Four people were wounded at a Brooklyn train station Sunday when police officers shot at a man threatening them with a knife, authorities said. The bloody confrontation began when two officers confronted a man who entered the station without paying his fare, officials said. They followed him on to a train that had pulled into the station and fired two Tasers, but neither incapacitated the man, Maddrey said. Mayor Eric Adams visited the wounded officer in the hospital Sunday, ahead of a news conference addressing the shooting. In 2019, NYPD officers accidentally shot and killed two fellow officers while confronting crime suspects in separate on-duty incidents.

CNN —The US Coast Guard on Monday will begin a multi-day hearing to examine the loss of the Titan – the ill-fated submersible authorities said imploded in the North Atlantic Ocean in June 2023, killing all five people aboard during a dive to the wreckage of the Titanic. The public hearing will be conducted by the Marine Board of Investigation that was convened within days of the submersible’s disappearance. The MBI – the highest level of inquiry by the Coast Guard – was tasked with reviewing the cause of the tragedy and offering recommendations, including about potential civil penalties and criminal prosecution. The MBI is made up of numerous Coast Guard officials and at least two from the National Transportation Safety Board, according to a list provided by the Coast Guard. When the investigation is complete, the US Coast Guard and the National Transportation Safety Board will each conduct an independent analysis and complete reports, Neubauer said Sunday.

The Hawaii Emergency Management Agency didn’t immediately respond with comment. Maui fire commanders discussed the forecast, but “no evidence of pre-event preparedness plans by the MFD were produced,” the report said. Maui County and the state use private contractors to help fight fires with water tankers and heavy equipment. Asian American groups are sounding the alarm after the House this week passed a bill seeking to revive the highly controversial, Trump-era surveillance program the China Initiative. “Originally a Trump-era initiative sold as a national security measure, the China Initiative instead turned out to be a witch hunt,” leaders from civil rights groups Asian Americans Advancing Justice | AAJC, Stop AAPI Hate, and the Asian American Scholar Forum said in a joint statement. A person was shot and and suffered a life-threatening injury Thursday after tackling a pro-Israel demonstrator in Newton, Massachusetts, the district attorney said. A member of the demonstrating group, a 47-year-old man from Framingham, then shot that person, she said. Asked at a news conference if the person shot was anti-Israel or pro-Palestinian, Ryan said, "I think it’s too soon to get into that." The person who was shot, who has not been identified by authorities, sustained injuries that are life-threatening and was at a hospital Thursday night, Ryan said. At one point the person who was shot went into the street toward the demonstrators and then returned back to the other side, before crossing the street and tackling the demonstrator, she said.

A suburban Philadelphia man has been accused of drugging at least five women and a teenage girl he met on a dating site and sexually assaulting them at his home while they were impaired, authorities said.
