Elon Musk bought a horse farm in Texas near Tesla's Gigafactory, author Walter Isaacson wrote. The biographer said Musk envisioned a house that looked like "something fell out of space." The Wall Street Journal has reported Musk was building a glass house, but he has denied the reports. "He needs a place where his sole resides and that's what the horse farm will be for him." REUTERS/Angelika Warmuth/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsMEXICO CITY, Sept 11 (Reuters) - A state governor in Mexico said on Monday that Tesla (TSLA.O) and its suppliers would invest $15 billion over the next two years in a factory that is still under construction, an amount that is triple what Mexican officials previously announced. In March, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said his company would open a gigafactory in northern Nuevo Leon state, part of the electric carmaker's push to expand its global footprint. At the time, Musk did not detail Tesla's investment, but Mexican officials said the factory would involve a $5 billion investment. Speaking at an event, Nuevo Leon Governor Samuel Garcia said the facility will now involve thrice that amount. Neither Tesla's press office nor Nuevo Leon officials responded after hours to a request for comment on the governor's comments.

REUTERS/Carlos Osorio/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsSept 12 (Reuters) - The Canadian government will take 20 years to recoup the combined C$28.2 billion ($21 billion) subsidies it is offering Volkswagen and Stellantis-LG Electric Solutions (STLAM.MI), to build two electric vehicle (EV) battery plants, the country's budgetary watchdog said on Tuesday. Parliamentary Budget Officer Yves Giroux projected that the combined revenue generated from the two plants would only match the production subsidies by 2043, if production starts in 2024. In May, Stellantis stopped constructing its EV battery plant in Windsor, Ontario, saying the Canadian government did not deliver on the committed subsidies. The dispute was resolved after two months of bargaining when the government agreed to provide subsidies similar to the one it gave Volkswagen.

The meeting went sideways, according to Walter Isaacson’s new biography, “Elon Musk,” which hits stores Tuesday. “Hey, I’d love to come see you and talk about philanthropy and climate,” Gates texted Musk in 2022, Isaacson wrote. “Most philanthropy was “bulls—,” Musk told Gates, estimating only 20 cents of each dollar made a difference that way. Gates could “do more good for climate change by investing in Tesla,” Musk said, according to Isaacson. When Gates sent documentation about his philanthropic work and followed up with a text to Musk, Musk asked if he was still holding a short bet against Tesla.

Bly, however, did not specify whether the group planned to build more gigafactories on top of those already announced to expand the capacity. As part of its effort to boost capacity, Stellantis on Friday said it had invested 40 million euros ($43 million) in its Turin's Battery Technology Center, in the Mirafiori complex, which will be focused on in-house testing and development of EV battery packs for upcoming group vehicles. More than 100 people will be employed in the Turin's Battery Technology Center, mostly retrained Stellantis workers, the group said adding that a similar facility for North America was being built in Windsor, Canada.

Hong Kong CNN —Tesla is back to cutting prices in China, and investors don’t seem happy about it. The manufacturer announced a significant discount for its Model Y in China on Monday, saying two models would be discounted by 14,000 yuan ($1,929) effective immediately. The price cuts, Tesla’s first since January, reflect rising competition in China, particularly within its fast-moving electric vehicle sector. Tesla slashed prices several times in China between October and January after losing market share. In May, the company had reversed course, hiking prices globally, with the biggest increase made in China.
