June 28 (Reuters) - The U.S. women's national soccer team will receive the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage at next month's ESPYs in recognition of their fight for equal pay with their male counterparts, ESPN said on Wednesday. In May 2022, the U.S. women's and men's soccer teams reached landmark collective bargaining agreements with the national governing body for the sport that will see players receive equal pay and prize money, including at World Cups. "It feels like this is a paradigm shift or a moment we'll look back to and say that nothing was ever the same after this Women's World Cup," U.S. forward Megan Rapinoe said on Tuesday. The ESPYs, which pay tribute to the top athletes and performances of the past year, are presented and televised by Walt Disney Co (DIS.N) sports network ESPN. CNN —Frances Tiafoe has become just the third Black American to break into the men’s top 10 after winning his third career title in Stuttgart on Sunday. Speaking to reporters after his nail-biting 4-6 7-6(1) 7-6(8) win over German Jan-Lennard Struff, Tiafoe said he was “super emotional” after moving to 10th in the world rankings. “I’m a guy who shouldn’t even really be here doing half the things he’s doing,” Tiafoe said. “Hopefully, I can ride that for a long time.”Tiafoe has been heralded as the potential future of men’s tennis in the US and he’s starting to fulfil those expectations. His father, Constant Tiafoe, started working at the Junior Tennis Champions Center in Washington, D.C. back in 1999 and eventually moved into one of its vacant storage rooms while working around the clock.

The Met Gala for dogs, otherwise known as the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, took place on Tuesday. Best in show went to Buddy Holly, a “fetchingly bewhiskered” petit basset griffon Vendéen. Although our Most Styles-ish roundups usually highlight adventurous fashion moments among humans, we decided to extend the same courtesy to our canine compatriots on their big night. The nine dogs recognized below may not have won, but they captured our attention out of a field of more than 2,500 competitors. We may not be qualified to judge a dog show, but we know flair when we see it.

It still isn’t Madison Square Garden, but at least the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show is back in New York City. Just a 7 train ride away from Midtown, champion dogs invaded the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, Queens, this weekend for the 147th edition of the competition, which organizers claim is the second oldest continuously held sporting event in the United States. The very good dogs (they are all very good dogs) competed in agility and obedience championships over the weekend before moving to two days of judging to determine the best in each breed and group and, of course, best in show, which will be judged Tuesday night in Arthur Ashe Stadium.

President Biden could borrow from the nation’s success in protecting ducks. The executive branch has plenty of discretionary authority to regulate federal lands, including the ability to restrict firearms possession in many areas (a power it now uses to restrict guns in courthouses, post offices and many national parks and on other federal lands). It can and should prohibit shooting assault weapons or any firearms capable of shooting more than five or 10 rounds, without reloading, on federal land, or at any public shooting range that receives federal funding or is under federal license. The challenge for the president will be to overcome a gun culture that permeates federal land-managing agencies and their state counterparts. He can also ask the major hunting, fishing and conservation organizations, like the Boone and Crockett Club, Ducks Unlimited and the National Wildlife Federation, to urge state wildlife agencies to ban assault weapons for any hunting.

Epic Games, the developer and publisher of the video game Fornite, will pay $520 million in fines to settle with the FTC over violations of the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Epic will pay two fines, including a $245 million fine against Fortnite's in-game store and refund systems, and another $275 million fine to address child privacy concerns. Despite the deliberate decision to market to children, the FTC said Epic failed to "cure," or address, COPPA violations. "All the while, kids have been bullied, threatened, and harassed, including sexually, through Fortnite," the FTC complaint read. Only in 2019, "long after Epic obtained empirical evidence pointing to large numbers of Fortnite players" under the age of 13, did Epic introduce an age verification system.
