MONACO, May 27 (Reuters) - Ferrari's Charles Leclerc was handed a three-place grid drop for his home Monaco Grand Prix for impeding McLaren's Lando Norris in qualifying on Saturday, meaning he will start sixth instead of third. The penalty means also that Alpine's Esteban Ocon moves up to third and Ferrari's Carlos Sainz will start fourth. "Norris was on a fast lap and caught Leclerc in the middle of the tunnel and was clearly impeded," stewards said in a statement. "Both drivers agreed that there was little that Leclerc could have safely done in the tunnel to avoid impeding Norris, given the difficulty in vision" they added. The stewards said, however, that Ferrari had not warned Leclerc about Norris' approach until the Briton was already directly behind.
Verstappen takes first Monaco pole as Perez crashes

Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, who had been hoping for his third home pole in a row, had to settle for third while Verstappen's team mate and closest title rival Sergio Perez crashed and will start last. "I think that is one of the best laps he’s ever driven in qualifying," said Horner of his champion's 23rd career pole. Last year's winner Perez, 14 points behind Verstappen after five races, crashed at the Sainte Devote first corner in the opening session. The Mexican crashed in the final phase of qualifying last year but started third, and ahead of Verstappen. Aston Martin's Lance Stroll was only 14th on the grid and behind the Williams of Alex Albon in 13th.
Monaco Grand Prix fans who are from the principality have become accustomed to watching one of their own, Charles Leclerc of Ferrari, who was born in Monaco, compete in the race. At this year’s event, there will be two locals, as Arthur Leclerc, Charles’s younger brother, races there in Formula 2 on Saturday. “I have really early memories in Monaco when I was looking at Formula 1, and my only dream was to be in their place and to drive in Formula 1 in Monaco. I’m not driving in Formula 1, I’m driving in Formula 2, but it’s a dream coming true. It’s exciting.”Arthur, 22, is the younger brother of Charles, 25, who drives for Ferrari and was the runner-up for the 2022 drivers’ championship.
Leclerc says Ferrari 'struggling like crazy" with their car

Sainz finished fifth and Leclerc seventh in Miami as Max Verstappen led Sergio Perez to Red Bull's fifth win in five races and fourth one-two. "(It's a) very similar picture to the beginning of the year, we are competitive in qualifying (but) once we come to race day we are struggling like crazy," said Leclerc, who had been on pole position at the previous race in Azerbaijan. He had finished second in the sprint in Baku, raising hopes that Ferrari had made a step forward, and a lonely third in the Sunday race. Leclerc crashed in both practice and qualifying, when he looked competitive, at the same corner in Miami and said he had struggled with the car bottoming at speed and also affected by the wind. Leclerc was Verstappen's closest rival last season, winning two of the first three races before the challenge petered out in strategy errors, unreliability and driver mistakes.
CNN —Max Verstappen produced a scintillating performance on the track to win his second consecutive Miami Grand Prix on Sunday as the 25-year-old shrugged off boos from some people in the crowd. The Red Bull driver fought his way back from ninth on the grid to win his third race of the season, extending his lead at the top of the drivers championship to 14 points. “I think if I will be driving in the back nobody will be even doing anything in terms of reaction,” Verstappen told reporters after the race. So a well-deserved win for him,” Perez, who had started in pole position but finished second, told reporters. Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso, 41, finished in a distant third to achieve his fourth podium finish of the season but Red Bull was once again too good.

Mandatory Credit: John David Mercer-USA TODAY SportsMIAMI, May 6 (Reuters) - Fernando Alonso will start the Miami Grand Prix on the front row alongside pole sitter Sergio Perez, providing Aston Martin the chance for a win, believes team principal Mike Krack. The Red Bulls of Verstappen and Perez have been in a league of their own this season winning every grand prix, with three of the four races one-two finishes. If you start from the first row your aim has to be to win the race. Verstappen, last year's winner in Miami, will start ninth but Alonso guessed that he will see him on his exhaust by lap 25.
Despite more competitive sessions, fans were left disappointed with the lack of overtaking in last week’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix. What happened last yearIn last year’s inaugural Miami Grand Prix, Ferrari locked out the front row in qualifying with Charles Leclerc taking pole position and teammate Carlos Sainz starting P2. Max Verstappen is the only previous winner of the Miami Grand Prix. Only a chaotic Australian Grand Prix, in which Pérez began from the pit lane after crashing in qualifying, has prevented a perfect start for Red Bull. Leclerc angry with himself as a repeat offender

