British Airways' first-class cabin is more luxurious than its business-class section, but I'm not sure I'd pay the full price to experience it again. The upgrade was worth $500, but I probably wouldn't spend thousands on a first-class seat in the future. The difference between business class and first class comes down to details and individual preferences. Arriving at my final destination well-rested and refreshed was worth the $500 upgrade. And though I think my $500 was well-spent on my first-class experience, I don't know if I would be willing to pay full price.

Delta Air Lines ' popular airport lounges are getting a more exclusive tier, in the airline's latest push to cater to high-spending travelers. The first "premium" lounge is scheduled to open in June at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport, and at 38,000 square feet, it will be the largest of the carrier's lounges, Delta said on Thursday. Other high-end Delta lounges will open in Boston and Los Angeles later this year. The new strategy shows Delta moving away from a one-size-fits-all approach for its airport travelers. The airline is joining United Airlines , which operates Polaris lounges, and American Airlines ' which has Flagship lounges, along with standard airport clubs.

I worked as a flight attendant for two years and picked up tips for saving money while traveling. Don't waste your money on food and water at the airport or the overpriced snacks on the plane. But don't wait until you get on the plane — flight attendants don't usually have that much power. You already paid for the ticket, taxi, and luggage, so don't waste your money on overpriced airport water. It's almost never worth it to exchange money at the airportIt's usually cheapest to exchange your money at a bank.

I bid on an Amtrak upgrade and went from business class to first class. My upgrade cost $95 (on top of my $57 business-class ticket) and came with lounge access and food. The Amtrak Lounge was elegant, the first-class seat was spacious and I enjoyed my four-hour ride. I was able to bid a minimum of $95 to get from business class to first class, which comes with complimentary meals, beverages, and large, reserved seats. Even after a $95 bid, I'd still only be paying half price for a first-class ticket, which usually costs about $300.

Air India is getting a makeover. During its golden days, Air India was considered a top-tier carrier with fancy on-board bars, lounges, and luxe cabins. However, the government took over in the 1950s and ran Air India into disarray. Read previewPicking a seat for a long-haul flight is daunting. And every time I book a long-haul flight, I'm stuck weighing the pros and cons. While business class is a luxury, I'd rather spend my money on my trip — not on my flight. Constant flushing, concerning noises, and unwelcome smells often accompany the last row of a domestic flight. Finally, I love the back of the plane because I think it's my best chance of sitting next to empty seats.
