Tella seems focused on Saints despite Clarets' freedom campaign

SOUTHAMPTON, England, Aug 2 (Reuters) - Coveted striker Nathan Tella seemed only to be thinking about his Southampton future on Wednesday, while a bizarre campaign to reunite him with Burnley continued on social media. His parent club Southampton went the other way, dropping into the second-tier Championship at the end of a dismal campaign. Tella is now back at Saints but Burnley want him back, with chairman Alan Pace reposting a "Free Nathan Tella" video his daughter had posted on Instagram. loadingThe video, set against a soundtrack of The Specials’ Free Nelson Mandela song, begins with text reading "Free Nathan Tella" before showing Pace's daughter pinning several posters surrounding the club's stadium. Responds to ‘Nathan Tella baby’.

WELLINGTON, July 27 (Reuters) - The United States have yet to produce their best performance at the Women's World Cup, coach Vlatko Andonovski said on Thursday, after the Netherlands held them to a frustrating 1-1 draw in their second match of the tournament in Wellington. It was the first World Cup draw that the United States have seen since Sweden held them 0-0 at the tournament in 2015. I've said this before, this team is not just young, this team is also a fresh team," said Andonovski. "We're just going to get better from game to game and we're going to be a lot more efficient as well." The United States close out their Group E against Portugal on Tuesday.

Bennett would win Grammys for his tributes to female vocalists ("Here's to the Ladies"), Billie Holiday ("Tony Bennett on Holiday"), and Duke Ellington ("Bennett Sings Ellington — Hot & Cool"). "But of course, if they [cluster munitions] are used against us, we reserve the right to tit-for-tat actions," the president said. Though not banned by the United States, Russia or Ukraine, cluster bombs are outlawed in over 100 countries under a global pact, the Convention on Cluster Munitions, because of the danger they pose to civilians. The United Nations called on the warring parties to immediately cease all use of cluster munitions. Up to 40% of cluster munitions fail to explode on impact, the U.N. said, which allows for "decades of intermittent detonations." They add that cluster munitions could be a critical factor in determining the outcome of the conflict.

CNN —Trinity Rodman scored twice as the United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) beat Wales 2-0 on Sunday in its final warmup game before the Women’s World Cup. Rodman, the daughter of NBA legend Dennis Rodman, came on as a second half substitute before scoring a brace late in the game. In 2021, Rodman made history after becoming the youngest woman ever selected in the NWSL draft. She was named NWSL Rookie of the Year later that year as she helped her team lift the NWSL title. Rodman made her highly-anticipated debut for the national team in 2022 and is part of a new generation of players looking to cement the USWNT’s legacy as the greatest team in women’s soccer.

The economy is forecast to weaken further as the impact of 525 basis points of RBNZ rate rises becomes more visible. All 25 economists polled by Reuters July 3-6 expected the RBNZ to hold the official cash rate (OCR) (NZINTR=ECI) at 5.50% on July 12. It would be the first time the RBNZ has not raised rates at a policy meeting in nearly two years. The central bank raised rates in May but signalled it was done tightening. I’ve been fascinated with film music since elementary school, when I got a cassette tape called “Kid Stuff: An Afternoon at the Movies,” which featured Mr. Williams and the Boston Pops. No one exemplifies this better than Mr. Williams, who is still composing at 91. Mr. Williams accomplished this by inviting the trumpet section of the London Symphony Orchestra to blast away in its most piercing register. As he has with other cues, Mr. Williams has given this particular set piece an afterlife in concert performances. Keep your eyes shut!” Maybe then we’ll stop passively hearing film music and begin actively listening to it.

During Wagner Group's revolt in June, its mercenaries shot down several Russian military aircraft. The loss of one of Russia's few Il-22M could hinder its air force's ability to operate over Ukraine. Wagner Group's abortive revolt last month didn't just end with its leader, Yevgeny Prigozhin, fleeing the country and its troops being absorbed into the Russian military. The airborne command posts couldn't even communicate directly with air-defense units or with Russian fighters on combat air patrols. The play is like a musical. This play and this cast require that in a very similar way, but there’s nobody keeping a drumbeat, and there’s nobody playing a melody. So we need to learn how to blend in with the scenery in moments and pop forward in moments. We need to figure out which mole, and when, do we pop out of the hole. No matter what the format is, whether it’s musical theater comedy or whether it is absent of music, there’s still music to it.

Moss and Levene push back against his generalizations, accusations and abuse; Aaronow does not. The bullish Moss baits the hook and reels the weaker man in, planting the idea and prompting further inquiry. And then watch the way he registers that, merely by listening, he has become an accessory to the crime. Mamet’s hyper-stylized dialogue isn’t easy to act; if the rhythm is off, it can feel unbearably phony, “written” rather than spoken. The Beauty of a ‘Walk and Talk’

Note: As the smoke from Canadian wildfires continues to cover parts of the U.S., it may be unhealthy to walk outside. If you’re in an affected area, please save this advice for later and stay safe. This week, we’re walking and talking, taking a stroll with someone — a friend, a family member, a neighbor or a partner — to deepen our sense of connection. The exchanges seemed to flow more easily, as if our steps were setting the tempo for our speech. But there may be a simpler reason that walks draw people out: Research shows that it can be less stressful to talk to someone when you’re walking side by side, with minimal eye contact, than conversing face to face.

On Monday, Russia said Ukrainian forces over the weekend had begun a major offensive in the southern part of the Donetsk region, which it had also thwarted. The latest Russian defence ministry statement said Russian forces had inflicted huge personnel losses on attacking Ukrainian forces and destroyed 28 tanks, including eight Leopard main battle tanks and 109 armoured vehicles. It said total Ukrainian losses amounted to 1,500 troops. Russia and Ukraine have often made claims of inflicting heavy human losses on each other which could not be independently verified. In a promotional video released on Sunday and urging silence in regards to any military actions, Ukraine's defence ministry said: "Plans like silence - the beginning will not be announced."

That was five days before UBS agreed to buy Credit Suisse in a deal engineered by Swiss authorities to avoid more market-shaking turmoil in global banking. The bank failed March 10 and a smaller bank, Signature Bank, was taken over by banking regulators on March 12. The schedule shows Powell working two weeks straight from that point. Meetings were scheduled through both of the following weekends to come up with backstops to prevent the turmoil from cascading into a system-wide crisis with wider economic fallout. The pace was reminiscent of his schedule in March 2020, when the onset of the coronavirus pandemic forced the Fed onto a crisis footing.

“But Here We Are” has a back-to-basics immediacy and intensity that was missing from the last few Foo Fighters albums. (As a companion piece, they also released a cheeky collection of Bee Gees covers.) The undercurrent holding all of “But Here We Are” together is not an idea so much as raw emotion. Grohl’s melodies are as soaring and anthemic as they’ve sounded in years; his vocals are freshly impassioned and heartfelt. The towering title track layers intricate guitar work atop skittering percussion before a chorus comes along and sweeps everything into a tidal wave of sound.
