A majority of American college students blame Hamas for the Oct. 7 attack on Israel, and two-thirds describe the attack as an act of terrorism by Hamas, according to a Generation Lab poll of two- and four-year college students. The poll finds 86% of college students saying they’re aware of the Oct. 7 attack on Israel. More than half, 52%, of the college students who say they’re aware of the Oct. 7 attack blame it on Hamas. By party, 73% of Republicans, 50% of Democrats and 50% of independents say they blame Hamas for the attack on Israel. And by race, 58% of white college students, 47% of Latinos and 36% of Black college students believe Hamas deserves blame for the attack.

KHAN YOUNIS, Gaza Strip (AP) — A massive blast rocked a Gaza City hospital packed with wounded and other Palestinians seeking shelter Tuesday, killing hundreds of people, the Hamas-run Health Ministry said. Hamas blamed an Israeli airstrike, while the Israeli military said the hospital was hit by a rocket misfired by Palestinian militants. Hamas' Oct. 7, attack in southern Israel killed more than 1,400 people, mostly civilians, and took some 200 captive into Gaza. In Gaza City, Israeli airstrikes also hit the house of Hamas’ top political official, Ismail Haniyeh, killing at least 14 people. Haniyeh is based in Doha, Qatar, but his family lives in Gaza City.

CNN —A split-second decision to run and hide in an orange grove could be the very thing that saved 22-year-old Gal Katz’s life, after Hamas militants unleashed a harrowing assault on an Israeli music festival in the early hours of Saturday. As gunmen approached, festival-goer Katz and a friend fled for the nearby grove, where they hid for around six hours. Katz’s other friends at the festival, however, did not survive — killed by terrorists who found them inside a security shelter. I figured if it was something serious, [music festival security] would end the party and tell us what to do. The terrorists aren’t interested in orange groves — they’re looking for houses, they’re looking for cities, they’re looking for settlements.

More than 2 million people live in the Gaza Strip, which is facing a punishing counterattack from Israel. Experts say Gaza is in the midst of a humanitarian crisis, and people are running out of basic supplies. The crisis is exacerbated by the fact that Gaza has been restricted under blockade for 16 years. So far, thousands have been killed or injured in the Palestinian territories of Gaza and the West Bank and in Israel. Groups are begging for the establishment of humanitarian corridors to bring in much-needed supplies to the trapped region.

And as forces continue to mass near the border, Israeli officials continue to signal that this is just the beginning. It's been nearly a decade since Israel last invaded Gaza, giving Hamas ample time to prepare. In Gaza, Israeli forces may be vulnerable to traps, surprise guerrilla warfare tactics, and well-armed militants who have the advantage of defending the complex terrain. Israel, nonetheless, retains strong international support from the US in its fight with Hamas, which the US regards as a terrorist organization.
