That will be the case in this jam-packed week , with the earnings from Microsoft on Tuesday, Meta Platforms on Wednesday, and Apple and Amazon on Thursday. If Alphabet said it cut back on data-center spending, then it would be alleged the company is falling behind Amazon and Microsoft in the AI race. The company also is now dogged by another competitor in search engines after ChatGPT creator OpenAI announced a prototype of SearchGPT . Apple reports on Thursday, and if you think the cloud-computing heavyweights are spending on too much AI, then you should be buying Apple. President Joe Biden always chose to have his agencies wear down tech companies.

Democrats have used Mr. Vance’s turnabout to paint him as untrustworthy, while Republicans have described his shift as another sign of Mr. Trump’s influence on the party. Whatever the case, Mr. Vance’s U-turn was a gradual one that played out in stages during the past eight years. In many ways, Mr. Vance’s life has echoed the theme of change. He has been unapologetic about his political change of heart, even weaponizing his flip-flop by blaming the news media for distorting voters’ views of Mr. Trump. “I was critical of President Trump,” Mr. Vance said this week in Ohio.

While Trump insists he's sticking with Vance, the senator's poor polling combined with Vice President Kamala Harris' momentum has led some to ask: Could Trump replace Vance? The Democratic and Republican National Committees have separate rules governing how they fill vacancies of presidential or vice presidential nominees. Before last week’s Republican convention, Donald Trump seemed to be moving away from the populism that characterized his 2016 campaign. “He’s defending big business, cozying up to billionaires, and wooing C.E.O.s.”When Mr. Trump named Senator JD Vance of Ohio as his running mate, though, pundits quickly concluded that he was doubling down on populism. In his convention speech, Mr. Vance denounced NAFTA and China trade deals and promised to prioritize American workers over multinational corporations. On the other hand, in a long interview with Bloomberg (conducted in late June) that came out after the announcement of Mr. Vance’s selection, Mr. Trump hardly sounded like a firebrand economic populist. He floated the idea of reducing corporate tax rates to 15 percent and said he’d consider the JPMorgan Chase C.E.O., Jamie Dimon, as a potential Treasury secretary.

"If you own many stocks of international companies and you want to vote your portfolio, Harris is more likely to help than hurt. After President Joe Biden bowed out of the 2024 race, he backed Vice President Harris for the Democratic nomination. According to Cramer, Biden seemed to hold the belief that "big business is bad business," but Harris may have a "more nuanced approach." Democrats have taken an unprecedented risk in pushing President Joe Biden out of the 2024 race. Biden was well on his way to becoming a one-term president. Needing a way to upend the race, Biden's campaign gambled on scheduling the earliest major presidential debate in history. Democrats' crescendoing calls for Biden to step aside on Friday, with at least nine saying Biden should step aside in just one day, underlined how untenable the situation had become. As Atlantic editor Ron Brownstein has pointed out, based on future Senate maps, Democrats could be facing years in the minority.

The selection of Senator JD Vance of Ohio as his running mate suggests that the answer is yes. Even the most successful political parties are coalitions of odd bedfellows and competing interests. The Republican Party we saw in Milwaukee this past week has been fundamentally changed. With Mr. Vance at his back, leading a new counterestablishment that Mr. Vance helped shape, Mr. Trump has cemented his legacy — and transformed the Republican Party. Until recently, there was no counterestablishment in the Republican Party.

It’s a bad time to be a finance billionaire. Republicans on Wall Street, who had been largely coalescing around former President Donald J. Trump’s efforts to return to office, suffered outright repudiation this week with his pick of Senator JD Vance of Ohio as a running mate. Mr. Vance, a harsh critic of corporate interests and a former venture capitalist, solidified a feeling in the world of high finance that the balance of power in the party had suddenly shifted westward to Silicon Valley. In choosing Mr. Vance, Mr. Trump brushed off personal entreaties from some of the Republican Party’s biggest donors. While accepting his nomination on Wednesday at the Republican convention in Milwaukee, he said the party was done “catering to Wall Street.”

J.D. Vance Becomes Trump’s New Apprentice

Speaking Wednesday at the Republican National Convention, Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio became the latest, and potentially most consequential, of Donald J. Trump’s apprentices to accept the position in prime time. For years as the host of “The Apprentice,” Mr. Trump picked out protégés from boardrooms full of young supplicants. Offend him and you might be dismissed; appear too thirsty and you could get the boot as well. Mr. Vance spent much of his two years in the Senate auditioning for the promotion to vice-presidential nominee, cultivating a relationship, apologizing for his Never-Trumper apostasy and recently blaming Biden campaign rhetoric for leading “directly” to the assassination attempt against Mr. Trump.

President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump couldn't be farther apart when it comes to climate action. Trump and his pick for vice president, Sen. JD Vance of Ohio, are both climate deniers. By contrast, the Democrats unveiled a platform that said it would build on the Biden administration's unprecedented spending on renewable energy and the green workforce while cracking down on the oil-and-gas industry. The center conducted the survey with the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication. The majority of Americans support climate actionMaibach said the shift among Republicans shouldn't distract from the fact that the majority of Americans support many of Biden's climate policies.

JD Vance — a Marine veteran, author, and once-critic of the former president — as his running mate for the 2024 election. Military.com could not find any evidence that any vice president served in the Marine Corps . Donald Trump elevated JD Vance to the national stage as his running mate on Monday — and Ukraine is likely worried. Read previewSen. JD Vance of Ohio on Wednesday railed against decades of American policy in his major national moment as the Republican vice presidential nominee. Like former President Donald Trump, Vance underlined a populist Republican Party to the point that he came out to a Merle Haggard hit that was written in protest of the war in Iraq. In selecting Vance, Trump eschewed the traditional considerations in finding a running mate. "He chose to endure abuse, slander, and persecution, and he did it because he loves this country," Vance said. Today, I’m looking at how the Republican National Convention has become a conversion story. His long history of disparaging Trump, whom he has called an “idiot” and “cultural heroin,” does not make him less suited for elevation within his party. Rather, it makes him a better avatar for the tale Trump wants to tell. Vance is a political convert, whose remaking of himself and his political image in order to thrive in Trump’s Republican Party proves and reinforces Trump’s power. And he will serve as a capstone for a convention that has been a conversion story unto itself.
