Federal court records show that Joshua Conner Jones entered into a plea agreement with prosecutors regarding the treatment of two inmates at the Walker County jail. Jones agreed to plead guilty to one count of conspiracy to deprive an inmate of their rights related to the 2023 death of Tony Mitchell. The plea agreement indicated there were five co-conspirators in the mistreatment that led to Mitchell’s death, an indication that the investigation is ongoing and more people could be charged in the death. Court documents did not name the inmate who died, but Bower confirmed the charge was related to Mitchell’s 2023 death. Prosecutors wrote in the plea agreement that Jones admitted that “collectively we did it.

Reuters —A Tesla Model S car was in “Full Self-Driving” mode when it hit and killed a 28-year-old motorcyclist in the Seattle area in April, police said, making it at least the second fatal accident involving the technology on which Tesla CEO Elon Musk is pinning his hopes. Tesla says its “Full Self-Driving (Supervised)” software requires active driver supervision and does not make vehicles autonomous. Previously, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said there was one fatal accident involving a Tesla vehicle using FSD software between August 2022 and August 2023. This year, Musk shelved Tesla’s all-new affordable cars and increased his bets on self-driving vehicles, saying he will be shocked if Tesla cannot achieve full self-driving capability next year. In December 2023, Tesla was forced to recall nearly all its vehicles on U.S. roads to add safeguards to the software.

CNN —Taylor Swift has said she is “completely in shock” after a stabbing attack at a dance class celebrating the US singer’s music in Southport, England left two children dead and others injured. “I am at a complete loss for how to ever convey my sympathies to these families,” Swift wrote in her Instagram post. Merseyside Police’s Chief Constable Serena Kennedy said six of the injured children are in critical condition and the attack also left two adults in critical condition. Kennedy added that police understand the attacker walked into the premises armed with a knife and started to attack the children. Idaho lost in an initial proceeding in a US district court, as a judge issued a temporary injunction against the abortion ban.

Two wildfires converged in the Jasper National Park area, becoming what authorities are referring to as the Jasper Wildfire Complex. Together, the fires have swallowed an estimated 89,000 acres, the Jasper National Park said. An evacuation order remains in effect for Jasper and Jasper National Park, with the vast majority of evacuees being visitors, officials said.
