On the day after the election, Nov. 6, X experienced its largest user exodus since Elon Musk bought the platform in 2022. NBC News spoke to six people who have joined or committed to using Threads and Bluesky in place of X after the election because of Musk. In the past five days, Wurtz said people she used to follow on X have started to trickle over to Threads. “I have a private personal account for friends and family and a public account for Taylor Swift, so nobody drowns in my Taylor Swift content,” Polo said. Currently, X users can go to the site’s settings and opt out.

The Boston-area university’s denial followed a reported claim by one of its professors that the political science department would no longer facilitate internships at Moulton’s office. “We have reached out to Congressman Moulton’s office to clarify that we have not — and will not — limit internship opportunities with his office,” the university said in a statement. Moulton’s office also shared a transcript of a voicemail that it said was left by Art, the contents of which were first reported by The Boston Globe. House Republicans’ razor-thin victory was propelled by Trump’s decisive win over Vice President Kamala Harris in both the Electoral College and the popular vote. So far, Republicans have captured the 218 seats needed to secure the majority to Democrats’ 208 seats. Last week, Republicans flipped three Democratic Senate seats to win control of the upper chamber. They were among the 18 GOP House districts that President Joe Biden carried in 2020. Democratic challenger George Whitesides also ousted vulnerable GOP Rep. Mike Garcia in Southern California.

WASHINGTON — Over the last two years, a narrow Republican House majority has fought bitterly over everything from electing a speaker, keeping the government functioning and even passing symbolic messaging bills. Now, Republicans have clinched at least 218 seats to win a House majority, NBC News projects, but it’ll be another small one. “The House has always been a chaotic place, will always be a chaotic place. And here in the Senate, obviously, we continue to have a number of tools to exercise.”There is precedent for a narrow House majority delivering major legislation. ‘Trump is so volatile’Rep. WASHINGTON — Rep. Dan Goldman, D-N.Y., plans to file a resolution in the House on Thursday that would express support for the 22nd Amendment of the Constitution, which sets the term limits for the president. However, he could introduce it as a privileged resolution to force Republicans to vote on the matter. The resolution, which NBC News obtained Wednesday, reaffirms that the 22nd Amendment "applies to two terms in the aggregate as President of the United States" and reaffirms that it "applies to President-elect Trump." The resolution lists a number of instances in which Trump has joked or floated the idea of serving longer than two terms in the White House or being a dictator. To amend the Constitution and modify term limits for president, both the House and the Senate would need to approve amendment language by two-thirds votes.

NBC News has reported that the Trump administration plans to end Biden's programs, possibly making those who have not yet received asylum eligible for deportation. The recall last week of two Bay Area officials who both championed progressive crime policies reflects long-held frustrations around a previous increase in violence targeting the Asian American community, experts say. The vote is indicative of Asian Americans’ rightward shift toward tougher crime policies like much of the state, analysts say. From March 2020 to December 2021, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders across the country reported nearly 11,000 hate incidents, including verbal and physical abuse, being coughed at or spat on, and facing discrimination in the workplace. “And a lot of people say, ‘Oh, we’ve moved on from that era.’ I don’t think Asian Americans have,” said James Zarsadiaz, author of “Resisting Change in Suburbia,” whose research focuses on Asian American conservatism. In San Francisco, for example, officials received 60 reports of hate crimes against Asian Americans in 2021, compared with the nine in 2020.

Democrat Dave Min has defeated Republican Scott Baugh in the race for a congressional seat in Orange County, California, NBC News projects. The results come after a contentious election cycle in a swing district with rapidly shifting demographics. The number of registered Democrats is nearly identical to the number of registered Republicans in a district where unaffiliated voters largely decided the race. But Min previously told NBC News that his advocacy for the community makes him well-positioned to represent it. “Those of us who are Asian American end up representing not just our own districts but Asian Americans across the entire region, maybe across the entire U.S.”

Price growth ticked higher in October as voters began casting ballots in a presidential election in which economic concerns played a big role. The consumer price index climbed to 2.6% last month since the same time last year, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Wednesday. Stock futures turned higher, while traders bid up the price of government bonds. All-important shelter costs rose 0.4% from September to October, accounting for over half the monthly gains, the BLS said. Over the past four years, consumer prices have cumulatively increased about 20%, with the costs of many other goods and services rising even faster.

Mortgage rates continued to climb last week as investors considered the future of the economy under a Trump presidency. The mortgage market basically took a breather. “Mortgage rates continued to increase last week, driven by higher Treasury yields as financial markets digested the likely impacts of a Trump presidency,” said Joel Kan, the Mortgage Bankers Association’s deputy chief economist. Last year at that time, mortgage rates were 75 basis points higher. “FHA mortgage rates bucked the overall trend and were lower over the week, which likely helped some borrowers,” Kan said.

Former Vice President Mike Pence was, for most of their four years together, a loyal partner who helped smooth Trump’s dealings with establishment Republicans and evangelical conservatives. “It compresses things,” said Joel Goldstein, a vice presidential scholar and professor emeritus at Saint Louis University. At one point, polling showed him to be one of the least-liked vice presidential candidates over the last 30 years. And during his own presidency, Biden tasked Vice President Kamala Harris with the tough-to-define and tough-to-evaluate assignment of tackling the root causes of migration from Mexico and Central America. He also was the last sitting vice president to win the presidency.

Republicans will keep control of the House of Representatives, NBC News projected Wednesday. Going into the election, House Republicans aimed to expand their razor-thin majority of 220 seats, compared to the 212 held by Democrats. That threadbare GOP majority gave Democrats high hopes to flip the chamber. Despite the massive fundraising effort, Democrats failed to gain the 218 seats needed for control of the House. Matt Cartwright, and in the state's 7th District, Republican Ryan Mackenzie defeated incumbent Democratic Rep. Susan Wild, two particularly competitive races.

Tesla is recalling 2,431 Cybertrucks to replace defective drive inverters, according to notices made public by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Wednesday. It's the sixth recall of the Cybertruck since the angular steel pickup went on sale about a year ago. Tesla addressed the previous Cybertruck recall with an over-the-air software update to fix an issue that caused images from the truck's backup cameras to not display correctly after the driver shifted into reverse. The latest Cybertruck recall requires the replacement of a part called a drive inverter, which provides power to the wheels of the vehicle. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has clashed with NHTSA and other federal regulators for years.

New York CNN —Larry Summers has some unsolicited advice for President-elect Donald Trump: Don’t keep your campaign promises — unless you want to send prices skyrocketing once again. “If he carries through on what he said during his campaign, there will be an inflation shock significantly greater than the one the country suffered in 2021,” Summers told Kate Bolduan on CNN News Central on Wednesday. “I hope that he will get the message from this election and adjust his programs so that it’s not inflationary,” Summers told CNN. “In his first term, President Trump instituted tariffs against China that created jobs, spurred investment, and resulted in no inflation,” Karoline Leavitt, a Trump transition spokesperson, said in a statement. They just didn’t want the consequences that came with it in terms of increased inflation,” Summers said.

"The American people re-elected President Trump by a resounding margin giving him a mandate to implement the promises he made on the campaign trail," Leavitt said in a statement.
