But Widodo appointed Subianto as defense chief after his reelection, paving the way for an alliance despite their rival political parties. Backed by Widodo, Subianto swept to a landslide victory in February’s direct presidential election on promises of policy continuity. Subianto was sworn in with his new vice president, 37-year-old Surakarta ex-Mayor Gibran Rakabuming Raka. Leaders and senior officials from more than 30 countries flew in to attend the ceremony, including Chinese Vice President Han Zheng and leaders of Southeast Asia countries. Indonesia is a bastion of democracy in Southeast Asia, a diverse and economically bustling region of authoritarian governments, police states and nascent democracies.

Religion is making a rare appearance on the campaign trail this week in a presidential election that has dwelled less on candidates’ personal faith than any in recent memory. Vice President Kamala Harris is planning to attend services and speak at the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church outside Atlanta on Sunday, while her running mate, Minnesota Gov. And Harris and Trump, along with their running mates, have complicated religious backgrounds that are harder to “sell” politically than Biden’s familiar Catholicism, he said. “I grew up in the Black church,” Harris told radio host Charlamagne tha God last week when a pastor asked about partnering with faith communities. “If you are not comfortable talking about religion, it really shows, so it makes sense not to,” said Faggioli.

CNN —Donald Trump is pulling one of the most iconic American companies – McDonald’s – into the political arena in the final days of his third White House bid. “I’m going to McDonald’s to work the french fry,” Trump told supporters Saturday at a rally in the Pittsburgh area. A campaign official told CNN that Harris worked at a McDonald’s in Alameda, California, during the summer of 1983 when she was still a student at Howard University in Washington. It’s unclear why Trump has latched on to Harris’ McDonald’s employment or why a visit there was warranted during one of his few remaining weekends before Election Day. “I think my father knows the McDonald’s menu much better than Kamala Harris ever did,” Trump Jr. said.

His alarming behavior may look to some like a candidacy melting down when the pressure is at its most extreme. With polls deadlocked, Trump’s behavior hasn’t yet disqualified him. And Trump’s voters still regard him as a vessel for their frustration with a political and economic system they believe has poorly served them. Trump’s behavior underscores stakes of deadlocked electionIt will be up to voters to decide how to process Trump’s recent conduct. The Harris campaign, which began as an attempt to spread joy, is now fully exploiting Trump’s rhetorical rampages.

The presidential race remains razor close, with control of the White House at a coin-flip. AdvertisementIn just over two weeks, Election Day 2024 will be here — a final cap to a wild, at times unprecedented presidential fight that, for the moment, remains far too close to call. Noted election forecaster Nate Silver's model now shows Trump with an extremely slight lead in what continues to remain a toss-up race. Harris trolled Trump on Friday for being "exhausted," referencing a string of interviews he has reportedly walked away from. In the overwhelmingly conservative state, there's a swing district, the Omaha-based Nebraska 2nd.

CNN —Vice President Kamala Harris turns 60 on Sunday – and, her campaign wants voters to know, that makes her 18 years younger than Donald Trump. Harris’ campaign is increasingly questioning the former president’s mental and physical fitness in the final weeks of the 2024 presidential race. “He’s becoming increasingly unstable and unhinged, and it requires that response,” Harris told reporters Saturday in Detroit. Top Harris allies have also leaned into the strategy of casting Trump as old and mentally unfit in recent days. “He’s talking about Hannibal Lecter, he’s talking about this, he’s talking about that.”Trump, at times, seems to tie migrants who seek asylum in the United States to the character of Lecter being detained at an insane asylum.

He said a Harris administration "will build on existing programs, increasing federal spending to make health care more affordable for people." Still, Socal said a Trump administration wouldn't have much flexibility to dismantle or scale back the law without change from Congress. The IRA extended enhanced subsidies that made ACA health plans more affordable for millions of households through 2025 — a provision Harris plans to make permanent if elected, her campaign said. Vice President Kamala Harris will hit the trail for the first time alongside the Obamas, who the campaign hopes will galvanize supporters in early voting areas in the waning days ahead of the election. Harris will hold a campaign event with former President Barack Obama in Georgia next Thursday, the first time the pair has campaigned side by side, a senior campaign official said. A week from Saturday, Harris will campaign alongside former first lady Michelle Obama in Michigan, the first time she has appeared on the campaign trail this cycle. In a major push, Democratic stars are hitting the trail for Harris in the final weeks of the campaign. In addition to his plans to campaign alongside Harris in Georgia, Barack Obama is set to hold events in Arizona and Nevada on Friday and Saturday.

Her decision to appear on The Shade Room and other less traditional platforms has left many scratching their heads. But it’s a strategy to reach young, Black voters who are increasingly turning to social media for news. Fifty-two percent of polled adults under 30 said they have a lot or some trust in information that comes from social media. That is most likely what led Harris to The Shade Room, which has more than 29 million followers on Instagram and is known for saucy celebrity gossip and salacious headlines. Trump has denied having multiple calls with Putin, calling it “absolutely wrong” in an interview on Newsmax last week. Days later at the Chicago Economic Club, he declined to comment on whether the Putin calls had taken place, but said it would have been a “smart thing” if he had. GREEN BAY, Wis. — In the weeks following the vice presidential debate, Democratic vice presidential nominee Tim Walz has been sounding more like the aggressive campaigner who got the role than the buttoned-up figure he’s cut since joining the ticket. Dressed in khakis and a navy Harris-Walz sweatshirt Monday, Walz delivered some of his sharpest attacks yet against former President Donald Trump. “I’m one or two interviews from being a regular on Fox News,” Walz said at a campaign stop in Valencia, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday. Before then, he had been almost completely missing on TV since becoming the Democratic vice presidential nominee and avoiding answering questions from the media. CNN —Former President Donald Trump on Wednesday repeated his false claim that Haitian migrants in Springfield, Ohio, are eating their neighbors’ pets, using a town hall with undecided Latino voters to prop up misinformation that has been rejected by local and statewide leaders from both parties. Trump has made inroads with Hispanic voters, but Vice President Kamala Harris still has an advantage – albeit slimmer than Joe Biden’s in 2020 – with that demographic. The former president on Wednesday largely ignored the detailed questions from the audience, frequently pivoting to attacks on undocumented immigrants. Trump did not respond directly, but – after acknowledging he’s never been to the city – said he is planning a visit. “We had the strongest border we’ve ever had in the history, recorded history of our country,” Trump said when questioned about his border plan.

In 2023, there were 43 million single women living in the US, a 55% increase since 2000. Single women are older, more educated, and more financially independent than they were a generation earlier. In 2000, 48% of single women reported voting. And her support is growing: A recent Ipsos survey found Harris leading among single women voters by nearly 40 points.
