The core question it presents is whether personal AI devices could have the same impact that the iPhone had on the tech industry. Meta's Responsible AI team shrank amid layoffs and restructuring. Apple might be headquartered in Cupertino but its heart is in China. AdvertisementAdvertisementApple's leadership may operate from the 175-acre, tree-covered campus in sunny Cupertino, California but, in reality, the company's center of gravity is in China. Roughly 95% of Apple products including iPhones, AirPods, Macs and iPads are reported to be made in China . And multiple media outlets reported that China had banned iPhones for government staffers, knocking its share price. Apple CEO Tim Cook likes to present the company's decades-long involvement with China as a cause for celebration.

Apple once considered replacing Google as its default search engine in private browsing mode on its products in favor of DuckDuckGo, according to recently unsealed testimony by the rival search CEO. DuckDuckGo first got a response from Apple about its idea to become the default search engine in private browsing in 2016, Weinberg said. DuckDuckGo claims its search engine greatly reduces the amount of tracking that is still possible in other search engines, even while on private browsing mode. DuckDuckGo presented Apple executives with data about what Apple users expect from private browsing mode, which Weinberg said he'd thought "was pretty compelling." DuckDuckGO estimated its market share "would increase multiple times over" just by becoming the default in private browsing mode.

Apple identifies issues causing overheating in the iPhone 15

[1/5] People look at the new iPhone 15 Pro as Apple's new iPhone 15 officially goes on sale across China at an Apple store in Shanghai, China September 22, 2023. The third-party apps causing the issue include game Asphalt 9; Meta's (META.O) Instagram; and Uber, according to the company. The upcoming iOS 17 bug fix will not reduce performance to address the iPhone's temperature. The Cupertino, California-headquartered company said that the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max do not suffer from overheating due to the design, rather the new titanium shells result in improved heat dissipation compared to prior stainless steel models. Apple also said the issue is not a safety or injury risk, and will not impact the phone's long-term performance.

Apple is blaming a software bug and other issues tied to popular apps such as Instagram and Uber for causing its recently released iPhone 15 models to heat up and spark complaints about becoming too hot to handle. It didn't specify a timeline for when its own software fix would be issued but said no safety issues should prevent iPhone 15 owners from using their devices while awaiting the update. In its acknowledgement, Apple stressed that the trouble isn't related to the sleek titanium casing that houses the high-end iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max instead of the stainless steel used on older smartphones. The downturn has affected iPhone sales, which fell by a combined 4% in the nine months covered by Apple's past three fiscal quarters compared with a year earlier. Apple is trying to pump up its sales in part by raising the starting price for its top-of-the-line iPhone 15 Pro Max to $1,200, an increase of $100, or 9%, from last year's comparable model.

REUTERS/Yves Herman/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsSept 27 (Reuters) - Apple (AAPL.O) was ordered on Wednesday to face a private antitrust lawsuit by payment card issuers accusing the company of thwarting competition for its Apple Pay mobile wallet. The proposed class action is led by Illinois' Consumers Co-op Credit Union, and Iowa's Affinity Credit Union and GreenState Credit Union. According to the complaint, Apple's conduct forces more than 4,000 banks and credit unions that use Apple Pay to pay at least $1 billion of excess fees, and harms consumers by minimizing the incentive to make Apple Pay safer and easier to use. White said the plaintiffs plausibly alleged that Apple allow alternatives to Apple Pay, and that more competition would spur innovation and reduce prices. The case is Affinity Credit Union et al v Apple Inc, U.S. District Court, Northern District of California, No.

Apple's hybrid work pilot program is still going two years after it was first proposed. It started after employees pushed back against a plan to bring them back to the office three days per week. "So what we decided to do was run a pilot where people come into the office three days a week. Apple first announced the pilot program Cook spoke of in June 2021 as pandemic restrictions wound down and people came out into the sun squinting their eyes. CNN —The new iPhone 15 Pro lineup offers the typical slate of new features designed to persuade customers to upgrade: They’re slimmer and thinner than last year’s crop. It’s certain the Action Button will become a viable resource for anyone who revisits an app time and time again throughout the day. Another selling point to splurge for the iPhone 15 Pro ($1,099) or iPhone 15 Pro Max ($1,199): The phones come with a titanium casing — the same alloy used to build the Mars Rover — making them what Apple calls the thinnest and lightest Pro models to date. Apple’s entry level iPhones, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, cost $799 and $899, respectively. For now, iPhone 15 Pro users will enjoy playing with the new Action Button.

Apple CEO Tim Cook holds a new iPhone 15 Pro during the Wonderlust project launch event at the company's headquarters in Cupertino, California, Sept. 12, 2023. Lead time and preorders for Apple's latest iPhone are "better than feared," Morgan Stanley analysts wrote in a note Monday. And reports from Chinese news agencies "suggest solid early pre-order demand for the iPhone 15," they added, despite investor concerns that have focused on China. "If iPhone 15 lead time and pre-order data continue to surprise to the upside, and/or if iPhone builds remain stable, we'd expect to see a short-term recovery in Apple shares," the analysts wrote. However, some investors who would like to get immediate exposure to the Arm IPO through ETFs may be disappointed. Apple spent a lot of time talking at its iPhone 15 launch event about the features of its products that use artificial intelligence, even if it didn't mention AI by name. The Cupertino-based tech giant touted what was under the hood of its iPhone 15 range as well as its Apple Watch Series 9, in particular the chip that powers the devices. For the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2, Apple unveiled the S9 chip. The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max meanwhile are powered by the A17 Pro chip. AI quietly reshapes Apple iPhones, Watches

In contrast, Microsoft (MSFT.O) and Alphabet's (GOOGL.O) Google set ambitious goals for the level of transformation with their AI efforts. The Neural Engine is what Apple calls the building blocks for its chips that accelerate AI functions. The AI components of the watch chip make Siri, Apple's voice assistant, 25% more accurate.
