When I saw my son experience withdrawals and lying to get more screen time, I realized tech really could be addictive. I believed my son had a screen addiction (although he's never been officially diagnosed by a different provider). AdvertisementWe minimized the use of screens for schoolworkAt first, we wanted my son to have as little screen time as possible. Two years later, we're just starting to consider letting my son get a phone because he has been doing so well following our family media plan. I recognize that, eventually, my son will need more unrestricted access to screens so that he's prepared as an adult.

My mom is a little old-fashioned and has been upset with me for letting my boyfriend significantly influence my financial decisions. She has said multiple times that a man should have no say in my finances until he's put a ring on my finger. One, your mom has hard-won life experiences to offer, and you would be wise to hear her out. Only that we shouldn't reject our parents' advice out of hand simply because they're "old-fashioned" or we think they're "projecting". Instead, it's about nobody having a say over anyone else's finances until they have a genuine stake in them.

Carr started training to become a nurse at Sacred Heart Hospital (now known as St. Luke's Sacred Heart Campus) in Allentown, Pennsylvania during World War II in 1944. All five of Carr's children, and nearly all of her 12 grandchildren, were born at Sacred Heart. Her son-in-law, Vincent Burns, was also born at the hospital — Carr met him hours afterward in the newborn nursery. AdvertisementIt's a story all too familiar for some older Americans: An unexpected health crisis derails their retirement planning. With insufficient help from health insurance or Social Security, medical bills eat up any savings or income they have. Jones, who gets $2,200 a month in Social Security, has had to take on part-time work, which made her ineligible for some federal assistance. She paid for chemo out of pocket, spending her way through her retirement savings and maxing out her credit cards. Amend said it's crucial for older Americans to believe everything will be OK, noting "your mindset perpetuates what your outcome will be."

CNN —In travel news this week: odd room service requests, the cruise passengers stranded for months at their departure port, plus how a rogue bag of Cheetos caused havoc in a New Mexico cave. Unusual guest requestsFar be it from us to say folks are getting a little entitled, but a new report from Hotels.com has revealed the oddest room service requests made to its hotel partners around the world. There’s the separate requests that were fielded for burnt toast, fresh goat milk and 2 kilos of bananas. And finally there’s the demand for a high-five from a team member to ensure their room service request was read. The nine-month itinerary of Royal Caribbean’s Ultimate World Cruise was considerably less ambitious, but at least it successfully completed its journey this week.

They're branding themselves as more of a high-intensity training equipment provider than just a stair-climbing apparatus provider these days. "What strength training really affords people is to make age just feel like a number," he said.

Trump even muddled the most basic attack on connecting Harris to Biden, claiming at one point that Biden "hates" his own vice president. Trump, an acolyte of Roy Cohn, forgot the controversial lawyer's most famous adage to "Attack, Attack, Attack" when he needed it the most. And as he did, all night, Trump took the bait, spending the first part of his rebuttal defending the money his father gave him. Harris continues to have a slight lead in the major national polling averages, but the race remains even closer in key swing states. After reversing himself many times, Trump declared before the weekend that he would not debate Harris again.

Michael Proctor, the Massachusetts state trooper suspended over his conduct while he was investigating Karen Read, will not testify in another high-profile case on which he was a lead investigator, prosecutors said. The department devoted dozens of additional officers to investigating the case, the filing says. The filing cites Proctor’s testimony in the Read case, in which he testified that he made derogatory comments about Read to his family, friends and supervisors, and it says the prosecutor’s office is reviewing data extracted from the trooper’s cellphone. The agency had opened an internal affairs investigation into allegations of "serious misconduct" raised at trial, a state police official said at the time. He pleaded guilty to wire fraud, interstate transportation for a scheme to defraud and unlawful monetary transaction, the prosecutor's office said.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes said he will not use his platform to endorse a presidential candidate, despite Donald Trump saying the Super Bowl champ's wife, Brittany Mahomes, is a "big MAGA fan." Trump responded saying in a phone interview Wednesday on "Fox and Friends" that he is "not a Taylor Swift fan." She's a big Trump fan," he said. That was not the first time Trump mentioned Brittany Mahomes, who has become close with Swift after the pop star began dating Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. And for Trump, flipping Pennsylvania — a state he narrowly won in 2016 but lost in 2020 — would give him a broader path to winning back the White House. Trump tried to bring fracking into focusIn 2019, when Harris was running for the 2020 Democratic presidential nomination, she voiced support for a ban on hydraulic fracturing — or fracking. And recognizing the political potency of the issue, Harris on Tuesday sought to distance herself from her past comments by pointing to her record as vice president. From 1992 to 2012, only Democratic presidential nominees carried the state. In the state's Real Clear Politics polling average, Harris and Trump are both currently tied at 47.6% support.

Bitcoin is likely to reach at least one more all-time high by the end of this year, according to Standard Chartered. That's likely regardless of whether Vice President Kamala Harris or former President Donald Trump wins the presidential election this November – a variable that others have viewed as a make-or-break game changer for the industry since Trump threw his public support behind the industry this summer. "BTC will end 2024 at fresh all-time highs under either election outcome – [circa] $125,000 level under Trump or c.$75,000 level under Harris," he said. The firm maintains its view that bitcoin will reach the $200,000 level by the end of 2025, regardless of this year's election outcome. That's one reason so many are hoping the election could trigger some movement in bitcoin.
