LVMH (LVMH.PA), the world's biggest luxury group and one of Europe's biggest companies by market value, this month also reported a slowdown in third-quarter sales -- although it still clocked an increase in revenues with sales at its fashion and leather goods division up 9%. And Birkin bag-maker Hermes on Tuesday reported a rise in sales of 15.6%. Kering has undertaken a sweeping overhaul aimed at reviving Gucci, which has struggled to capitalise on the strong post-pandemic rebound in luxury goods sales and lost ground to rivals like LVMH's Dior and Louis Vuitton.

Oct 19 (Reuters) - Technip Energies (TE.PA) shares plummeted on Thursday after French newspaper Le Monde said the oil and gas company may have failed to comply with European Union sanctions against Russia by continuing to supply equipment to a Russian gas project. Technip Energies said in a statement after its shares fell as much as 22% that it had always respected international sanctions and its contractual obligations regarding the Arctic LNG2 project in Russia. "Technip Energies has worked with the relevant authorities and has complied with sanctions gradually imposed by the European Union, the United States and Britain," it said. The equipment delivered by Technip involved two modules for the construction of a liquefaction train worth around 450 million euros, Le Monde said, citing Russian customs records, maritime data and satellite images. "$800 million of market cap came off, it's a very harsh response, and suggests the news scared investors out there," said the analyst, who spoke on condition of anonymity, referring to the Le Monde story.

Shipping is one of the biggest polluting industries in the world, but Maersk is looking to change that. The world's second-largest shipping firm presented the first containership powered with green methanol – an alternative fuel that allows these ships to emit less CO2 compared to traditional vessels. However, green methanol is costly and scarce. Analysts are concerned whether Maersk and other shipping firms will struggle to secure enough supply to achieve their carbon ambitions. Is powering ships with green methanol the solution to one of the world's heaviest polluting industries?

It is a make-or-break moment for China's relationship with the European Union, as the bloc's trade chief asks for more openness and fairness from Beijing. "Last year, the EU registered record bilateral trade with China of 865 billion euros ($921 billion). While the EU argues that Chinese support to EVs is creating distortions in the European market, Beijing authorities criticize what they described as "protectionist" views from Brussels. This means minimising our strategic dependencies for a select number of strategic products. Acting in a proportionate and targeted way to maintain our open strategic autonomy," Dombrovskis clarified in a speech in Shanghai.
