I probably do not have to tell you that Nvidia has really blown up over the past few years. "If people were going to be going crazy about a stock, wouldn't it be this one?" Jack, a moderator of a subreddit dedicated to Nvidia's stock, finds some of the memes around Nvidia irksome. He said ChatGPT's capabilities reinforced his belief in his thesis around Nvidia and AI. I'm not a Nvidia true believer, but I'm apparently Nvidia curious.

But for few has its pursuit been more complicated than for the elite career women Byars strives to help. AdvertisementWhen she finally felt ready to go back to corporate life, she looked for a more sustainable way to pursue professional success. The issue with high-achieving women, Byars says, is they focus on meeting only two of those needs — security (money) and esteem — while neglecting the rest. When the clients cry, it's mostly related to the need Byars says is the trickiest to meet: esteem. But if you're a woman with four kids and a senior-level corporate job, is there really any amount of mindset shifting you can do to avoid burnout?

The psychotherapist's 2020 book, "Polysecure," has become the poly bible for an increasingly queer and fluid generation. Pointed eye contact can force the interrupter to acknowledge youWhen interrupted by Mike Pence during the 2020 Vice Presidential debate, Harris turned her attention to Pence and made pointed eye contact with him. Slowing rate of change in earnings growth There are two important trends to follow in earnings. In the case of Nvidia, earnings are continuing to increase, but the rate of change is decelerating. This earnings report will likely be the final time in this stretch that Nvidia will see triple-digit earnings growth. But the impact has been shrinking – just as the overall Mag 7 impact has been diminishing with second quarter earnings growth broadening out. Last season (Q1), Nvidia was responsible for a little more than one-third of the S & P 500's 8% earnings growth.

The drug company Lykos Therapeutics had spent much of this year expecting to vault to meteoric heights. It had sent an application to the Food and Drug Administration seeking approval to use MDMA to treat post-traumatic stress disorder. It was the capstone to months of increasingly loud concerns being voiced over the quality of Lykos’s clinical trials. Lykos has spent years conducting clinical trials testing whether MDMA-assisted psychotherapy could alleviate the symptoms of PTSD. Its most recent drug trial showed that more than 86 percent of people treated had a measurable reduction in symptom severity.

It all left Democrats on the convention floor feeling euphoric and focused, confident that her speech would spur the Democratic base to turn out in November. But outside the arena, and outside the bubble of ride-or-die Democratic voters, some voters, particularly Republicans, said they did not even bother to watch the speech. And among some still on the fence — those who could make a difference in a tight contest — Ms. Harris’s words did not make immediate converts. Bob and Sharon Reed watched Ms. Harris’s speech on their farm in the hills of central Pennsylvania. They came away from Ms. Harris’s speech feeling a little conflicted.

Veteran investor David Roche expects a bear market in 2025 caused by smaller-than-expected rate cuts, a slowing U.S. economy and an artificial intelligence bubble. "I think [a bear market] is probably coming, but probably in 2025. Roche expects the Fed to resist reducing rates to the market's desired 3.50%. "The second thing is that profits [won't] fulfill expectations, because the economy is going to be slowing," Roche warned. The third factor Roche expects will lead to a bear market is the AI sector.

Here’s the latest:S&P 500 futures were up slightly after fears of a slowdown in growth and hiring rocked the benchmark index last week. Investors endured both a stomach-churning rout on Monday and a bounce-back rally on Thursday. Despite that, the S&P 500 ended the week down just 0.04 percent. The big event this week is Wednesday’s inflation data. Investors are anxious after tepid jobs and manufacturing data suggested a slowdown was on the horizon.

Global markets are cautiously rebounding from an early-August rout — and one asset manager says there's no need to fear a burst tech bubble causing a persistent downturn. A "Buy Treasury bonds" poster is seen at a bank in Haian, East China's Jiangsu province, Aug 1, 2024. "We remain actively bullish," said a bond fund manager, undeterred by unprecedented government moves to cool the sizzling treasury market and arrest a plunge in yields, which move inversely to prices. Falling yields also complicate the People's Bank of China's (PBOC) efforts to stabilize the weakening yuan. Unlike the West, "China's financial markets, including the bond market, are subject to top-down regulation," said Ryan Yonk, economist with the American Institute for Economic Research. Late on Friday, the central bank said it will gradually increase the purchase and sale of treasury bonds in its open market operations.

Depreciation costs could lead to AI stock price declines and valuation scrutiny, according to Baird's Ted Mortonson. AdvertisementThe lurking problem is that the useful lifetime of AI GPU chips can be a lot shorter than many expect, especially as AI chips go through an ever-accelerating innovation cycle, leading to higher-than-expected depreciation expenses that ultimately drag down profits. For example, the bank expects Alphabet to record $28 billion in depreciation costs in 2026, which is 24% more than current consensus estimates of $22.6 billion. AdvertisementBut even that has its limits because of how quickly Nvidia is releasing new GPU chips. And for Mortonson, it all comes back to the return on invested AI capital.

Yes, the S&P 500 is just off of all-time highs following a 36% percent rally from October to July. Major stock prices begin to perform poorly, which drags down the S&P 500 Index, which in turn causes the selling of the index. Although steadily rising global temperatures and their effects are increasingly hard to ignore, Burt believes they're not yet factored into property values.
