CNN —Russia’s pro-Kremlin media know how to create an alternative reality, and last week’s historic prisoner swap was no exception. On Monday, Russian state-backed media outlets treated viewers to lurid footage of the arrests of Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich and former US Marine Paul Whelan. And we see a handcuffed Paul Whelan on a hotel bed, flanked by Russian security officers. But in the cases of Gershkovich and Whelan, the aim of the Russian state was to build a bank of human collateral to trade for its valued agents held abroad. But the good news is that Gershkovich is out of Russian custody and can now write the definitive and reliable account of what happened during his arrest.

Under the new passport-less immigration program, Singapore residents will not need to show their passports to arrive and depart at air and sea checkpoints. Foreign travelers must also enroll their iris, facial and fingerprint biometrics at manual immigration counters, according to Singapore's Immigration & Checkpoints Authority. However, children under six years old cannot use biometric clearance, or automated lanes at all, to clear immigration, according to authorities. By early 2026, Singapore immigration officials expect 95% of travelers will be able to clear immigration via automated lanes. Biometric processing is expected to reduce immigration wait times by 40%, according to immigration officials.

After a rule recently imposed by Israel, however, I’m no longer allowed to lend my medical expertise to help in Gaza. The medical mission I was part of, sponsored by an aid group called ‘FAJR’ Scientific, took place at the European Gaza hospital in Khan Younis, a facility that has since been evacuated. AFP/Getty ImagesI was born in a refugee camp in Gaza four years into the first Palestinian Intifada. Israeli policy has made giving back impossible, however. The denial of a Palestinian doctor’s right to volunteer — in the process hindering the delivery of humanitarian efforts — is an affront.

Anything above 4% indicates the market is overbought, anything below a minus 5% means the market is oversold.) I am just prematurely predicting other investors fleeing the stock because they think Warren knows more than them. Many investors thought that Amazon was the best set up of the Mag Seven going into earnings. We are right smack in a most perilous moment because the Fed doesn't want to move too fast but the stock market does and the Fed does not care about that. Among all of the atrocities of war, it’s the broken and bloodied children that devastate doctors working in Gaza. “Nowhere is safe.”The trauma is compounded because Gazan health care workers’ homes and families have been directly affected by the ongoing conflict. Saieh reported that more than 14,000 Palestinian children have been killed since October and that more than 20,000 are missing. “This includes children who have been separated from their families and are unaccompanied, children who are trapped under the rubble and presumed dead, children who have been buried in unmarked mass graves,” she said. CNN —Famine has officially been declared in at least one refugee camp sheltering hundreds of thousands of people in the Darfur region of Sudan, food security organizations announced, a stark warning of the cost being paid by the population after 15 months of civil war. Famine has been ongoing in the Zanzam camp near the city of El Fasher since June, according to the United Nations-backed Famine Review Committee (FRC). The last time the FRC declared a famine was in 2017, when 80,000 people in South Sudan faced famine conditions in parts of Unity State after three years of civil war. Although this was also limited to the Zanzam camp, it warned famine could spread across the rest of El Fasher, which is home to an additional estimated 800,000 people. Both groups warned the famine at Zanzam is likely to last at least until October and potentially much longer.

New York CNN —Google has pulled its controversial Olympics ad after critics blasted it for portraying what they called a bleak application of artificial intelligence. The ad showed a father using Google’s Gemini AI chatbot to help his daughter write a fan letter to US Olympic track star Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone. But many online questioned why Google would want to replace a child’s creativity with words written by a computer. Google initially defended the ad, which ran during breaks from the Olympics, saying it showed how Gemini could provide a “starting point” for a piece of writing. “While the ad tested well before airing, given the feedback, we have decided to phase the ad out of our Olympics rotation,” a Google spokesperson said in a statement.

As president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro was often called the Trump of the Tropics, an association the Bolsonaro family actively cultivated. From the moment he was elected in 2018, he loudly celebrated the United States — in his first year in office, he even saluted the U.S. flag — but he saved his most intense loyalty for one American. For decades, the Brazilian right had looked to the United States, and when Donald Trump began to transform the rules of political discourse, it took note. We realized we could take a tougher stand against the left-wing transformation taking place across our continent.”As president, Bolsonaro seemed eager to import as much of the MAGA movement to Brazil as possible. So when Trump supporters attacked the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, to protest a “stolen” election, many Brazilians worried that Bolsonaro supporters might try something similar.

Earlier this week, another product contending for the future of AI companionship made its debut: an eavesdropping necklace called Friend. AdvertisementSchiffmann's original vision for an AI hardware device was a pendant that would act as a more standard-fare AI assistant called Tab — he once described it as a "wearable mom." Of the many AI hardware devices that launched in recent months, such as Humane's AI pin, Meta's smart glasses, and Rabbit's AI-powered R1, Friend is the most personal contender. In fact, on the day Friend launched, a competing AI hardware founder named Nik Shevchenko released a diss track — as any self-respecting 23-year-old AI hardware founder would do — insinuating that Schiffmann stole his idea. (It would not be the first time that Shevchenko built an open source competitor that closely resembled another AI hardware device.

Among those headed back to Russia are convicted hackers and several Russian nationals detained in the West for spying. And the biggest prize for Russia was the return of Vadim Krasikov, a convicted hitman whose release had been publicly sought by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Anna Chapman, one of 10 Russian sleeper agents deported from the US in a 2010 prisoner swap, was also feted on her return to Russia. Britain blamed the poisoning on Russia; Russia has consistently denied involvement, although Putin referred to Skripal as a “scumbag” and a “traitor,” his contempt suggesting that Skripal had gotten his just desserts. The release of Russians in the swap means that Russia’s political climate is no less repressive.

The analysis, published July 12 in the journal Science, showed that the two groups exchanged DNA at multiple points over the past 250,000 years, shedding light on how Neanderthals disappeared and potentially rewriting the story of how and when our Homo sapiens ancestors left Africa. Genetic detective workDuring the two earlier waves of interbreeding, the Neanderthal population absorbed human genes and the offspring stayed within Neanderthal groups, according to the new study. Russian archeologists digging inside Denisova cave located in the the Altai mountains that's been home to Neanderthals, early modern humans and the Denisovans. A skull found in Qafzeh Israel is believed to have belonged to an early modern human. To give hypocrisy a pass, one might argue, is to slide down a slope toward having no principles at all. In these merciless political times we should focus our minds on the true betrayals that really matter.

A major change is coming to Taco Bell drive-thrus
