The city of Sderot, a mile from Gaza, was hit on Saturday by a brutal terrorist attack by Palestinian gunmen. An analysis of available footage shows an estimated 20 civilians were killed across multiple locations, though the toll could climb. Officials said that about a dozen soldiers, firefighters and police had also been killed. “We are still hunting down the last terrorist inside Israeli territory,” IDF spokesperson Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus told CNN. Jerusalem CNN —Israel Police arrested five people Wednesday on suspicion of spitting towards Christians or churches in the Old City of Jerusalem, they announced, following an uproar a day earlier over Orthodox Jews spitting at Christian pilgrims. Four of the suspects were arrested for incidents on Wednesday, and one for an incident earlier in the week, police said. One of the individuals was arrested on assault charges, and the other four were arrested on suspicion of unlawful disorderly conduct, Israel Police told CNN. One of the arrests is connected to the viral video from Monday of ultra-Orthodox Jews spitting on Christian pilgrims carrying a cross out of the Church of the Flagellation in the Old City, police said. The incident came hours after Palestinians wounded four Israeli soldiers in a roadside bombing in the West Bank, which has seen spiralling violence in recent months amid an almost decade-long deadlock in U.S.-sponsored peacemaking efforts. Security forces pursued the driver into the West Bank, shooting him near the Palestinian village of Nilin, Israeli police said. The West Bank is among areas where Palestinians seek statehood, a prospect ruled out by Israel's rightist government, which promotes Jewish settlement of the territory. Overnight, the Islamic Jihad faction said it set off a roadside bomb against Israeli soldiers in the West Bank city of Nablus.

Witnesses said a man was killed in the West Bank town of Tulkarm after Palestinian security forces arrived to free up roads to its refugee camp, which gunmen had blocked as a precaution against Israeli incursions. Talal Dweikat, spokesperson for the PA security services, said gunmen had opened fire at the forces, "prompting security forces to intervene, taking necessary measures to restore order".
