McConnell Says Israel Doesn't Need Oversight Like Ukraine

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.) was asked on CBS News on Sunday morning whether the U.S. needed to impose limits on Israel's use of U.S. weaponry in Gaza, which some critics of Israel's prosecution of the war have said are necessary to prevent civilian casualties. "Israel is our strongest ally in the world," he said. "We trust them, and we have a very tight relationship with them both on the intelligence side and the military side. So I don't think the kind of oversight we're talking about for Ukraine, for example, would be necessary for Israel."

Another revelation from House Republican investigators further undermines the president’s longtime claims that he was never involved in his relatives’ various schemes to trade on his name. The documents give the first full look at Bankman-Fried and his allies' contributions to so-called "dark money" organizations. While Bankman-Fried quietly funded more conservative dark money groups behind the scenes, he publicly cultivated a profile that was clearly aligned with the Democratic Party. Prosecutors on Monday filed into evidence a list of organizations that received money from Bankman-Fried and those close to him. The documents show that Bankman-Fried was clearly the lead "dark money" donor among the listed former FTX executives and the company itself. The list that prosecutors made public this week shows Bankman-Fried's "dark money" donations were closer to $47 million during the 2022 cycle alone.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) — Republican voter Mark Cook stuck with his party in Kentucky's last election for governor. Once again, Warren County, which includes the leafy, fast-growing college town of Bowling Green, looms as a potential swing area. An “American hero,” is how Republican colleagues describe Scalise after the 2017 shooting and on Wednesday, a narrow majority of them nominated him as their next House speaker following the unprecedented ouster of the former speaker, Rep. Kevin McCarthy. McCarthy rose to become Majority Leader, and Scalise the Majority Whip. One early morning three years later, Scalise and other Republican lawmakers gathered at a grassy park in the suburbs outside of Washington to practice for the upcoming congressional baseball game. When McCarthy seized the gavel in January once Republicans regained the majority, Scalise won the No. Late Wednesday, the speaker's office became a revolving door as holdout Republican lawmakers met with Scalise bringing their concerns, complaints and demands.

Republican Attorney General Daniel Cameron tried pushing national politics to the forefront of the governor's race in GOP-trending Kentucky, while Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear played up the state's record-setting economic growth under his leadership as the rivals squared off at a forum Thursday. But the challenger spent much of his time blasting away at Biden in hopes of eroding support for Beshear. The Republican-led legislature revamped the state’s tax code last year to gradually phase out individual income taxes while extending the state sales tax to more services. But the sharpest exchanges came as Cameron tried to nationalize the race.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Having won the nomination to be the next House speaker, Rep. Steve Scalise is heading straight into a familiar Republican problem — skeptical GOP colleagues are reluctant to give their support, denying him the majority vote needed to win the gavel. “We did not hear that.”In a floor vote, Scalise would need to amass votes from almost all Republicans to overcome the Democratic opposition in the House that is narrowly split 221-212. Many Republicans want to prevent the spectacle of a messy House floor fight like the grueling January brawl when McCarthy became speaker. One-quarter of Republicans say they approve of the decision by a small group of Republicans to remove McCarthy as speaker. “Long live Speaker Scalise,” Gaetz said after the vote.

One of the panel's expert witnesses, law professor Jonathan Turley, acknowledged that the evidence Republicans had gathered so far, however, doesn't prove their case. The House Republicans, Raskin said, were acting "like flying monkeys on a mission for the Wicked Witch of the West." The Democrats' witness was Michael J.
