Club holdings Amazon , Costco , Home Depot , and Best Buy have been preparing for the port strike for months — attempting to blunt any fallout it might have on their abilities to get goods from overseas. They added that 60% to 70% of those imports arrive at East Coast and Gulf Coast ports. To put things in perspective, for retail goods, the East Coast ports are less utilized than the West Coast ports, Basham said. Due to its size, however, Best Buy often gets priority from its shippers, which could help secure goods faster than smaller competitors. Though the S & P 500 is up more than 20% in 2024, Evercore ISI sees a patch of volatility ahead as the November presidential election approaches — and the firm has stocks to play either outcome. Evercore ISI thinks that automotive components manufacturer Aptiv could rise in the event of a Harris/Walz win. Evercore ISI called the bank "a flight to quality name," saying it was in a competitive position despite an uncertain backdrop. If Trump wins, Charter Communications is one stock that could benefit from a "potentially benign tax environment" and a pickup in M & A activity, Evercore ISI said. Supermarket operator Kroger could also outperform due to its ability to pass through higher prices to consumers, according to Evercore ISI.

CNN —While there are still five weeks until Election Day, voting is already underway across the country and a CNN review suggests pre-election voting this year will drop from the pandemic-era highs of 2020. That’s a tiny fraction of the roughly 158 million votes cast for president in the 2020 election. The downtick in interest in early voting so far shouldn’t be surprising. The 2020 election featured historic levels of pre-election voting during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, at the same point in the 2020 election, Democrats accounted for 66% of all ballot requests, while Republicans accounted for 24%.

It's only been two weeks since the Federal Reserve cut interest rates for the first time in more than four years, but investors are already getting paid less to park their extra cash. Central bank policymakers trimmed a half point from the fed funds rate in September, bringing it down to a range of 4.75% to 5%. That means that the days of 5% yields on idle cash are largely in the past, at least for the current cycle. NEBATIEH, LEBANON - SEPTEMBER 28: Smoke rises after Israeli attacks over Shebaa town of Nabatieh province on September 28, 2024. The Israeli air and artillery forces are supporting the offensive, the IDF said. Hezbollah said that claims that Israel had entered Lebanon are "false," reporting no "direct ground clashes," according to a Google-translated statement. Historically sensitive to geopolitical tremors, oil prices have resisted long-term spikes, reined in by the specter of waning global demand and potential supply increases. On its own, this escalation would point to higher oil prices and inflation.