"I think what's unacceptable is doing twice the same mistake in the same corner," said Leclerc, who will start seventh despite the error. "You can always find excuses in those situations -- the wind was really strong, it was really tricky, the setup of the car was really tricky also," added the Monegasque, who started last weekend's Azerbaijan Grand Prix on pole. Leclerc, on pole in Miami last year, hoped for a clean race on Sunday to move back up the grid. Asked if he was putting too much pressure on himself in the final phase of qualifying, Leclerc hesitated. Leclerc said the Aston Martin, with Fernando Alonso alongside Red Bull's pole-sitter Sergio Perez on the front row, looked strong on race pace.
MIAMI, May 6 (Reuters) - Red Bull's Formula One championship leader Max Verstappen topped the timing sheets in the final practice session for the Miami Grand Prix ahead of Charles Leclerc as Ferrari enjoyed another lively session in the Florida heat on Saturday. Verstappen, winner of last year's inaugural Miami Grand Prix, went fastest early in the one-hour session and remained there clocking a time of one minute, 27.535 seconds on the 3.36 mile (5.41km) temporary street circuit around Hard Rock Stadium, the home of the NFL's Miami Dolphins. Carlos Sainz was fourth fastest in the other Ferrari followed by the Alpines of Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly. Sainz and Leclerc have been quick all weekend offering hope Ferrari might challenge Red Bull for pole later on Saturday. Leclerc was third fastest in both of Friday's practice sessions while team mate Sainz was second in practice two.

Red Bull's double world champion Max Verstappen had spent much of the hot and steamy practice at the top of the charts but ended the session fourth fastest behind the two Mercedes and Ferrari's Charles Leclerc. Ferrari's Carlos Sainz was fifth fastest followed by Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Aston Martins of Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll. Hamilton was just 0.212 seconds back while Verstappen, the winner in the inaugural Miami Grand Prix, was nearly a half-second off the pace. Lots of sporting buzz in Miami but can F1 deliver?

Once again in a league of their own, Red Bull have won every grand prix this season, with three of the four races one-two finishes. While Miami can deliver plenty of Monaco like pizzazz, the action on the track could also be similar to Monte Carlo with precious little overtaking. Double world champion Max Verstappen (93) leads Red Bull team mate Sergio Perez (87) in the drivers standings and a resurgent Alonso a distant third on 60 points. Hamilton's team mate George Russell had a tongue-and-cheek solution, forget about Red Bull and dive into the battle for third place. The French château with more than 100 fighter jets

CNN —The sleek, dark-gray lines of a F-16 Fighting Falcon jet, flanked by two other veterans of the Cold War skies, a French Dassault Mirage IV and a F-104 Starfighter, is not what you would usually expect to come across when walking into the courtyard of a 700-year-old French château. The majority of them were acquired as scrap,” says Christophe Pont, Michel’s son and current owner and manager of the château. Courtesy Miquel RosIn the mid-1980s, Pont, who was ex-military, made inquiries with the French Air Force about the possibility of getting one of their decommissioned Mirage III fighter jets to exhibit at the château. The request was granted and six months later what would become the kernel of the world’s largest private fighter aircraft collection was on its way to Savigny-lès-Beaune. Red Bull are also streets ahead of the rest in a private Formula One battle, with their drivers on two grand prix wins apiece after four of 23 rounds and no sign of anyone else getting close. The rest are otherwise fighting for scraps from the Red Bull table, hoping upgrades and the pace of development will eventually close the gap. Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, who was third on Sunday after starting on pole position, finished 19 seconds behind second-placed Verstappen. The Dutch driver is secure in his top status within Red Bull, who brought in Perez to back him up, and also has a string of favourite circuits still to come. Verstappen won three of the four last year with Perez triumphant on the streets of Monte Carlo.

Charles Leclerc has done the first part: After turning in the fastest lap in qualifying, he will start the Azerbaijan Grand Prix from pole position on Sunday. Now he has to do the part that has proved problematic for him this season: Finish the race. In three starts this year, Leclerc’s Ferrari has been running at the end only once. Qualifying ahead of them was heartening. How to WatchTime: The Azerbaijan Grand Prix on Sunday starts at 7 a.m. Eastern, which is 3 p.m. local time on the Baku City Circuit.

