US Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris listens to former US President and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump speak during a presidential debate at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on September 10, 2024. Solar and clean energy stocks rose Wednesday after Wall Street largely declared Vice President Kamala Harris the winner of the first and likely only debate before the November election. The Invesco Solar ETF (TAN) and the iShares Global Clean Energy ETF (ICLN) gained more than 3% and more than 2%, respectively, in morning trading. The benchmarks are down 28% and 11% this year as uncertainty over the outcome of the election has clouded the outlook for the clean energy industry. "We expect a near-term bounce towards Vice President Harris following the first debate with former President Trump, but the longer-term impact remains unclear," Raymond James analyst Ed Mills told clients in a note late Wednesday night.

Brazil and Argentina both lose World Cup qualifiers

CNN —Brazil and Argentina both suffered defeats in their qualifying matches ahead of the 2026 World Cup on Tuesday. For the Seleção, the 1-0 defeat against Paraguay was particularly concerning as it marked the team’s fourth defeat in the past five qualifiers. The result leaves the five-time World Cup winner fifth in the standings with the top six sides automatically earning a spot in the 2026 tournament, which will be jointly hosted by the US, Canada and Mexico. It was otherwise a lackluster showing from Brazil, which enjoyed 71% of possession but produced only three shots on target. Argentina has six wins from its eight World Cup qualifying games and sits two points ahead of Colombia, still unbeaten with four wins and four draws, in the standings.

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has long conjured images of war that Europe thought had been consigned to the history books. Several Ukrainian military units have shared videos of these drones in action in recent days. Ukraine’s 108th separate mountain assault battalion shared another video over the weekend, saying that its drone pilots had flown the “dragon drones” over Russian positions. Video purportedly shows a Ukrainian "dragon drone" shared on Telegram by Zelenskyy's chief adviser Andriy Yermak on Monday. They also include at least one instance of the fiery drones being used in Russia’s border Kursk region, which Ukrainian troops invaded last month, he said.

But a bipartisan group of attorneys general on Tuesday demanded that Congress require Surgeon General warning labels on social media apps to help curtail addiction and a mental health crisis among young adults. Teens spend nearly five hours a day on social media apps, according to a Gallup poll. “Everyone needs to know the risk associated with these social media platforms,” New York Attorney General Letitia James said in a statement. Appending a warning to social media apps requires Congressional approval. Congress has so far ignored Murthy’s plea to introduce a bill requiring warning labels.

CNN —British actress Gemma Arterton has revealed that a director once tried to put pressure on her to film a sex scene, despite the fact that it wasn’t included in the script. In an interview with British publication the Radio Times, released Tuesday, Arterton said that, whilst on set, the director - who hasn’t been named - instructed her and her co-star to film a sex scene on a bed. “I said, ‘No, this scene was written for us to be off screen, so you just hear the noises,’” Arterton told the Radio Times. Had she been younger at the time, Arterton suggested that she might have been more concerned about being fired for refusing to film it. Arterton rose to fame following her role in the 2007 British comedy “St Trinian’s,” before acting in the 2008 James Bond film “Quantum of Solace” as MI6 agent Strawberry Fields.

Brad Wenstrup of Ohio, chairman of the subcommittee, told Cuomo at the outset of the hearing. The former governor has defended his handling of the pandemic, saying that the state followed federal guidelines. New York State Attorney General Letitia James issued a report in 2021 finding that the New York State Department of Health undercounted Covid-19 deaths among nursing home residents by approximately 50%. Now a father, Jones continued to work steadily through the 1980s. (He won a second Emmy that night for his supporting turn in the TV movie “Heat Wave,” about the 1965 Watts race riots.) Over the ensuing three decades, Jones continued to work continuously — even after he was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in 1995. That he never won an Oscar for a specific movie role, denying him the coveted EGOT, is a lingering symbol of just how much he was underappreciated over a prolific and profound career. MarineMax is a smart pick for investors looking for beneficiaries of lower interest rates, according to Citi. Analyst James Hardiman upgraded shares of the boat dealer to buy from neutral and upped his price target by $4, or 10%, to $44. Key to Hardiman's upgrade is the idea that the stock can get a boost when the Federal Reserve cuts interest rates. After holding interest rates steady at 5.25% to 5.50% for more than a year, the long-awaited first cut may come as soon as next week. Shares briefly popped more than 7% in early Monday trading, a reprieve after a tough 2024, when MarineMax shares have tumbled more than 21%.

But, Mann said, employers have specifics they're seeking on a résumé — often what's outlined in the job description. For people applying for roles with quantifiable results — like sales or marketing — it can be wise to then include a section on career accomplishments. U.S. passenger airlines have added nearly 194,000 jobs since 2021 as companies went on a hiring spree after spending months in a pandemic slump, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation. It’s a departure from the previous years when airlines couldn’t hire employees fast enough. U.S. airlines are usually adding pilots constantly since they are required to retire at age 65 by federal law. Then, travel demand snapped back faster than expected, climbing in earnest in 2022 and leaving airlines without experienced employees like customer service agents. “We will be hiring for the foreseeable future at levels like that,” he said at the time.
