that was up 21% from the prior-year period.

But the Department of Justice says those complaints are just the symptom of a more fundamental problem with Live Nation. Live Nation, for its part, says even if the lawsuit succeeds, it won’t lead to cheaper ticket prices. An uncertain path forwardTo fix the issue, regulators say Live Nation must be broken up. Honor will integrate generative AI experiences into its forthcoming hardware, which will be powered by Google Cloud, the company said. A spokesperson for the Chinese firm told CNBC that this would include Google's AI assistant Gemini, as well as Imagen 2, a text-to-image generation tool. Smartphone makers are attempting to bring AI features to their phones, in a bid to get users to upgrade to their latest flagship devices. The integration with Google's AI features builds on Honor already running the U.S. firm's operating system Android on its smartphones. Designing advanced generative AI features can be difficult for individual smartphone makers, so partnering with Google gives them a shortcut to the latest generative AI apps that employ the tech.
