An independent, bipartisan review identified “numerous mistakes” by the U.S. Secret Service and “specific failures and breakdowns” that enabled the assassination attempt that injured former President Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania, in July. “The Secret Service as an agency requires fundamental reform to carry out its mission," the members added. "Without that reform, the Independent Review Panel believes another Butler can and will happen again.”The Secret Service did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the review. “The increasing demand placed on the agency during this dynamic threat environment has resulted in our people being pushed to the limit,” said Anthony Guglielmi, chief of communications for the Secret Service. The group said it identified “deep flaws in the Secret Service, including some that appear to be systemic or cultural,” including a “lack of critical thinking among Secret Service personnel” and agents’ unwillingness to “speak up” regarding potential threats.

Last month, a state-run health care agency launched a website that shares information that proponents of the ballot measure say is misleading. The DeSantis administration has also ramped up efforts to investigate allegations of fraud in the signature-gathering process by the groups behind the measure. In addition, the state Health Department sent cease-and-desist letters this month to multiple television stations across the state that had aired an ad that supported the ballot measure. Spokespersons for the DeSantis administration, the Health Department and the Agency for Health Care Administration didn’t respond to questions. Even putting the efforts from DeSantis and other Florida Republicans aside, the ballot measure faces an uphill climb.

While charts like Carnival Corp. (CCL) have once again become overbought, the strength of the recent breakout suggests they may just be getting started. The longer a resistance level is tested, the more meaningful it becomes when the price finally breaks above this price ceiling. As long as CCL remains above this breakout level, the uptrend phase appears to be in good shape. Note the daily RSI which has pushed above the crucial 70 level on the recent breakout. The recent breakout for cruise lines like Carnival Corp. suggests that the uptrend phase may just be beginning.

Bernstein analyst Gautam Chhugani said last month that a Trump win could be monumental for the crypto industry. Bitcoin might be ultimately front-running a potential Trump win in November, with the cryptocurrency up 59% year-to-date.

CNN —Scientists have uncovered communities of animals such as tube worms and snails living in volcanic caves beneath the seafloor, revealing a previously unknown but thriving ecosystem. An eelpout swims by a tower of tube worms at the Tica Vent, a hydrothermal vent site on the East Pacific Rise. Tube worms are immobile creatures that settle and grow in one place without moving, like barnacles. A large cluster of stationary tube worms thrives at the Fava Flow Suburbs, a site on the East Pacific Rise. Researchers use a robotic arm to lift a small portion of volcanic rock to verify that life exists beneath the ocean floor.

Yet the Democratic superstar many members of the party would like to see helping Harris has been absent from the campaign trail so far. She is expected to play a role in the “closing arguments” for the Democratic campaign, three of those people said. Michelle Obama has the unique appeal of being the most popular Democratic surrogate, in part because she has never run for elected office. Michelle Obama has been open about her disdain for partisan politics, despite some in both parties speculating about her running for office in the future. “Michelle Obama is asking you — no, I’m telling y’all—to do something.”

Including Detroit, Trump this year has pointedly attacked the most populous cities in three battleground states crucial to winning the White House: Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Trump’s attacks risk offending swing voters who don’t share his dark view of their big cities, as well as Black voters his campaign is trying to sway in what’s expected to be a close election won on the margins. Thank you, sir, for saying it.’ They want help.”“These cities,” Trump added, “it’s like living in hell.”It’s not only large cities that Trump likes to vilify. Abu Dhabi is set to become the next location to showcase multimedia entertainment in the unique spherical structure, the Sphere Entertainment Co. and Abu Dhabi tourism officials announced on Tuesday. The planned venue aligns with the capital of the United Arab Emirates’ Tourism Strategy 2030 aimed at “further establishing Abu Dhabi as a vibrant hub for culture and innovation,” said H.E. Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi, in a news release. The partnership for the second installment, between Abu Dhabi tourism officials and Sphere Entertainment, is “subject to finalization of definitive agreements,” the news release said. It would involve a “franchise initiation fee” paid to Sphere Entertainment for the right to build the venue.

Black men have historically voted overwhelmingly for Democratic candidates, with turnout typically lagging that of Black women but consistent nonetheless. Even a relatively small drop in support from Black men for Harris could be significant given the razor-thin margins in battleground states. “Black men prioritize being the primary breadwinners of the household and care about real wages and permanent jobs. The Harris campaign also plans to ramp up its programming specifically designed to engage Black men. This week, it is set to partner with Black male celebrities, influencers and activists to hold “Black Men Huddle Up” events in battleground states, NFL and NCAA watch parties that will double as an avenue for Black men to discuss the stakes of the election.

“The overall trend is unmistakable: The far right is gaining ground,” said Matthijs Rooduijn, a politics professor at the University of Amsterdam. But recent elections have seen the far right increasingly usurp centrist conservatives as the main right-wing force. “But that potential upper limit just keeps increasing.”The far right is “no longer second fiddle to the main right-wing party. Centrists can sometimes cobble together coalitions to keep out the far right — even if those parties are smaller individually. Whereas in France, Le Pen was kept from victory in June-July parliamentary elections by an intricate network of tactical voting between erstwhile rivals.

The trio of blue wall states offer promise to Vice President Harris and former President Trump. She's worked to rally union workers — a key voting bloc — around her campaign. But Loge also pointed to a newly-released Emerson College poll, which showed that Harris' union support varied by state. In the Quinnipiac poll, Michigan voters gave Trump an eight-point edge (53% to 45%) on the economy. And she's aiming to win over voters — especially union workers — in smaller cities where Trump found success in 2016.

And they are long-shot races, especially during a presidential election, when ticket-splitting isn’t as common as it used to be. In Florida and Texas, Democrats are focusing on state abortion bans to try to push beyond their recent losses in those states. Cruz’s campaign spent almost $5 million on ads in September and $4 million in the first 10 days of October. The spending disparity is less stark in Florida, where in September Mucarsel-Powell’s campaign spent $8.6 million and Scott’s campaign spent $2.1 million. In Maryland, the Senate race features a similar dynamic, with the race rated by Cook as “Likely Democrat,” even though Harris is expected to win there easily.

— In their first and only debate of an unusually competitive Maryland Senate race Thursday, Prince George's County Executive Angela Alsobrooks and former Gov. Larry Hogan sparred over the issue of abortion and whether the deep blue state would be best represented by a staunch Democrat or an anti-Donald Trump Republican. Hogan distanced himself from the former president and current GOP presidential nominee, framing himself as someone willing to put "country over party." Alsobrooks dismissed that frame, arguing that a vote for Hogan would mean a vote for a Senate Republican majority that would threaten abortion rights and support for Ukraine. However, prices for many physical goods have deflated as supply-and-demand dynamics return to normal following pandemic-era contortions. "Outside of goods prices, I don't think we'll see price cuts," said Mark Zandi, chief economist at Moody's. That served to weaken demand, which also pushed down prices, economists said. Outside of supply-demand dynamics, the U.S. dollar's strength relative to other global currencies has also helped rein in prices for imported goods, economists said. Energy, food and consumer electronicsOutside of imported goods, consumers may also see a "normalization" of prices in food and energy, Zandi said.
