Sharif and opposition leader Raja Riaz will meet in the afternoon, said the official in the prime minister's office, who declined to be identified pending the announcement of the meeting. Under the constitution, the two have three days to reach agreement on a caretaker. If they can't, the decision will go to a parliamentary committee, and if it can't, then the Election Commission of Pakistan will decide. Backstage at the Kennedy Center, as business leaders in bespoke suits and fine silk saris filtered into a 1,200-seat theater, Mr. Modi met with a handful of entrepreneurs. Mr. Modi tapped Mr. Sachdev’s shoulder and exclaimed “waah,” or wow in Hindi. With an emphasis on national pride, Mr. Modi and his conservative Hindu-first Bharatiya Janata Party have cultivated a surprisingly strong relationship with India’s successful diaspora. The bond has been strengthened by a global political machine, supercharged under Mr. Modi with party offices in dozens of countries and thousands of volunteers. And it has allowed Mr. Modi to fuse his own image — and his rubric of elevating India — with superstar executives and powerful, often more liberal constituencies in the United States, Britain, Australia and many other nations.

To the Editor:Re “When Protesters Take Aim at Art” (Arts, July 12):Nobody wants art museums to become fortresses; they are a precious public good. As such, to remain relevant and credible, museums must engage with the concerns of their constituencies — as they generally seek to do. The climate crisis, however, has been slow to receive curatorial attention, even though it is a front and center concern in most U.S. communities. For example, a bipartisan supermajority of American adults, like museum protesters, want to see transformational government action on climate change, away from burning fossil fuels. Museums’ popularity and great public trust mean that they can move the needle significantly on climate engagement in our culture.

The first parts of a Russian S-400 system are unloaded at an airport near Ankara in July 2019. Turkey's S-400 lacks that integration, as it hasn't been connected to NATO's radar network because alliance members fear that doing so could expose other systems to Russian observation. That made Russia's S-400 seem like not only a valid alternative but a preferable option to the US-made Patriot missile-defense system. (The US withdrew Patriot batteries from Turkey in late 2015, adding to Turkish concerns and desire for another air-defense system.) After the initial signing, the deal went into limbo over reported political disagreements and Turkey never received the system.

CNN —President Joe Biden might have a Kennedy problem. There are many reasons Kennedy might cause trouble for Biden. At the end of last year, Biden switched the Democratic primary schedule to put South Carolina first. As a result, Biden might not even appear on the New Hampshire ballot, effectively ceding the state to Kennedy and author and speaker Marianne Williamson. Many of Biden’s 2020 supporters are frustrated with the president, and any attacks Kennedy will unleash could damage Biden and provide a foundation for Republicans to go after him in the campaign.

Belief in the lie may have buoyed some of Trump supporters’ self-esteem. If we have a good election year overall, we have a very good chance at Democrats holding the Senate. There are, needless to say, a host of uncertainties. As a general rule, the higher these issues rank in voters’ priorities, the better Republicans do. In that respect, the success of conservatives in barring the use of race in college admissions has taken a Republican issue off the table.
