Chip City has a goal to open 40 locations by the end of the year. The cookie chain is known for its unique and seasonal flavors. Then in 2022, Shake Shack founder Danny Meyer and his investment firm, Enlightened Hospitality Investments, poured $10 million in Chip City to help the company open more locations. Crumbl is much larger in comparison, with 800 store locations, though Chip is showing that perhaps slow and steady wins the race. I visited the Astoria, Queens, flagship store to see why the cookie chain is so popular.

It's the fourth time Chipotle has raised prices in the last two years. The increase meant some customers would pay more than $1 more for their entrees once the price increase took effect in August of the same year. Months before that, in the first quarter of 2022, Chipotle raised its prices by 4%. And Chipotle lovers sounded off in the comment section of a viral TikTok on "the downfall of Chipotle" in July. They recalled a time when their chicken burrito bowl only cost $7.99 — and longed for a taste of a Chipotle burrito from 2011.

He now sees Shake Shack's same-store sales rising just 2.9% in 2024, down from a previous estimate of 4.4%. "We see a greater impact on operators serving higher-income, more educated customer bases ... leading us to trim our same-store sales and EPS estimates." Sometimes, you put a recipe out into the universe and genuinely wonder: Will anyone care? It’s the scary, vulnerable side of developing recipes, and I felt it when I first published this recipe for homemade Hamburger Helper (above) in 2019. In many ways, the recipe felt like a left turn, what with all the American cheese and bacon. And Hamburger Helper is so deeply retro — would people still be interested in cooking it? put a sharp accent on the dish, making it feel more restaurant-y than supermarket-y.

Heading home from Lake Tahoe on Saturday, President Joe Biden exchanged a week of waterfront seclusion for the more workaday realities of running the country from Washington. Like many presidents, Biden spent a good portion of August away from the White House, trading the capital’s stifling heat for the beach or the mountains. Of the first 26 days in August, Biden spent only one day entirely at the White House. He also held events at the White House marking his legislative accomplishments. The White House did detail some of the presidential tasks Biden undertook.

Dreamers, artists and doers have long been drawn to the Maine coast; the author E.B. White wrote his 1952 children’s classic “Charlotte’s Web” on a saltwater farm in Brooklin, and the painter Andrew Wyeth made his famous work “Christina’s World” (1948) in Cushing, some 80 miles southwest. Among a newer generation are Jay and Alison Carroll, the couple behind Wonder Valley, a line of olive oils, skin-care products and home goods, who’ve made a home for themselves on Bailey Island, a rocky spit of land in Casco Bay an hour’s drive from Portland, where Jay grew up. After purchasing the property (which they refer to as B.I.B.S., short for “Bailey Island Beach Shack”) at a foreclosure auction in 2020, the pair, who also own El Rey Court, a boutique hotel in Santa Fe, N.M., and the newer Waymore’s Guest House and Casual Club, in Nashville, set about renovating the small, shingled cove-side cottage. But before work on the interior was finished, they prioritized some coastal Maine essentials: buying a boat and, with the help of a neighbor, building a wood-burning oven in the backyard.

Greek firefighters recovered the bodies of 18 people on Tuesday who they believe may be migrants in the Evros region of northern Greece, close to the city of Alexandroupolis, where a major wildfire was burning for a fourth day. The charred remains were found near a shack on the border of the Dadia Forest, a spokesman for the Greek fire service, Yiannis Artopios, said in a televised briefing. There have been no reports of missing people in the area, so the authorities said they were examining the possibility that the dead “had entered the country illegally,” Mr. Artopios said. No further details were available about the dead. The Evros region, where the bodies were found, is on the border with Turkey and is a crossing point for thousands of migrants seeking to enter Europe through Greece.
