The town's mining roots are still on display, but the action has shifted to the country's largest lithium brine operation 45 minutes away. Specialty chemicals company Albemarle acquired the site in 2015 from Foot Mineral Company, and has owned it ever since. Under the International Energy Agency's most ambitious climate scenario, lithium supply will have to grow 40-fold by 2040 from today's levels. The U.S. used to be a leader in lithium production, but it's since ceded that position to foreign nations, including China. Albemarle's Silver Peak lithium plant spans 13,000 acres.
After noon EST, an AT&T spokesperson replied to Crypto World's request for comment on a story featured in today's show about the alleged hacking case writing in a statement that"fraudulent SIM swaps are a form of theft committed by sophisticated criminals." "We have security measures in place to help defeat them, and we work closely with law enforcement, our industry and consumers to help prevent this type of crime," the statement continued.

U.S. panel manufacturer First Solar is uniquely positioned to benefit from the recently passed Inflation Reduction Act, Evercore ISI said as it upgraded the stock to an outperform rating. Shares of First Solar have gained nearly 80% since July 27 when Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., and Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.V, said they reached an agreement on a climate package. The firm added that given First Solar's domestic footprint the company could benefit from trade restrictions on Chinese solar modules. Evercore is not the only Wall Street firm to note the benefits for First Solar from the IRA. Shares of First Solar dipped more than 2% Thursday.

But for Impactive Capital co-founder and managing partner Lauren Taylor Wolfe, it all comes back to financial performance. "We believe that ESG without returns is simply not sustainable," she said Wednesday at CNBC's Delivering Alpha conference. Even if returns aren't the sole focus of an investment vehicle, sustainable investing can still generate alpha for investors. When it comes to applying an ESG lens to public market investing, Impactive Capital's Taylor Wolfe said investors need to be creative around how ESG is used to drive returns. She added that the recent market turmoil could spark a reset of sorts within the sustainable investing landscape.
Wells Fargo said Wednesday that retail names exposed to the housing theme could see a "possible uptick in 2H Home Improvement demand." Fadem added that even beyond the possible uptick in sales from the storm, defensive positioning is warranted across hardline retailers. Wells Fargo said that the storm could contribute between 30 and 80 basis points of incremental quarterly comparisons across its home improvement coverage in Florida alone. Wells Fargo noted that the benefits to Floor & Decor Holdings, for example, depends on the extent of water damages. Wells Fargo said that while comparisons can be attractive quarter over quarter or year over year, it doesn't necessarily mean higher margins.

Goldman Sachs "significantly" cut its oil price forecasts Tuesday amid fears of slowing economic growth. Still, analysts led by Damien Courvalin said crude will likely bounce off current levels, with oil hovering right around a nine-month low. Courvalin now forecasts Brent averaging $100 per barrel during the fourth quarter, down from a prior target of $125. He sees the contract averaging $105 for the first half of 2023, and $110 for the back half of next year. Both WTI and Brent briefly spiked above $130 per barrel, sending prices at the U.S. pump surging to record levels.
The climate crisis is fueling extreme weather events including record droughts, and with stress growing on global water systems HSBC said investors should own stocks with exposure to water infrastructure. In a recent note to clients, the firm said water systems are a "huge investment" theme over the coming years, identifying key players in various sub-sectors of the over-arching theme. "We think companies that offer water management solutions across various industries could gain from rising awareness about addressing the global water scarcity issues," HSBC added. HSBC also pointed to water treatment company Ecolab and water solutions company Xylem as beneficiaries of increasing investments in water infrastructure. Smart solutions, like those that Xylem provide, are a growing area of focus as municipalities look to upgrade their water systems.
Driving the firm's bullish case is the disconnect between supply and demand for lithium, a critical EV material. Piper believes the market will remain in a deficit for at least the next three to four years, and potentially longer, "which will help sustain lithium pricing." Shares of Livent slid nearly 12% last week, but the stock has still registered a 25% gain for 2022. The firm believes that any pullback in auto sales would be focused on internal combustion engines rather than electric vehicles. "We will further localize the lithium supply chain in North America over the course of the agreement," GM added.

The firm said Monday in a note to clients that Diamondback Energy , EQT and Chesapeake Energy are solid bets for investors from a risk vs. reward standpoint. Key factors to watch for during earnings reports include production execution, management of inflationary pressures and capital return outlook, he added. Fellow natural gas player Chesapeake Energy is also on the firm's list of stocks to buy ahead of earnings. "We believe CHK is on track to provide strong capital returns to shareholders and close the value gap vs. its peers," the firm said. Chesapeake reports earnings after the market closes on Aug. 2.

Second-quarter earnings for solar companies kick off next week, and Goldman said two stocks in particular should be on investors' radar: Enphase Energy and SolarEdge . The firm said in a recent note to clients that both companies have the potential to beat quarterly estimates, while also raising guidance. Analysts led by Brian Lee said both companies, which make inverters for solar systems, are benefitting from strong demand in Europe, as well as demand for their energy storage products. Goldman has a $244 12-month target on the stock, which is 11% above where the stock closed on Thursday. On the other hand, Goldman is cautious on the panel suppliers, rating First Solar , JinkoSolar and Maxeon Solar as sells.
