"The caravan was made up of 20 people, 16 nationals and four Americans who were traveling in two trucks," reported INM, which condemned the attack. INM said that three Mexican citizens were wounded: a woman who received two gunshot wounds to the back, a 62-year-old man who was shot in the leg, and a 70-year-old man whose finger was hit by a bullet. ☆ Second rider dies in centenary Manx GP qualifying

Aug 23 (Reuters) - A second rider has died after a crash in qualifying for the centenary edition of the Manx Grand Prix motorcycle races on the Isle of Man, organisers said on Wednesday. Ian Bainbridge, a 69-year-old Briton who had been a regular competitor in the event since 2005, died on Tuesday evening at the exit of Kirk Michael village during the second qualifying session. Gary Vines, a 33-year-old British rider who competed in this year's TT races as well as being a Manx regular, died in Sunday's first qualifying session after an accident at Ballagarey. The Manx Grand Prix was first run in 1923 as the Manx Amateur Road Races and features mainly amateur riders competing over the island's TT course. Like the TT races the Manx ranks among the deadliest events in motorsport.

Raul Chapado, Adille Sumariwalla and Jackson Tuwei were elected vice-presidents, alongside Colombia's Ximena Restrepo, who was re-elected. The global body added that it had met its minimum gender target set out in 2016 of having 13 members of each gender elected to the World Athletics Council four years early. "But the job is not done yet and we need to keep pushing for gender parity throughout our representative bodies." World Athletics has until its 2027 Congress to meet the remaining requirement from its 2016 reform plan of having two vice presidents of each gender.

They said that the state law, signed by Republican Governor Brad Little in March, illegally discriminates on the basis of gender identity and violates students' right to privacy. Idaho's bathroom bill allows students to sue schools for $5,000 if they encounter a transgender student in a bathroom the law forbids. Until last week, Corona Plaza in Queens was bustling: taqueros flipping fresh tortillas and vendors hawking Central American crafts over a soundtrack of cumbia and train traffic. There were produce stands, live bands and surging crowds, all in a public square that was named one of the 100 best places to eat in the city. But last Thursday and Friday, sanitation workers swept through the plaza, removing several stalls and threatening to penalize vendors who did not have a city permit to operate — nearly all of the more than 80 who regularly work there. In the days since, the grilled-meat stands and jugs of agua fresca have been replaced with protest signs. A spokesman for the Sanitation Department said removing the unpermitted vendors was necessary because the plaza had become so crowded that it was impassable, “with dirty conditions, with semi-permanent structures bolted into the ground, illegal vending right in front of storefronts.”
