But So the better profit came not from increasing sales but from success in cutting its cost to build vehicles. Tesla has been leading a price war in the electric vehicle sector, as a response to increased competition, especially from Chinese automakers. Investors had previously sold off Tesla shares (TSLA), disappointed by lack of details at a company event on plans for self-driving robotaxis. For the quarter Tesla earned $2.5 billion in the quarter, or 72 cents a share, up 8% from a year ago.

Smith, 61, of West Palm Beach, Florida, was the romantic partner of former Abercrombie & Fitch CEO Mike Jeffries. Abercrombie & Fitch said it was “appalled” by the allegations and launched an independent investigation into the matter. New York CNN —Rupert Murdoch’s Dow Jones, the parent company of the Wall Street Journal, and the New York Post sued Perplexity on Monday, accusing the generative AI company of illegally scraping its reporting and diverting traffic to its own platforms. The News Corp-owned companies accused Perplexity of training its so-called answer machine with copyrighted material, using scraped human-created news content to generate responses to users’ questions, allowing them to circumvent the publishers’ websites. “Perplexity proudly states that users can ‘skip the links’ — apparently, Perplexity wants to skip the check.”A Perplexity spokesperson did not immediately respond to a CNN request for comment. Earlier this year, News Corp inked a massive deal with ChatGPT creator OpenAI, licensing its news content in an agreement reported to be worth more than $250 million. The Times also sued OpenAI last year for copyright infringement, accusing the company of using its reporting to train its chatbots without permission, claiming billions of dollars in damages.

New York CNN —When X unveiled its newest terms of service, which go into effect on November 15, users quickly picked up on one change. Using content to train AI has become a major issue as the technology booms. On X, artists and others in creative roles are fretting about their work being used – not just on X – to train computers that could someday replace human creators entirely. Other X users say they are concerned about personal information in their tweets being used that way. X’s terms said any users who continue to use their products or services on or after November 15 would be agreeing to the updated terms.

The price increase was approved Saturday at a National Council meeting, where 900 delegates were present to discuss the Girl Scouts’ future. They voted to hike dues to $45 for the 2026 membership year and again to $65 in 2027. Dues will remain at $25 for 2025, which has been the same price for the program for eight years. Membership dues are the Girl Scout’s largest source of revenue, generating $38 million in 2023 from its nearly 2 million total members. “It’s an enormous increase,” said Sally Bertram, a 30-year troop leader with the Girl Scouts of Western Ohio.
