Weibao Wang, 35 years old, a software engineer at Apple from 2016 to 2018, was charged with six counts of theft or attempted theft of the company’s “entire autonomy source code,” tracking systems, architecture designs and descriptions of hardware behind the technology, the Justice Department said in an indictment.

Special counsel Jack Smith’s team has issued dozens of subpoenas related to efforts to reverse the 2020 election result. Photo: Peter Dejong/Associated PressWASHINGTON—Special counsel Jack Smith is racing through a roster of interviews in his wide-ranging investigations related to former President Donald Trump, including with former Vice President Mike Pence and other top aides, as he contemplates filing charges, according to people familiar with the matter. The steps prosecutors are taking, the people say, suggest Mr. Smith is in the late stages of his inquiry into Mr. Trump’s efforts to remain in power after the 2020 election. The special counsel is also considering whether the former president tried to obstruct a separate probe into the handling of classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago resort by withholding material sought by the Justice Department.

Wise , tangling with officers outside the Capitol, investigators wrote in court filings filed Monday, calling them Nazis and encouraging rioters attacking the police line to “Kill ‘em!
‘There is a bit of a whack-a-mole problem here, and we are whacking as hard as we can,’ Attorney General Merrick Garland said. Photo: Anna Moneymaker/Getty ImagesWASHINGTON—International authorities have shut down an online marketplace and arrested nearly 300 people who allegedly used it and other parts of the so-called dark web to buy and sell fentanyl and other dangerous opioids, in a sweep officials said underscores how hard it is to stem the tide of drug trafficking in the internet’s hidden corners. The operation went on for more than 18 months and spanned three continents, U.S. officials said Tuesday. Law-enforcement agencies also seized more than $53 million in cash and virtual currencies, along with guns and nearly 2,000 pounds of drugs.

Special counsel Jack Smith, who is overseeing the investigation into Donald Trump’s efforts to remain in power after the 2020 election, had subpoenaed former Vice President Mike Pence earlier this year. Photo: Allison Joyce/Agence France-Presse/Getty ImagesWASHINGTON—Former Vice President Mike Pence testified Thursday before the grand jury investigating former President Donald Trump’s efforts to remain in power after the 2020 election, according to a person familiar with the matter, a day after a federal appeals court rejected Mr. Trump’s bid to block that testimony on executive privilege grounds. Mr. Pence’s appearance behind closed doors is a significant development for special counsel Jack Smith in his ongoing investigation. The former vice president is a key witness for prosecutors because of his role as president of the Senate certifying the 2020 election results on Jan. 6, 2021. Prosecutors have also sought his testimony about conversations he had with Mr. Trump leading up to that day.

Airman First Class Jack Teixeira, who has been jailed since his arrest earlier this month, “accessed and may still have access to a trove of classified information that would be of tremendous value to hostile nation states that could offer him safe harbor and attempt to facilitate his escape from the United States,” prosecutors said late Wednesday in a filing.

British American Tobacco PLC said it had abandoned its North Korean business, but continued selling tobacco to the regime using a front company, officials said. Photo: Igor Golovniov/SOPA Images/LightRocket/Getty ImagesWASHINGTON—A U.K. tobacco company agreed to pay more than $635 million to resolve charges that it conspired to violate U.S. sanctions by selling cigarettes to North Korea in what Justice Department officials described as a brazen scheme to conceal illicit business by routing it through a third-party company in Singapore. The settlement payment was the largest penalty ever levied on a company for violating U.S. sanctions on Pyongyang. The company, British American Tobacco PLC, entered into a deferred prosecution agreement with federal prosecutors over illegal sales that took place over more than a decade, even after the company announced that it had abandoned its North Korean business, U.S. officials said. But BAT, which makes Lucky Strike, Dunhill and Pall Mall cigarettes, continued selling tobacco products to the isolated regime through a Singaporean front company.
CNN —“Chris Evans and Ana de Armas” is about all that’s required to make the sales pitch for “Ghosted,” a spirited if familiar action-based romantic comedy, where the sparring banter generally outshines the muscular stunts. Throw in clever cameos and this Apple TV+ movie delivers on its promise of unpretentious fun. Unlike the needy Cole, “Ghosted” doesn’t ask for anything more than a couple intermittently attentive hours of your time. Thanks to Evans and de Armas, it’s the sort of invitation that’s pretty hard to ignore. “Ghosted” premieres April 21 on Apple TV+.
