Biden's political operation announced on Tuesday in a press release that the combined campaign, joint fundraising committees and the Democratic National Committee raised $51 million in April. Trump and the Republican National Committee recently announced they raised $76 million last month. Excluding any money from the RNC or any PACs, Trump's campaign committee reported raising $9.4 million in April. Biden's campaign committee raised $24.2 million in the same time period, according to new FEC filings released late Monday night. The event raised over $50 million shared between the Trump campaign, the RNC, his political action committee Save America and over a dozen state parties, according to the Trump campaign and the RNC.

Mr. Trump’s campaign still lags far behind in total cash on hand, the April filings show. Mr. Trump is leading Mr. Biden in many polls, including recent New York Times/Siena College/Philadelphia Inquirer surveys that had the former president ahead in five of six top battleground states. Mr. Trump also continues to spend millions of dollars on legal bills, the filings show. Still, the filings and campaign statements reflect a busy fund-raising month for Mr. Trump. Save America also received $2.75 million in April from a super PAC backing Mr. Trump, Make America Great Again Inc., and $183,000 from a new joint fund-raising committee Mr. Trump has with the Republican Party.

Former President Donald J. Trump and the Republican Party out-raised President Biden and the Democrats last month for the first time in this election cycle, according to campaign officials, as Mr. Biden’s pace of fund-raising slowed significantly from March. Mr. Trump’s advisers have said privately that his campaign, together with the Republican Party and all of their affiliated committees, raised $76.2 million in April. The Biden campaign said on Monday evening that it had raised $51 million in April with the Democratic National Committee — which was just over half as much as they raised in March, and also a touch less than they raised in February. In filings with the Federal Election Commission on Monday, Mr. Biden’s campaign committee reported taking in $24.2 million in April, compared with $43.8 million in March.

CNN —Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s running mate, Nicole Shanahan, says their campaign supports federal limits restricting abortion access “between 15 and 18 weeks” of gestation, the latest statement on the issue after the campaign walked back recent comments made by Kennedy in opposition to government limits on abortion. “The campaign stance right now is very much, you know, looking at terms and limits, and the campaign very much supports limits on abortion,” she said. Kennedy said in a podcast interview released last week that he opposes any government limits on abortion access. In the new interview, Shanahan also expressed support for individual states deciding on abortion access, echoing Kennedy’s skepticism of the federal government regulating health care. But she said she’s concerned state-level abortion restrictions could make the issue “over-politicized.”“I think that the trend towards, you know, states making these decisions is good.

At Morehouse College in Atlanta, discontent over the Gaza war has played out relatively quietly, in classrooms and auditoriums rather than on campus lawns. “This should not be a place that cancels people regardless of if we agree with them,” David Thomas, the Morehouse president, said in an interview on Thursday. Mr. Richmond does not think Mr. Biden will face protests. “The Morehouse College graduation, at least as I remember it, is a very solemn event,” he said. But the College Democrats insist their worries are also rooted in what they see as the Biden campaign’s unwillingness to grasp the scope of how difficult it is becoming to engage young voters. A mixed picturePolling of young voters on the Israel-Hamas War, specifically about its effect on Biden’s campaign, presents a mixed picture. Only 18% of young voters approved of Biden’s handling of the Israel-Hamas war, according to the Harvard/IOP poll. Seth Schuster, a spokesman for the Biden campaign, touted its investment in engaging young voters. It is even hard for young people to talk to other young people about how to do this,” the Democratic strategist said.

CNN —Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will appear on Hawaii’s presidential ballot following a Friday ruling that blocked an effort by Hawaii Democrats to disqualify his campaign’s ballot access petition. Hawaii marks the third state where Kennedy has officially qualified for ballot access. He gained ballot access in Michigan, a key battleground state, earlier this week after qualifying for Utah’s ballot earlier this year. A spokesperson for the Hawaii Office of Elections confirmed to CNN that Friday’s ruling means Kennedy will appear on the state’s ballot. The Kennedy campaign and the Democratic Party of Hawaii did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

CNN —Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. officially qualified for the ballot in Michigan, a key battleground state that could prove pivotal in deciding the outcome of the 2024 presidential election. Natural Law Party of Michigan chair Doug Dern told CNN the party nominated Kennedy in a convention on Wednesday. The Michigan Secretary of State’s office confirmed to CNN the party’s nomination has been approved and Kennedy will appear on the state’s ballot. In a hypothetical head-to-head matchup between Trump and Biden, Trump earned 48% support from Michigan voters, while Biden earned 45% support. Michigan is the second state where Kennedy has officially qualified for the ballot.

In an unprecedented trial, Mr. Trump is spending most of this week, and much of the coming month or two, in a Manhattan courtroom facing criminal charges. Ohio’s certification deadline is August 7 and Alabama’s is August 15. The Biden campaign has called on Ohio and Alabama officials to follow past precedent. The Biden campaign has insisted that it “will be on the ballot in all 50 states.”It has proposed several options. Ohio and Alabama could push back their deadlines or accept provisional certifications that would be confirmed after the conventions – as Alabama did in 2020 for Republicans. In Alabama, Democratic lawmakers in the state House and state Senate introduced legislation Thursday to push back the certification deadline to August 23.

Even as some of President Biden’s top campaign officials were attacking Donald J. Trump’s campaign for soliciting donations to pay his legal fees, the Biden-aligned Democratic National Committee was helping pay for lawyers in the special counsel investigation into Mr. Biden’s handling of classified documents. has directed at least $1.7 million to lawyers since July to cover the president’s representation in the documents inquiry, a figure that pales in comparison to Mr. Trump’s use of supporters’ donations to pay his hefty legal fees. The former president has spent more than $100 million on legal bills since leaving office, relying almost entirely on donations. Federal Election Commission records show that since the investigation began last year, the D.N.C. has paid $1.05 million to Bob Bauer, the president’s lawyer.

Donald Trump's campaign said it raised $50.5 million on Saturday, a staggering reported haul as his campaign works to catch up to the fundraising juggernaut of President Joe Biden and the Democratic Party. Trump and the GOP announced earlier in the week that they raised more than $65.6 million in March and closed out the month with $93.1 million. Biden and the Democrats announced Saturday that they took in more than $90 million last month and had $192 million-plus on hand. Campaign fundraising reports filed with the Federal Election Commission detailing donations from Saturday's event are not expected until a mid-July filing date. But when checks of any amount are written to the combined campaign, the campaign and Save America get paid first by default.

In 2020, Biden won the state by fewer than 21,000 votes, with no Green Party candidates on the ballot. Four years earlier, Trump carried Wisconsin by nearly 23,000 votes, with the Green Party’s Jill Stein earning more than 30,000 voters. When third-party candidates were added to the mix, both Biden and Trump saw their numbers fall by about 10 percentage points. “It really brings forward the idea that the two big parties just hand us candidates to choose from,” Anderson said. But Democrats have long viewed Stein’s campaign as one of the decisive factors in delivering Trump the state of Wisconsin and the presidency.

The event marks a critical moment for Kennedy’s White House bid that could accelerate his efforts to gain ballot access in all 50 states. His vice presidential pick will also be tasked with broadening Kennedy’s appeal and helping raise money for his big-spending campaign.
