"If this industry doesn't keep up, we're not going to have so many restaurants," Frischling told Insider.
Frischling is part of a wave of restaurant operators and high-profile chains investing millions in the industry's future.
Over the years, Chipotle, Inspire Brands, and Restaurant Brands International — the owner of Burger King and Popeyes — have invested in autonomous-delivery vehicles, ghost kitchens, and digital-ordering software.
