New York City has also seen a surge in bicycling since the pandemic caused many to avoid mass transit and ride shares. And the funding for the Streets Plan — more than $900 million — has already been allocated to DOT. The city streets were designed to maximize vehicle speed rather than to get as many New Yorkers around as efficiently and safely as possible. While New York City streets have generally gotten safer since the city adopted its 'Vision Zero' plan in 2014 to eliminate traffic deaths and serious injuries in 2014, progress hasn't been consistent. Advertisement"What New York City can learn is that when you commit to comprehensive bike infrastructure, it works," Elizabeth Adams said.

According to experts, while it can be costly, new windows can provide significant benefits like lower outside noise and better energy efficiency for the entire home. Wood windows have a traditional look that can be styled with just about any color. “You just need to keep them clean.”The only minor difference between vinyl and wood windows regarding maintenance is sealing and painting. Alexander says that if you have wood windows, they should be sealed or painted if they are exposed to rain or snow. In July, plant scientists at the International Botanical Congress in Madrid changed a scientific name shared by about 200 different plant species. For centuries, the word “caffra” was used in the scientific names of many plants to denote that they grew in Africa. Botanists in the region have objected to using the term to refer to African plants. In South Africa, use of the word can result in a fine or even a prison sentence. “We owe it to ourselves to make amends that recognize the wrongs our previous generations did,” said Nigel Barker, a botanist at the University of Pretoria who was raised in South Africa during apartheid.