Verstappen says he can be pleased with second on a learning day

April 30 (Reuters) - Double Formula One world champion Max Verstappen found the silver lining in finishing second to Red Bull team mate Sergio Perez in Azerbaijan on Sunday. The team's third one-two finish in four races this season left Verstappen six points clear of the Mexican in a two-horse title battle. Perez, yet to pit and able to do so without losing position, made the most of his good fortune. Verstappen said he had been experimenting all race with steering wheel settings, looking for a better balance in the car. "So I think all in all, I can be quite pleased with second," added last year's race winner.
Lonely third was best Ferrari could do, says Leclerc

Leclerc started from pole position, and had finished second in the Saturday sprint from the same grid slot, but was unable to stay ahead for more than three laps. "(The) strategy was really good, everything was really good but we just don't have enough pace in the car today to fight with the Red Bulls. It was a good effort to stay in front of Fernando (Alonso) but at the end it's like this. Leclerc had arrived in Baku with a meagre six points from the first three races, thanks to two retirements, but he left with a total tally of 28. Ferrari have upgrades in the pipeline, planned for their home race at Imola in May, but Leclerc said he was expecting small steps rather than miracles.
Verstappen fumes at Russell after sprint clash

April 29 (Reuters) - Max Verstappen swore angrily at Mercedes rival George Russell after a first lap clash in Saturday's Baku sprint race ripped a hole in the Formula One champion's Red Bull. Verstappen and Russell exchanged words after the race, television microphones picking up Verstappen hinting at future revenge and calling Russell a 'dickhead' as the Briton walked away. "I respect all the drivers a lot and its a bit of commonsense as well what you do on the first lap," Verstappen told Sky Sports. "I don't think anything would have been any different had the positions been reversed." Verstappen starts from the front row in Sunday's main grand prix, alongside Ferrari's pole-sitter Charles Leclerc, with Russell lining up 11th.
I said cat, not cut; Leclerc clarifies radio confusion

Asked whether there had been any recurrence of what had sounded like an engine cutout, Leclerc told reporters: "Absolutely not. "There was a cat in the middle of the road and the safety car had to stop, but I think I was probably the only one who saw that. "In the exit of Turn One there was a cat and the safety car braked." Mexican Sergio Perez, the winner for Red Bull who was following Leclerc at the time, said he had not been aware of the cat. Viewers of the Canadian Grand Prix are also used to seeing groundhogs making a dash for safety at Montreal's island Circuit Gilles Villeneuve.
Behind them, Perez’s teammate Max Verstappen came to blows with Mercedes’ George Russell in the first three corners of the race as Russell overtook Verstappen before the Red Bull’s pace told later on and the Dutchman reclaimed his podium spot. “No, it’s not clarified,” Verstappen said afterwards, according to F1, when asked about his talk with Russell. Cameras captured Max Verstappen and George Russell's heated exchange. I’m not just going to wave him by because he’s Max Verstappen in a Red Bull. Once racing resumed on the sixth lap, Perez enabled his DRS and cruised past Leclerc in a further display of just how much extra pace the Red Bull carries.

April 28 (Reuters) - Red Bull's Formula One leader Max Verstappen put in the fastest time right at the chequered flag on Friday in a chaotic sole practice for the new format Azerbaijan Grand Prix sprint weekend. The double world champion, last year's winner in Baku, lapped the fast street circuit with a best time of one minute 42.315 seconds with his final effort on the soft tyres. Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, who has never won in Baku but will be chasing his third successive pole in Azerbaijan in later qualifying for Sunday's grand prix, was second on the timesheets. The Monegasque ended up 0.037 seconds slower, after going top in the dying seconds, with Red Bull's Sergio Perez third and Ferrari's Carlos Sainz fourth. Perez has the best record of any driver on the starting grid in Baku with a victory in 2021, second last year and two third places.

April 27 (Reuters) - Ferrari's Charles Leclerc denied on Thursday he was talking to rivals Mercedes after a nightmare start to the Formula One season, but his 'not yet' comment was unlikely to dampen speculation. Leclerc has scored only six points from three races so far, retiring twice. Not for the moment," the Monegasque told reporters in Baku when asked about media speculation in Italy that his discussions with former champions Mercedes were an open secret. "For now, I am fully focused on the project I am in today, which is Ferrari and I fully trust and am confident for the future. Asked if Mercedes boss Toto Wolff had called him, Leclerc replied: "No.
