The rupee ended unchanged at 81.6850 per U.S. dollar last week. "Markets are sensing a softening of approach from the U.S. Federal Reserve and that's giving legs to risk assets. The benchmark 10-year bond yield finished flat at 7.3012% last week. It is expected to stay within a 7.25%-7.33% band this week, with a break below 7.25% considered highly unlikely, the trader said. Many Asian countries are scheduled to release manufacturing data, with China's factory activity data due Wednesday.
The company receives crude oil from Russia via the 'Friendship' pipeline. REUTERS/Hannibal HanschkeBRUSSELS, Nov 23 (Reuters) - The Group of Seven nations (G7) is looking at a price cap on Russian sea-borne oil in the range of $65-70 per barrel, a European Union diplomat said on Wednesday. "The G7 apparently is looking at a $65-70 per barrel bandwidth," the diplomat said. The idea of the price cap is to prohibit shipping, insurance and re-insurance companies from handling cargos of Russian crude unless it is sold for no more than the maximum price set by the G7 and its allies. Because the world's key shipping and insurance firms dealing with trade in crude oil are based in G7 countries, such a price cap would make it very difficult for Moscow to sell its oil for a higher price.

One kilo gold bars are pictured at the plant of gold and silver refiner and bar manufacturer Argor-Heraeus in Mendrisio, Switzerland, July 13, 2022. Gold prices were flat on Wednesday, as investors held back from making big bets ahead of the U.S. Federal Reserve's latest policy meeting minutes, which could offer clues on further interest rate hikes. "There is some nervousness in the market ahead of the Fed minutes," said Edward Meir, an analyst with ED&F Man Capital Markets. Market participants are awaiting the minutes of Fed's Nov. 1-2 policy meeting due at 1900 GMT. Although gold is seen as a hedge against inflation, rising U.S. interest rates dull non-yielding bullion's appeal.
LONDON, Nov 16 (Reuters) - The British government and the Bank of England are reforming insurers' capital rules, seen as a post-Brexit test of UK willingness to "unshackle" the City of London after leaving the European Union. The EU's Solvency II rules were introduced for insurers in 2016, after years of debate, when Britain was still an EU member. They are designed to ensure insurers hold enough capital to remain stable and can make payouts on policies. The Bank has already consulted on potential changes it says would release 45-90 billion pounds ($53.65-$107.30 billion) of investment capital. The second element involves easing reporting requirements, widening the range of assets insurers can invest in, and tweaks to how insurers' internal capital models are approved.

The dollar index rose 0.3% against its rivals, making gold more expensive for other currency holders. The Fed will likely soon slow its interest rates hikes, Fed Vice Chair Lael Brainard signaled on Monday, but emphasized the central bank still had more work to do. SPDR Gold Trust , the world's largest gold-backed exchange-traded fund, said its holdings rose 0.03% to 910.41 tons on Monday from 910.12 tons on Friday.
Gold flat as investors seek direction from U.S. inflation data

Gold prices were listless on Tuesday as investors held to the sidelines ahead of key U.S. inflation figures, which are likely to influence the Federal Reserve's rate-hike narrative. Spot gold was flat at $1,675.29 per ounce, as of 0034 GMT. Bullion prices hit a three-week peak in the previous session, buoyed by a weaker U.S. dollar. Gold is considered a hedge against inflation, but rising interest rates increase the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding bullion. The European Central Bank must not stop raising interest rates until underlying inflation has clearly peaked, but it may slow the pace of hikes once rates hit a level that starts to restrict growth, France's central bank chief told the Irish Times.

HONG KONG, Nov 1 (Reuters) - Shanghai-based property developer CIFI Holdings (0884.HK) said on Tuesday it has suspended payments on all of its offshore debt after it failed to reach an agreement with creditors to which it owes $414 million in total. CIFI said in a filing it has engaged Haitong International Securities Company Limited as financial advisor and Linklaters as legal adviser to facilitate a restructuring of its $6.85 billion offshore debt, as it is likely to come under continued pressure to generate sufficient cash flows for repayments. CIFI and Longfor had borrowings of 114 billion yuan ($15.61 billion) and 212 billion yuan, respectively, as of June, and Greenland had 122 billion yuan. But it added its offshore debt issues do not materially affect its onshore financing arrangements as a whole and that its commercial operations remain normal. CIFI said on Oct. 13 it had not met certain offshore interest and amortisation payments due to delays in remittances during an extended holiday in mainland China.
BEIJING/HONG KONG, Oct 25 (Reuters) - Global credit rating agency Moody's downgraded Fosun International Ltd (0656.HK) by one notch on Tuesday and revised its outlook to "negative" from "ratings under review" amid concerns over the firm's accelerated asset sales. Fosun and its units had earlier cut stakes in firms such as New China Life Insurance (601336.SS) and Shanghai Yuyuan Tourist Mart Group (600655.SS). Fosun, controlled by billionaire entrepreneur Guo Guangchang, was once one of China's most aggressive dealmakers overseas, buying high-profile assets including resort brand Club Med. Fosun's cash on hand at the holding company level is insufficient to cover its short-term debt maturing over the next 12 months, Moody's added. Fosun also expects to gradually repay the outstanding senior notes and increase borrowings from banks, the report said.
The selling of dollars by state banks in early U.S. trading hours lifted the yuan, said one of the sources, noting the action took place in both onshore and offshore markets. The other source also spotted such state bank dollar selling in the onshore market late in the Asian day. The offshore yuan has been hitting successive record lows in recent sessions, reflecting a strengthening dollar and worries over a slowing Chinese economy. The yuan buying by state banks helped it crawl from a record low of 7.3746 per dollar to 7.3034. The onshore yuan bounced from a low of 7.31 to retrace almost all intraday losses following the state bank actions.
BEIJING/HONG KONG, Oct 25 (Reuters) - Global rating agency Moody's downgraded Fosun International Limited (0656.HK) by one notch on Tuesday and revised its outlook to 'negative' from 'ratings under review', after the firm divested more assets to ease liquidity and debt burdens. "Moody's expects Fosun to face difficulties in refinancing its sizable short-term debt in public bond markets, both onshore and offshore, given the current weak market sentiment," the rating agency said. Fosun's cash on hand at the holding company level is insufficient to cover its short-term debt maturing over the next 12 months, Moody's said. Fosun's management also plans to gradually repay the outstanding senior notes and increase borrowings from banks, the report said. The company did not make any comments on the Bloomberg story or the Citigroup report in response to queries from Reuters.

On Tuesday, both the indexes had closed at a one-week low - marking their third straight session of losses - on the back of risk aversion globally. The Oct. 3-7 Reuters poll of 47 economists suggested inflation - as measured by the Consumer Price Index (INCPIY=ECI) - rose to an annual 7.30% in September from 7.00% the previous month. Some 91% of economists, 43 of 47, expected inflation to be 7.00% or higher, suggesting the bias was for prices to go up further. "There is a strong pressure from food that is playing out," said Dharmakirti Joshi, chief economist at Crisil. The Indian government has introduced measures to calm local prices, including some export restrictions on rice to temper inflation. But consumer prices have remained defiant and stayed above the RBI's upper tolerance limit this year.
