“It is time for the war to end,” the statement, shared with CNN, bluntly says. We call on Hamas to close this agreement, that Israel is ready to move forward with, and begin the process of releasing our citizens,” the statement says. Those 17 countries have citizens whom Hamas took captive at the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war. Immediately after Biden detailed the Israeli proposal, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed that his country would not end the war until Hamas was defeated. Jake Sullivan, Biden’s national security adviser, convened for the first time last month an in-person meeting of ambassadors and chiefs of mission representing countries whose citizens were taken hostage by Hamas, CNN reported, at a moment when a deal was stalled.

My husband and I each speak our native languages to the kids, and they learn German from day care and school. It's fantastic that they're growing up with three languages, but sometimes having multiple languages can present some quandaries when it comes to finding baby names. One classic example is that certain letters sound different in various languages, such as the letter "j," which makes a "y" sound in languages like Spanish and German but a "djuh" sound in English. As a result, names like Jonas or Juliana may not sound quite the same in different languages. You can also test out names in various languages if you're unsure how they'll be received by talking directly to native speakers.

The scary secret behind the boom in data centers
  + stars: | 2024-06-04 | by ( Adam Rogers | ) www.businessinsider.com   time to read: +10 min
Last year all the data centers in the world had room for 10.1 zettabytes of information — roughly 456 billion Wikipedias. And with the rise of artificial intelligence, which requires vast quantities of data and power, the global capacity of data centers is expected to double by 2027. Data centers are more than just vast digital warehouses. The more data centers those companies have, the more of those services they can offer, and the more storage and number-crunching capacity they can provide. Over time, economists warn, AI startups will inevitably lose out to the tech giants that control the data centers.

Carol Tan, Rakcent Wong and their son, Atlas, have traveled across 23 countries and counting since the start of 2024. Carol Tan, 36, and Rakcent Wong, 35, often received that age-old advice before having their son, Atlas — but they were determined to prove the naysayers wrong. The Singaporean family took a sabbatical from work to "worldschool" their 4-year-old child and has traveled from Switzerland to Denmark to Nepal, across 23 countries since the start of the year. "We realized [that] after every trip, we always gained something — there's some kind of growth and transformation that we experience, just both on a personal level and as a couple," Wong said. By January 2024, Tan and Wong began their work sabbaticals, took Atlas out of school and the family traveled to their first destination — Greece.

If true, the loss of a Polish shopping center by means of Russian arson would be shocking on its own. As NATO advances toward the July summit, it's become clear that more comprehensive discussions on addressing the Russian sabotage campaign must take place. Some of the earliest identified acts of Russian sabotage occurred in 2014 at ammunition depots in the Czech Republic killing two and causing $42.5 million in damage. One of Sweden's oldest burger chains wants its customers to stop eating so much red meat. Beef has the largest climate impact of any food, largely because cows burp methane and need vast amounts of land. Since then, Max Burgers has labeled menu items with their carbon footprints and started offering a lot more chicken and plant-based burgers. He added that because Max Burgers is family-owned, it can take more risks than publicly-traded fast food chains worried about their stock price. In 2016, the company quintupled its plant-based options, Török said, including a "green burger" that's been changed several times.

When mortgage rates shoot up, as they did over the past two years, many would-be sellers decide they don't want to move after all. AdvertisementAs the Federal Reserve began pushing up borrowing rates in the spring of 2022, hoping to reel in rising inflation, mortgage rates went vertical. So far, this system of pooling together mortgage bonds and selling them to investors is pretty close to the American way of doing things. When US homeowners pay off their mortgages, they have only one option: pony up the amount left on the loan. That's not just good for buyers or sellers or mortgage loan officers — it's good for everyone.

CNN —Ukraine should be allowed to use French weapons, including long-range missiles, against targets inside Russia from which Moscow attacks Ukraine, French President Emmanuel Macron said Monday. Macron stressed that the French arms are to be used only against targets from which attacks are launched into Ukraine. “We must not allow them to hit other targets in Russia,” including civilian or other military targets, the French leader said. The BackgroundFluoride strengthens tooth enamel, and research suggests that drinking water with added fluoride can reduce cavities by up to 25 percent. Most of the women lived in areas with fluoridated water. The researchers measured the fluoride levels in their urine in a single test during the third trimester. And on average, higher fluoride levels in the mothers’ urine were correlated with a greater risk of behavioral problems in the children. That said, the increases in behavioral scores were relatively small — about two points on a scale from 28 to 100 for overall behavioral problems.

Washington CNN —President Joe Biden’s national security adviser Jake Sullivan convened for the first time this week an in-person meeting of ambassadors and chiefs of mission representing countries whose citizens were taken hostage by Hamas on October 7, CNN has learned, as a ceasefire and hostages release deal remains stalled. Those 17 countries, along with the United States, have citizens whom Hamas took captive at the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war. The meeting comes at a critical moment when the efforts to secure the release of hostages and Gaza ceasefire appear to have stalled once again. Multiple US diplomats have told CNN in recent weeks that they are consistently hearing those concerns from their counterparts abroad.
