Runaway standings leader Max Verstappen's winning run ended at 10 races and Red Bull's at 15 — both F1 records — as Carlos Sainz Jr. won the Singapore Grand Prix for Ferrari on Sunday. Red Bull dreamed of winning every race this year but had Verstappen fifth and Perez eighth after struggling all weekend in Singapore. That was the best feeling," Sainz said after celebrating with his team as fireworks lit up the Singapore circuit. Leclerc was fourth after failing to hold off the Mercedes cars on older tires, ahead of Verstappen in fifth.

Daniel Ricciardo Fights His Way Back in Formula 1

There was a point earlier this year when Daniel Ricciardo realized he was through with rediscovering normal life and that he still wanted to be a Formula 1 driver. Ricciardo had spent two lazy months at home in Australia with family and friends after he was dropped by McLaren last year, trying to determine whether the love he once held for the sport still existed. “Other than that day, I was living life,” Ricciardo said in an interview. “I wasn’t going stupid, but I was having beers with friends, camping, fishing, doing these things. I didn’t want to become a bit of a slob.”

Alternatively, punitive tariffs on imports from China could accelerate Chinese EV makers' plans to build in Europe, analysts said, raising competition for domestic carmakers. "Volkswagen could gain from lower mass-market competition, but is the most exposed ... premium OEMs ...face the risk of retaliation and might see their China-export plans sent awry," he added. By 1210 GMT, the STOXX Europe 600 Auto (.SXAP) index was down 1.46%, while the broader market was steady. BMW, which exports the iX3 from China and plans to export the Mini from 2024, fell 2.08%, with Mercedes-Benz down 1.56% and Volkswagen down 1.83%. Stocks of carmakers Renault and Stellantis, which are less exposed to the Chinese market than their German counterparts, saw smaller dips of 1.33% and 0.81% respectively.

The 21-year-old New Zealander was drafted in by the Red Bull-owned team after Australian Ricciardo broke his hand in practice for last month's Dutch Grand Prix, missing that race and the Italian Grand Prix. Ricciardo, who returned to the paddock ahead of this weekend's Singapore Grand Prix to be with the team engineers, could also miss the Japanese round at Suzuka on Sept. 24. And I don't think I can settle for anything less," Lawson told reporters. Lawson has been racing in Japan this year and has competed previously at Suzuka. MONZA, Italy, Sept 1 (Reuters) - Lewis Hamilton has questioned the strength of Max Verstappen's Formula One team mates compared to those the Briton has partnered over the years. The seven times world champion also told Sky Italy that he was "no more impressed" with the Red Bull driver's achievements than he had been when other champions were winning and dominating. "In my personal opinion, Valtteri and all of my team mates have been stronger than the team mates that Max has had. Verstappen won the Italian Grand Prix from seventh on the starting grid last year with Ferrari's Charles Leclerc on pole but finishing second. Red Bull have won every race so far this season, 14 in a row including the 2022 finale in Abu Dhabi, and are again favourites at Monza's fast layout. Since Lewis Hamilton's fifth Italian GP win with Mercedes in 2018 no driver has managed a repeat victory in the former royal park outside Milan.
