Ahead of Donald Trump’s Tuesday appearance in the heavily Latino city of Allentown, Pennsylvania, a comedian’s racist joke about Puerto Ricans at the former president’s Madison Square Garden rally drew fresh blowback. “However, the other five million who live in the United States, whom they also labeled as trash, can vote.”One of those five million Puerto Rican voters is Allentown resident Efraín Dávila. Hinchcliffe made his racist jokes in an election cycle in which Republicans have said they are messaging to Latinos as Americans. But the comedian at his rally attacked Puerto Ricans, who are American citizens at birth, not immigrants, said Mike Madrid, a Republican consultant who opposes Trump. Madrid added that it is more difficult to waive off the comedian’s racist jokes, because they did not come from Trump.

A slain woman's body was found inside a guest room at a chic spa and resort in the Hamptons, authorities said Tuesday. "Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the murder of a victim whose body was found in a guest room at a Water Mll resort," county police said. The Shou Shugi Ban House in Watermill, N.Y., in 2021. CNN —A man has died and up to nine other people are missing after a 10-story hotel collapsed in Argentina. Firefighters, paramedics and police were working to remove debris in order to reach people who are thought to be buried. The victim is thought to have been an 80-year-old man who lived in the building next to the collapsed hotel, minister of security of the province of Buenos Aires Javier Alonso said on the TN news channel. The missing include workers from a construction site at the hotel that was apparently operating “clandestinely, without complying with municipal regulations,” according to the statement. Emergency workers are trying to free up to nine people believed to be trapped in the rubble.

Kyiv, Ukraine CNN —The Russian Defense Ministry claimed Tuesday it had taken the Ukrainian town of Selydove, southeast of the key city of Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region. Russian forces have been advancing on Selydove in the last several weeks, according to frontline reports. Selydove was an important staging area for Ukraine’s defenses and a key foothold to prevent Russia’s advance toward Pokrovsk. On Sunday, a spokesman for a Ukrainian national guard brigade fighting in Selydove told CNN the town had been “constantly attacked from several directions” for a week. The military seized power from the elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi in February 2021, giving rise to intensified fighting with long-established armed groups associated with Myanmar’s ethnic minority groups, and prompting the formation of new pro-democracy militias. CNN —A German-Iranian national and longtime US resident has been executed in Iran after being convicted of terrorism offences, according to Iranian state media citing the country’s judiciary-affiliated Mizan news agency. Jamshid Sharmahd, 69, was executed Monday morning for “planning and orchestrating a series of terrorist acts,” state-run IRNA and Press TV reported. His execution sparked condemnation from the United States and Germany. Sharmahd’s daughter Gazelle has repeatedly said her father is innocent and that he faced a sham trial due to his political activism and criticism of the Islamic Republic. Abram Paley, the US Deputy Special Envoy, last year met with Sharmahd’s family to discuss his imprisonment and death sentence.

CNN —Authorities are investigating after at least two ballot boxes were set on fire Monday morning in the Portland, Oregon, area. Police responded to a call about a fire in Portland about 3:30 a.m. Monday, the Portland Police Bureau said in a statement. An “incendiary device” was placed inside the box and security personnel extinguished the fire, officials said. A second ballot box was set on fire early Monday morning at a bus station in nearby Vancouver, Washington, according to the Vancouver Police Department. When officers arrived, they found a “suspicious device” next to the box, which was smoking and on fire, police said.

In Irvine, although Mayor Khan said the ban had been well received, Irvine’s housing affordability issues aren’t yet solved. Israeli forces withdrew from Kamal Adwan hospital in the city of Beit Lahia on Saturday after a dayslong siege, leaving a trail of destruction inside one the area's last medical lifelines, with overnight strikes on the city killing at least 30 people, local authorities said. Outside the hospital, local authorities reported Israeli airstrikes demolished several houses including in Beit Lahia's Al-Khazan neighborhood. The IDF called the overnight bombings in Beit Lahia “a precise strike using precise munitions,” targeting Hamas infrastructure and militants.
