Jeff Landry has declared a state of emergency due to a police officer shortage. Landry's executive order issued Thursday lifts limits on how many new employees Louisiana sheriffs can hire and on payroll increases for their departments. Landry's order removes restrictions that state law places on hiring and payroll for a period of time following a gubernatorial election. Small towns, including in Maine, Texas and Ohio, have disbanded their police departments, turning over law enforcement work to county sheriffs, a neighboring town or state police. New York CNN —Football’s youngest fans will be able to watch Super Bowl LVIII announced by SpongeBob SquarePants and the rest of the gang from Bikini Bottom. Characters from the cartoon SpongeBob SquarePants will join the telecast live. Sandy Cheeks (voiced by Carolyn Lawrence) will make her sideline reporting debut during the Super Bowl LVIII telecast live "Super Bowl LVIII Live from Bikini Bottom". But fans of the long-running show will recognize a 2001 classic next Sunday — there will be a “Sweet Victory” performance in the Super Bowl telecast. In the 2019 Super Bowl, halftime act Maroon 5 paid tribute to the song that the SpongeBob characters sang in a 2001 episode (in the episode, the characters of the Bikini Bottom were performing in the Bubble Bowl, a spoof of the Super Bowl.)

CNN —American golfer Wyndham Clark was declared the winner of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am after just 54 holes on Sunday, as heavy storms over the Monterey Peninsula led organizers to end the tournament early. Yet despite improved forecasts for Monday morning, the result was declared with 18 holes still to play “in accordance with PGA Tour regulations,” according to a statement from the PGA Tour Rules Committee on Sunday night.
