With the presidential election approaching, experts are sounding alarms about the upcoming expiration of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, or TCJA. Without action from Congress, trillions in tax breaks enacted by former President Donald Trump via the TCJA will expire after 2025. "If the 2017 tax cuts are allowed to expire after 2025, about 62% of taxpayers would see their tax bills go up," said Erica York, senior economist and research director at the Tax Foundation. "That's because the TCJA provided tax cuts for the vast majority of taxpayers." Both Trump, the Republican presidential candidate, and Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic candidate, have called for tax changes that could affect millions of Americans.

Data analytics and decision-makingIn the digital economy, data is gold. Those organizations that leverage data and data analytics well can improve the customer experience and move out in front of competitors. With advancements in data analytics, companies can take advantage of real-time data processing, predictive analytics, and AI-powered analytics to make informed decisions quickly, Gilchrist said. The New Orleans guaranteed basic income pilot was a collaboration between Mayor LaToya Cantrell's Office of Youth and Families and the national advocacy network Mayors for a Guaranteed Income (MGI). CNN —Car manufacturer Stellantis is recalling more than 1.2 million Ram 1500 vehicles due to a software malfunction in the anti-lock brake system (ABS), according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The vehicles being recalled include certain 2019, 2021-2024 Ram 1500 trucks, the NHTSA said Saturday in a statement. Also, the ABS, ESC, Adaptive Cruise Control and Forward Collision Warning indicator lights would illuminate when the vehicle started up to show the systems are unavailable. Dealers will update the ABS software for free of charge. The recall comes after a similar recall in June that affected almost 158,000 Ram 2500 pick ups.

The kind of support Jacob needs, including having someone available 24 hours a day, is upward of $9,000 a month. With this in mind, we knew we could not afford to have Jacob living in the facility. So, my wife and I instead considered building an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) in our backyard. One of these, Independent Living Services (ILS), provides a set number of hours a week for in-home assistance with Jacob. After moving out, he qualifies for Supported Living Services (SLS), which expands the number of hours he can get in-home support.

That continues a trend from 2023, when generative AI companies raised $25.9 billion for the full year, up more than 200% from 2022. The average round for AI companies is 140% bigger this year compared with last, the data shows, while for non-AI companies the increase is only 10%. Most venture investors are bullish on the potential for generative AI to eventually create big returns at the application layer. John-David Lovelock, an analyst at Gartner and a 35-year veteran of the IT industry, sees a big opportunity for generative AI in the enterprise. Yet, in 2024, only 1% of the trillion dollars spent on software will be from businesses spending on generative AI products, he said.

A judge in Kentucky has dismissed core charges against two former Louisville police officials involved in the raid that ended in Breonna Taylor's death. Judge Charles R. Simpson III of western Kentucky's U.S. District Court on Thursday said Taylor's death was triggered by the actions of her boyfriend, who opened fire when police arrived outside her Louisville apartment March 13, 2020. "Those violations resulted in Ms. Taylor’s death," he said in a statement at the time. Jaynes and Meany weren't at the raid, and her death was more directly tied to Walker's decision to open fire, the judge wrote. "The Court finds that the warrantless entry was not the actual cause of Taylor’s death," he wrote in his decision.

In fiscal 2022 and 2023 combined, Disney's experiences unit, which houses the parks, generated 67.5% of the company's operating income. That represents a significant deceleration in growth from its first and second quarters, when operating income rose 8% and 12%, respectively. Nispel argued that negative sentiment around Disney's theme parks performance could be a reason to have less conviction on the stock in the near term. The more excitement around its movies, the more interest in everything from theme parks to streaming services to branded merchandise. Operating income, in particular, rose more than $350 million year over year to $254 million.

As AI developers wait to test GPT-5, some have found a new way to bootstrap their way to more advanced AI without an entirely new model. Fewer idle GPUs then translate to more affordable computing, as Davis explained on the No Priors podcast released Thursday. When Davis and his co-authors used the compound AI method, the layered model produced the correct answer 37% of the time — a nearly 10-fold increase. While locking their credit won't solve all cybersecurity issues related to stolen Social Security numbers, it's one extra layer of protection parents can implement. Parents can take these steps proactively even if there's nothing to suggest a minor's credit has been compromised such as unexpected credit card solicitations or bills received in the minor's name. It can take some time and effort to lock a child's credit, but the outlay is minimal compared with what can be a lengthy and emotional credit restoration process. Locking a child's credit won't protect against all of these, but it's a solid step in the right direction, financial professionals said. To check to see if their child has a credit report, parents can mail a letter with their request to each of the credit bureaus.
