Seeing the June CPI print with a negative sign. You can be pretty sure now that Fed rate cuts are coming. Core CPI for the past three months annualized is now running just 1.1%. In fact, core goods prices have dropped 12 out of the past 13 months in the CPI. We could actually be at a pretty nice economic inflection point right now--but only if the labor market doesn't keep slowing.

U.S. crude oil prices fell for the third straight session on Tuesday, as Gulf Coast oil infrastructure appears to have avoided any substantial damage from Tropical Storm Beryl. On Monday, Beryl made landfall in Matagorda, Texas, as a Category 1 hurricane but later weakened into a tropical storm. Beryl has moved inland as a tropical depression and is now north of Shreveport, Louisiana, according to the National Hurricane Center. U.S. oil inventories fell by 12.2 million barrels for the week ended June 28, and gasoline stocks declined by 2.2 million barrels in a potential bullish sign for the market. Macquarie, however, is forecasting that oil inventories dropped by 1.2 million barrels last week, with the total balance "only modestly tighter than we had anticipated," according to a Monday note.

"Those are all true," responded Williams, who won 23 Grand Slam singles titles and 73 career singles titles during her 27-year career. Read previewSpeculation has been growing that North Korea could send troops to Ukraine. As of now, the prospect of North Korean soldiers being deployed to Ukraine is speculative and unlikely, experts told Business Insider. "Given what we know about nutrition in North Korea, even in the army, they might have issues," he told BI. But if it does, he added that North Korean soldiers may "simply" be helping rebuild a destroyed city like Mariupol. Bennett, from RAND, said he thinks it is "fairly likely" that North Korea will send troops to Ukraine, without elaborating further.

London CNN —A British startup may have found the answer to one of the frustrations of driving an electric car — waiting around for the battery to charge. That is much faster than the 20 minutes or so it currently takes some electric cars using a fast charger, such as a Tesla (TSLA) Supercharger. Nyobolt’s battery is compatible with a Supercharger, the startup told CNN. “This is many multiples higher than the warranties of much larger EV batteries on the road today,” it noted. In addition, there are currently “a lot of unknowns” with the niobium battery technology, he told CNN.

CNN —Top advisers to Donald Trump are plotting an overhaul of the Republican Party platform that will dramatically slash its size and refocus the GOP around the former president’s agenda for a second term. A memo from Trump campaign managers Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles dated Thursday criticized past platforms as too long and too heavily influenced by special interests and outside groups. A “clear, concise and easily digestible” platform will be easier for voters to understand and harder for political opponents to attack, they wrote. Trump’s campaign is especially aware of how Democrats have weaponized the GOP platform in the past and is seeking to avoid a lengthy document full of potential landmines for the former president to navigate. Already, Trump this year has ousted the party’s previous chair, Ronna McDaniel, and installed close allies atop the GOP — his daughter-in-law Lara Trump and North Carolina GOP leader Michael Whatley.

People worried about bills, feeling overwhelmed about overspending or concerned about money management may expect a “money talk” to lead to an argument, so they avoid bringing up the topic, according to a report from researchers at Cornell University and Yale University, published this month in The Journal of Consumer Psychology. Yet prior research has found that communicating about money helps couples spend more responsibly and better manage their debt. Why is it so difficult for some people to talk about money with their partners in the first place?
