Get ready for blast off: We’re going to the Planet of the Bass. This week, social media users were bumping “Planet of the Bass,” a parody of a ’90s Eurodance song with clubby synths and grammatically confounding lyrics. Since he shared a 50-second clip on TikTok last week, some fans have been declaring “Planet of the Bass” their song of the summer. The song has already ignited a minor controversy around the identity of its elusive vocalist, credited onscreen as “Ms. But then, a plot twist: On Thursday, Gordon posted a second video in which Trullinger was replaced with Mara Olney, another content creator.

With Donald Trump facing charges in three different criminal cases, the biggest questions in American politics are whether that creates an opening for his Republican rivals in the presidential race — and whether it disqualifies him in the eyes of general election voters. A new set of Times polls has answers to those questions. It shows the president and the former president still tied among registered voters, each at 43 percent. Nate Cohn, The New York Times’s chief political analyst, talks us through the first Times/Siena polling of the 2024 election cycle.

Opinion | More Public Pools Could Save Thousands of Lives

But the transformative move would be to build far more public pools across the United States. Too few public poolsThere are more than 10 million private swimming pools in the United States, according to a C.D.C. By many available measures, public pools can be the safest places to swim. Yet the United States hasn’t made a serious investment in public pools since the Great Depression, when scores of grand public pools were erected in many parts of the country under President Franklin Roosevelt’s New Deal programs, according to Jeff Wiltse, the author of “Contested Waters,” a book about the history of swimming pools. In the 1960s, many towns across the South filled or destroyed their public pools rather than allow Black Americans to swim in them.

CNN —The cause of death for British actor Julian Sands, who went missing in the mountains of Southern California in January and was later found dead, has been cited as “undetermined,” CNN has confirmed. “The cause is ‘Undetermined’ due to the condition of the body and because no other factors were discovered during the coroner’s investigation, this is common when dealing with cases of this type. This is the final determination,” Mara Rodriguez, public information officer for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Coroner Department, told CNN in a statement on Monday. Last month, human remains found in the San Gabriel mountains were determined to be those of Sands, CNN confirmed at the time. Weather conditions had hindered search efforts in the weeks following his disappearance, but officials announced a renewed effort to locate Sands in June.

The data was deleted from a provincial government website just days after it was published on Thursday. The number of cremations in the eastern province of Zhejiang rose to 171,000 in the first quarter of this year, the website said. That was 72,000 more cremations, a roughly 70 percent increase, than had been reported in the same period last year. In February, China said the official death toll in the mainland since the start of the pandemic was 83,150 — a remarkably low number that independent researchers have said is not credible. Since then, the government has released only weekly or monthly death tolls that, when added up, raise the overall total to about 83,700.

Increasing turnout in primaries may be one of the best ways to get better, more responsive government. SEC spells out bitcoin ETF concerns to asset managers

The SEC has communicated its concerns to the exchanges Nasdaq (NDAQ.O) and Cboe Global Markets (CBOE.Z) which filed the applications on behalf of asset managers including BlackRock (BLK.N) and Fidelity, the source added on Friday. Bitcoin , which has jumped since BlackRock filed its application on June 15, fell after the Wall Street Journal first reported the SEC rejection on Friday. The SEC, Fidelity, BlackRock and Nasdaq declined to comment on the report, while Cboe was not immediately available. The SEC has rejected dozens of spot bitcoin ETF applications in recent years, including one from Fidelity in January 2022. In a bid to address these concerns, the BlackRock and Fidelity filings proposed a surveillance mechanism aimed at preventing manipulation, but the applicants did not name which bitcoin exchange would be involved.

Days before this Sunday’s election in Greece, three young women with piercings and ironic T-shirts who sat outside a hipster coffee shop in an Athens neighborhood best known as a hub of anarchist fervor said they wanted stability. “Money is important — you can’t live without money,” said Mara Katsitou, 22, a student who grew up during the country’s disastrous financial crisis and one day hoped to open a pharmacy. “There’s nothing that matters to someone more than the economy.”As a result, she said, she would cast her vote for Kyriakos Mitsotakis, 55, the square, conservative prime minister who graduated from Harvard, who is fond of riding his bike and who, polls suggest, will win convincingly on Sunday in a second national election. With Mr. Mitsotakis — who is also the son of a former prime minister — Ms. Katsitou said, she had “definitely a better chance.” About a third of young voters like her feel the same, polls indicate. After spending impressionable years amid so much panic, desperation and humiliation during the decade-long financial crisis that erupted in 2010 — and which collapsed the Greek economy — many of Greece’s depression-era children have grown up to say they have no interest in ever turning back.

TEGUCIGALPA, June 21 (Reuters) - Honduras will return control of most of the country's penal system to the military police for the next year, the Central American country's presidential office said late on Wednesday, a day after a prison riot claimed nearly 50 lives. Honduras will also turn islands hundreds of kilometers off the coast into a penal colony for "highly dangerous" gang leaders, the presidental office said. Castro had promised "drastic measures" to address the deaths at a women's prison, which she attributed to an organized attack by gang members conducted with guards' knowledge. Tuesday's riot likely began in retaliation to recent government measures cracking down on corruption and gang control from within prison walls, authorities said. It also returned control of 21 of the country's 26 prisons to the military police.

Essentially, the Earth will become overcrowded and almost inhospitable by the mid-22nd century, so technology was developed to help citizens travel back 85 million years to inhabit the untouched Earth in a settlement called Terra Nova. The series' sole season ended in 2011 with the main character, Jim, destroying the portal to the past and narrowly making it back to Terra Nova. What would that mean for the people of Terra Nova?
