Inside Microsoft's struggles with Copilot
  + stars: | 2024-11-15 | by ( Ashley Stewart | ) www.businessinsider.com   time to read: +23 min
In September 2023, Microsoft's famously soft-spoken CEO, Satya Nadella, unveiled the company's flagship AI product, Copilot, with sweeping fanfare. Some of Microsoft's own employees and executives are privately concerned that Copilot won't be able to deliver on its ambitions. Copilot's struggles have created an opening for Microsoft's rivals, some of whom have seized on the opportunity to promote their own agendas. "Now, when Joe Blow logs into an account and kicks off Copilot, they can see everything," said one Microsoft employee familiar with customer complaints. As complaints and questions over Copilot mount, so does the pressure to justify Microsoft's unprecedented level of spending on AI.

Trump has threatened to hit China with at least 60% tariffs and vowed to end reliance on the country. It would force companies to scramble to find other sources of supply, American consumers to pay higher prices at the store, and, according to many experts, lead to job losses. "If they are interpreted in that way, China might have a much more vigorous response, not limited to tariffs." Those actions could range from economic changes to matters of diplomacy and security, Kennedy said, adding China may "push back as hard as they can." More combative relations between the U.S. and China also brings the risk of public backlash amid rising Chinese nationalism.

Last week, Israeli soccer fans were attacked in the streets, Palestinian flags ripped off walls and antisemitic slurs yelled during riots. But the timeline of how tensions ignited in Amsterdam is different depending on which community you ask. “It’s really so, so manipulative… It only makes everything worse,” Jaïr Stranders, a local theater director and a board member of the Liberal Jewish Community of Amsterdam told CNN. But in Amsterdam, many local Jewish officials as well as the mayor have urged against using that description. “They are Dutch youth,” he noted, adding that Amsterdam is a city of many nationalities and many values that can peacefully coexist.

Memecoins have seen some of the biggest gains in the postelection crypto rally, but market leadership could soon flip to more "serious" tokens. "We don't expect the rally to resemble the '17 or '21 bull markets and would fade the rally for 99% of tokens in circulation with no intrinsic value," Shah said in a note this week. "We expect token prices to diverge in the near term as BTC and cash flow-generating tokens that power networks outperform meme tokens." "These tokens power blockchain operating systems, similar to Microsoft Windows, that enable developers to build applications like decentralized exchanges and Web3 platforms on top of them, creating networks with value."
