The new regime for food imports is perhaps the starkest example of the painful border bureaucracy that UK and EU businesses must contend with in the wake of Brexit. An additional cost of that scale will “significantly increase food prices and reduce choice,” the federation’s CEO Phil Pluck wrote in a letter to environment and food minister Steve Barclay earlier this month. But here too Brexit hasn’t helped, ending as it did the free movement of EU workers on whom British farmers had relied for decades. In addition to Brexit-related challenges, UK farmers have been squeezed by soaring input costs, including those of fertilizer, energy and labor. “I’m not hugely in favor of subsidies, I’m in favor of fair food prices,” Maddocks said.

Now, a new study, building upon previous evidence, has found that among teens, vaping often may spike the risk of exposure to lead and uranium — potentially harming brain and organ development in young people. However, chronic exposure to metals, “even at low levels, can lead to detrimental health impacts, affecting cardiovascular, renal, cognitive and psychiatric functions,” she added. The study was conducted at one point in time, so the authors couldn’t control for chronic or long-term exposure. The authors acknowledged that their study is observational, meaning it didn’t find a causal relationship between vaping and toxic metal levels. But knowing why this preference led to higher uranium exposure requires more research.

Washington CNN —The US economy cooled more than expected in the first quarter of the year, but remained healthy by historical standards. Gross domestic product, which measures all the services and goods produced in the economy, measured an annualized rate of 1.6% in the first quarter, the Commerce Department reported Thursday. It was the weakest pace of growth since the second quarter of 2022 when the economy contracted. What this means for interest ratesInflation slowed considerably last year, but the pace of its descent has stalled in recent months. For now, economic growth remains healthy, despite the weaker-than-expected first-quarter GDP reading, as employers continue to hire at a solid clip and workers still command robust wage gains.

The revelation comes from a trove of documents recently discovered by US researchers inside a computer server housed in North Korea. Logs from the North Korean computer server showed multiple visits from internet connections in northeast China, the US cybersecurity firm Mandiant told CNN. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un inspects an artillery firing drill of the Korean People's Army on March 7, 2024. Barnhart, the Mandiant researcher, said any company that hires a North Korean IT worker runs the risk of being targeted by North Korean hackers because of the close relationship between the two. Heinz Insu Fenkl, an expert in North Korean comics, said that animation and comics have been prominent in North Korean society since the country’s founding in 1948.

honeyhousephotography.comI started dating men without childrenThe answer has been to date men without children, which I've found to be easier, as I only have time to date when my children are with their father. AdvertisementI prefer to keep dating simpleIn the five years since I've been single, I'd say a third of the guys I've been interested in have been single dads, and two-thirds have not. After deleting the dating apps a few years ago, these days I only date men I'm already friends with — even if they live in other countries. I've found that they tend to be more casual in terms of relationships than single dads who are usually searching for a life partner. I'd rather my dating life was simple.

Gittins surrounded the fireplace in this room with a large minotaur head, above which he painted portraits of Greek philosophers. Together they established the Wirral Arts and Culture Community Land Trust (WACCLT), which launched a crowdfunding campaign through the website Ron’s Place, applied for listed status and eventually bought the building last year. Now, the property has been granted “Grade II” listing by Britain’s Department for Culture, Media and Sport on the advice of national heritage body Historic England. Eileen TravellToday, we think of Renaissance portraiture as paintings on canvas or church walls, viewed openly. But an exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, “Hidden Faces: Covered Portraits of the Renaissance,” reveals how many works of art from the period were deliberately covered by painted panels or shutters, or contained additional compositions on their reverse side. “These multisided and covered portraits have never been the subject of an exhibition before,” said the show’s curator, Alison Manges Nogueira, in a video call with CNN. Analysts at the World Advertising Research Center forecast Snap's ad revenue will grow by 13.7% to $5.2 billion this year, up from a 0.1% increase in 2023. The biggest year-over-year growth is set to come from political and advocacy advertisers in the US, ahead of the November presidential election, WARC said. Beyond the political ad boost, Snap's expected return to double-digit revenue growth will be driven by the platform leaning on artificial intelligence for ad optimization, an improved content experience, and user growth, according to WARC. To be sure, with US political ad spend forecast to exceed $12 billion in 2024, according to Emarketer, Snap will be a drop in the ocean for most political advertisers. Here's what experts have to say about the safety and sustainability of the carnivore diet. The diet, similar in style to the Atkins and keto diets, goes by many names: carnivore diet, lion diet, high-fat diet and animal-based diet. Beef, butter, bacon and eggs — that's what some influencers swear by for the " carnivore diet ." Weight loss is one of the huge benefits that people who follow the carnivore diet claim they've experienced since adding more animal-based products to their diet. "You can think [that] if you're eating that kind of meal, you're helping bring down another tree on the other side," he adds.

When Richard Serra died yesterday, I flashed back nearly 30 years to a morning at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, looking with him and with his wife, the German-born art historian Clara Weyergraf, at Jackson Pollock’s splash and drip painting from 1950, “Autumn Rhythm.”We had decided to meet as soon as the museum opened, when the gallery, at the far end of the Met, would still be empty. Taking in the painting, Serra had the air of a caged lion, pacing back and forth, moving away, to see it whole, then back in to inspect some detail. “We evaluate artists by how much they are able to rid themselves of convention, to change history,” he said. For him, art was all or nothing. Of course he wasn’t alone in his thinking among American artists of his generation, the offspring of postwar American power and arrogance, of titans like Pollock.
